I thought Benjamin Britten was a shrub rose. After the hard freeze it grew like crazy. I thought it was the root stock growing

It definitely is marketed as that. I saw it listed I think on heirloom roses as being capable of short climbing or shrub depending on how it’s pruned. I have no idea. 🤣

Is it highly perfumed and do they tolerate tropical heat?

It smells very nice. As for tropical heat, I have no idea other than knowing they thrive well in humid New Jersey summers.
