Odd, CO created the car storage law with $500 penalty, yet car theft in CO has been the highest in any state in the country. No mention of going after the thieves.
The only firearm i ever lost was stolen from my vehicle. I had to leave it in the safe i had under my trucks seat to enter the post office. The thief or thieves used a wedge and wedged my truck door open and took my whole safe which was attached to my truck.

Can confirm. Had my car stolen and recovered in 24 hrs. Dad's on third theft of his truck. My car was broken into so many times I just stopped locking it.
Still, it might be a better idea to threaten to defund departments that show no interest in addressing thefts. Recovery rates are high enough that it's treated as no harm no foul instead of the dangerous felony it is.

Technically, he lives off-post, so Air Force will probably allow civilian law enforcement do their investigation. Doubt they will do their own investigation.

A lot of states already have Reserve Deputies and Reserve Police Officers and they both have full police powers! They are used for things exactly like in this story. In some places they come out and work the streets just like regular Police Officers!
Why is a backup cop allowed to kill a citizen and remain anonymous? If I was accused of stealing a pack of gum(or any number of horrific things), my name could be released publicly, before I was convicted of anything even if I was innocent and they wouldn't even be required to remove the article or print a retraction.
