Hello from Wadena! Thank you for the detailed instructions on starting from seeds! I'm new to try starting from seeds, so I appreciate the advice from a Saskatchewan gardener!
👋 Hello Wadena. I am very happy to help out anyone starting some new gardening venture. Thanks for watching!
Nice to see another Sask Gardener.
👋 Thanks for watching
I didn't realize that pelleted seed would yield poorer germination results the next year than unpelleted seed! That explains a few disappointments I've experienced over the years.
I planted onions from seed for the first time last year, Expressions and White Wing, both intermediate onions from William Dam. They did well, and are storing well in the basement so far. I planted the leftover seeds 2 weeks ago. Expressions had 100% germination rate. But White Wings yielded only 50% germination. This year I'll try Spanish Utah and Early Yellow Globe too. I never thought to sprinkle vermiculite over the top. Great tip!
Thanks for a great video!
Thank you
I’m glad it was helpful. My onions are starting to pop up today but so far 0% on the 2023 Candy onion. The 2024 Cartier and this year’s Spanish Medallion are looking good! Thanks for watching!
