  • This video demonstrates how to blend a smooth color gradient using acrylic paints on canvas. First, a layer of titanium white acrylic paint is laid down with a wet blender brush. Next, light blue permanent and phthalocyanine blue are applied to equal halves of the canvas. The final step is continuing to blend and smooth the acrylic paints with dry wash brushes until they create a color gradient.

Thank you very much for your helpful videos. Why are you using titanium white as the background here? I would be very happy to receive an answer.

Very welcome & adding the white underlayer then blending your colors into that while everything is still wet makes blending much easier. This video explains it all in detail: ua-cam.com/video/DjSVF9EUDbs/v-deo.htmlsi=sh7biXEvxsWNGkca

Thank you very much for all your blending videos! Sometimes you use just water, sometimes retarder/slow dri or flow aid, what do you think is the best or easiest? And do you have any tips for blending on paper, not canvas?

Welcome! Yes, I switch it up sometimes but would say adding a white underlayer is the easiest way to blend. These 2 videos ( ua-cam.com/video/ineTL5iepKk/v-deo.html + ua-cam.com/video/DjSVF9EUDbs/v-deo.html ) explain that technique in detail. Blending acrylic paint on paper is going to be very difficult because paper is so absorptive. Canvas panels are a good alternative (cheap, thin, small) that me be worth looking into. I usually just use oils if I am stuck with paper and still need to get good blends ( ua-cam.com/video/jGuXc7KlWok/v-deo.html ).
