Well, you hear about babies that require hand-rearing because they receive more coverage as human interest stories, and captive animals don't learn everything they would in captivity, this often includes how to properly care for their offspring.
I agree. I don't think mom was even given a chance to care for her baby. They just assumed that because the mom was hand raised and had a c-section that she wouldn't know what to do.
The gorilla suits look a lot more realistic. These one are too bright and contrast heavily with what an actual adult gorilla’s fur would look like. Then again, this is just a baby so I trust the knowledge of the experts more than my own.
I don't think they gave the mom a chance to raise it. They wanted to use the baby as a showcase for publicity reasons. If the mom raised it she wouldn't let them take her baby whenever they wanted. This is sickening.
If baby was born there why not just let it's real mother take care of it?? I don't understand that! And what's with the orange fleece or whatever that is?
There are many protected rehabilitation centres in Borneo and Sumatra. Alina could have been sent to one of those instead of cruelly being brought up by humans to be used as an exhibit. Does your zoo explain why orangutans habitat is being lost or campaign to stop this destruction? Does the zoo contribute its profits to supporting rehabilitation centres.?
Busch Gardens is actually involved in the species survival plan for bornean orangutans. Additionally, there's nothing inherently cruel about an animal being hand-raised if there is concern for their wellbeing.
@@luckycavy1397 : I agree with this, also the existing sanctuaries are already overwhelmed with young orangutans needing rehabilitation so they can return to the forest one day.
uhm...why isnt she with her mother...and being fed by a man..people think they are doing so good interfering with nature. she isnt bonding with mom...she is bonding with people.
@@cbbohn8107 : The reason there are so many orphans is that poachers kill the mothers to take the babies for the illegal wildlife trade OR the poverty stricken natives who live in the forest kill the mothers for bush meat. The numbers of tiny orphans left behind are growing as more and more of their rainforest home is destroyed.
The zoo is doing the same thing they do at the sanctuary when a baby is orphaned because their mother was shot for destroying date palms (i.e. cutting into profits) or rescued from the illegal pet trade. I'm sure they gave the mother time to accept the baby, but babies don't live long if the mother won't nurse them. Also, all the Indonesian sanctuary videos say that they are losing habitat to the palm oil plantations. To say that a species is better off dead than in a cage, indicates a lack of knowledge of biodiversity systems. I would suggest that we stop buying products containing palm oil and other things that harm the environment. Contact manufacturers and tell them that you will no longer be buying their products.
Zena Safira It is born in a zoo and will never live an independent life. Besides, where should that be? Their last habitats are being destroyed and they can't live somewhere else.
Omgosh thank you SO much for providing 24-hour care for that precious little girl!! And also for wearing the faux fur... that makes SUCH a big difference!!!! It warms my heart to see that she is being raised properly, and now the chances of her raising her own young from birth sre astronomically increased!! BRAVO TO YALL for being educated on how to raise an orangutan! :-)
Give that baby back to its mother. The mom is grieving and the baby is miserable. You are heartless to take that baby away from its mother. It needs its moms milk to grow up strong and healthy.
How do you know the mom is grieving and the baby is miserable? Did you take care of them? Did they write you a letter? You may think the zoo staff is heartless but you're nearly brainless.

Yeah well don’t get too carried away. You probably can’t really compare the primates you’ve seen in the past with this one because she’s NOT A MONKEY. She’s an orangutan. Guess what else. Just like human babies, primate (which refers to orangutans, gorillas, chimps, bonobos, monkeys, and the various other species under this umbrella) babies can have completely different personalities and behaviors. Like us these things are determined by things like genetics, environment, health, how experienced and/or skillful or loving the parents (usually mainly the mothers as few primate males do much parenting), etc etc.

Wild Orangutan Mothers never reject their babies.. I understand the c-section is an exception, but they should have returned this baby ASAP. I’ve noticed that more & more great ape mother’s babies, in captivity, r being taken to be “hand-raised” because they’ve been removed from their natural habitat. I understand that we must save these orangutans, but too, we must give them an environment as close to their natural environment as possible. The BEST situation would be to return them to a protective wild environment in Borneo, Sumatra. I’m torn about zoos as I understand that reputable zoos do contribute to the survival of a species, but there r too many “roadside” zoos &zoos that r only trying to make money & do not have the animal’s best interest at heart.
I agree. I'm torn about this situation as I watch/read everything I can about orangutans. Did this zoo really give the Mother Orangutan EVERY opportunity to raise her baby? As stated, "this is their first baby orangutan born at the facility." Maybe they don't know as much about orangutans as they want the public think.
These animals are so damn beautiful!! I wish I could hug one
ikr!
Me to... It's all I want to do .. they are so beautiful!
Why do all of the facilities seem to find a reason to take the babies?
Yea they gave her a c section on purpose . motherhood is natural

I think Alina is being used as an exhibit, and that she was taken from her mother.
Yep. More people who are interested in attending the zoo the more money $$$ to be made. So sad 😢.

Isn't it instinctive for the mother to care for her baby!? What that lady's saying is ridiculous and quite frankly, sounds made up!
N.D West you don't know that!
She is involved in the orangutan program but is probably not the person who made the decision to take her out of the exhibit and hand raise Alina.
I don’t understand if the captive animal give birth why do they take them away from there parents smfh it’s bad enough they captive
Where is the mother!? Baby Orang utan needs to bond with her mother up to 8 years to learn how to live independent, no excuses, where is the mother??
