  • In this video we breakdown the footwork needed for padel, starting with players that are new to racket sports and then we look at the differences between tennis and padel footwork.
    Good footwork is a crucial part of preparation and that all starts with the split step. Not doing a split step is probably the most common movement error for new players. This bounce on the toes initiates your explosive movement and helps you react to the oncoming ball.
    About the Coach
    "Almost every single lesson for new players usually involves the coach focusing on the correct footwork."
    Sandy focused his attention from tennis to padel in 2010, learning the game with several trips and courses in Spain. His education in Sports Biomechanics, combined with playing and coaching at an international level (both in tennis and now padel) puts him in a great position to share his insights in the sport, hopefully helping others learn in the process.

    Very clear, only the good information.
    I hope you're giving some lessons because your students are lucky to get someone that clear in an explanation.

    Love your videos, i would like a video about the smash. Not the technique but more how to think about it, where to aim in different situations (middle of court or fence or corner), when to go for the kill and why. That type of stuff would be great 👍🏻

    I've watched this video multiple times because i feel footwork is so important to the game. You don't emphasise this in the video, but you do show the following: In tennis you pivot towards the ball, where in padel you pivot towards the glass. That's really something i still need to work on.

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  3 роки тому

      I think the main difference from tennis is that you need smaller steps and you continue this right up to contact (which might mean after the glass)...

    Love the explanation about why experienced players makes it looks so much easier and the way you emphasizes the part of doing alot of small steps while learning vs. trying to mimic how the pros move.
    Since Ive never had coaching sessions in either tennis or badminton (Im at a low recreational level) the only times Ive heard about split step is in youtube-tutorials and I find that I can remember it when hitting the first 2-3 balls, but then I start forgetting about it leading to more clumsy and slow movement. Do you have any extra tips on how to really "drill" this into my mind?

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  4 роки тому +1

      Kimball glad you liked the video! Yes, the split-step is absolutely crucial and something tennis/badminton players with training doing subconsciously. A bit like a goalkeeper for a penalty, you need to consider each ball a reaction. The best way to train it is to constantly remind yourself and try your hardest not to copy your opponent (who probably is also not doing it!). Almost use the sound of your opponent contacting the ball as a starting gun for you to move into position...(hope that helps)

    Hi,
    Thanks for really good videos.
    I noticed that the ball bounces twice on the upper side of the cage at 5:00. Is this allowed or is the point lost?

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  4 роки тому +1

      Gustav Svan yes, on your side of the court it can bounce on multiple fences, multiple times.

      Oh, that’s news for me :)
      Hos about the lamp and the lamppost?

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  4 роки тому

      Gustav Svan If it hits the lamp or lamppost that’s point to the person who smashed (even if it bounces inside the court again).

    Hi Sandy, I played tennis many years ago and Last July I started in padel. I trained two times per week, and I'm progressing a lot. However, I need to improve my footwork because I'm still late for some balls and I end up being in a bad position. I was curious about the fitness and training you mentioned at the end of this video. It's already available. I've been following your work, and I learn a lot from your videos. Thanks for the content
