In order to do this, does bass cleff have to also have a chord…what if only treble cleff has a chord?

Why the chord number 6 in Schumman's Choral is not a C mayor?. Because this major Chord can not have a sixth and a fifth a the same time, while a ii in first invention the chord with the 7th is complete?

Hi Palad. Excellent question. In the Chorale, the A minor seventh chord (chord #6) is used as a predominant chord (a chord that precedes the dominant, or V). The chord is spelled A, C, E, and G. The note A is the root of the chord, and since C is the bass note (the third of the chord), the chord is in first inversion. When identifying triads and seventh chords in a piece of music, begin by arranging all the letter names so they are a third apart (A - C - E - G, in this case). The first note will be the root.

Hi Takuya. This chord is a dominant seventh chord in third inversion. The root of the chord is E (and the D in the bass is the seventh of the chord). Since seventh chords contain four notes, they can be written in four different positions: root position (with the root in the bass), first inversion (with the third in the bass), second inversion (with the fifth in the bass), and third inversion (with the seventh in the bass). The lowest sounding note in the chord is the "bass." In analysis with Roman numerals, "7" is used for root position, "6-5" for first inversion, "4-3" for second inversion, "4-2" for third inversion. So, here, since the seventh is in the bass and the chord is in third inversion, "4-2" is used to designate this relationship.

@@musictheorywithdr.schulz9224so in analysis the tensions are only shown in root position?
