The FM-2 designation means this Wildcat was built by General Motors, probably after Grumman was busy building the Hellcat in numbers. IIRC they also farmed out production of the Avenger bomber to other manufacturers.
Here's a challenge for Mister Kermit - have all of your chums dress like WWII sailors and they run to the Wildcat and flip those wings back in, like, nine seconds. That's called Military Arial Ballet on Deck or something. Just a wild idea.
Those Pratt&Whitney radials have that awesome lope to them. They just sound bad ass. And gymover, I couldn't have said it better. And he gets to fly really cool stuff too.
This is an FM-2, not an F4F...So- this is a Wright R-1820 single-row 9-cylinder Cyclone, rather than the Pratt & Whitney R-1830 two-row 14 cylinder Twin Wasp of the F4F...you are hearing the music of a Wright, not a Pratt & Whitney :)
Kermit Weeks should be the leader of the entire world, he is so proper, the only one person that should be in charge of everything, why can't anyone else on the planet be such a good egg as he is?
I live over in Kissimmee, I have yet to visit this place, I really wana go when they fly these old birds. Is there any set schedule when they do it? Ive only ever seen air shows at Pensacola NAS when I lived there etc.
sorry for the delay I had no idea you had asked a question. There is no schedule really you just have to show up (buy a year pass) and see what they're flying that day..P-51..The Duck..The Storch...a WW1 plane you never know.
Holy crap @ 5:12... Kermit GREASED that landing! Fantastic.
That is one be-a-u-ti-ful bird.

P.S. I had a 1968 Super Bee that sounded like that when idling. That sucker was a beast.
