Having been a Fan of Smith and Wesson revolvers for 50 years, finally found a Prestine 5906 and was suprised at the quality of the Build, Found a NOS grip and this thing looks New, a little heavy for EDC but a very nice shooter, was a Police trade In as it had Marked Magazines 15 RF Police only...enjoyed the Video and subed ....

From one vintage dude to another I enjoy this channel very much. It's always a pleasure to see metal frames and wooden stocks and while newer firearms may function very well they don't have the appeal that the older ones do. Kinda like us vintage guys.

How old does something have to be to be considered vintage

I carried a 6906 for several years as my duty weapon. The 3913 was my off duty weapon. I'm retired now but I have both still. I still carry the 3913 as my EDC (if I'm nor carrying my LCR)

Another great video on another model that I own a few examples of! I have a pair of 3913NL models. One of my favorite 9mms, especially from the 90s

That streamlined 3913 LS was the best looking of the 39 series .

I'm an old guy and I've had a S&W Model 39, nice gun, but I didn't need it. I traded it away, and I kick myself for that. So I was keeping my eyes open for another M39 when I walked into a shop and spotted a S&W Model 3913! I had not seen one since the mid 1990s! I paid too much money to get a very nice example of a lesser known example of the S&W Model 39 design. Shot it a couple times and realized that I really liked it! Now it is one of my favorite carry guns.

I hear you on the differences in $$$$ on old guns. I was given a Winchester 1897, Field. Built/made March 1910. It was an old friend's grandfather's, father's, then him, and told his family he wanted me to have it. I am now working on cleaning it and readying it for fire.

The 3rd gen S&W is the best DA/SA semi auto ever made that works for me for concealed carry. I wish they would bring them back. Slimmer than anything "modern" slide & frame width is an issue for me trying to carry IWB so the 1911 & High Power are really the only other slim frame options.

I agree, it is a great concealed carry gun.

I've got a 3913LS just because it is a unique and beautiful small piece. I typically prefer modern full size pistols with a hammer and rail, but this is a slick bit of kit. I agree the mag is a bit small, but it is a product of it's time. I pulled out the mag disconnect out which was NOT an intuitive process...why you'd need to remove the rear sight to remove a bit of the trigger group is beyond me, but it was a simple tweak. I paid 5.

    Loved the 3rd generation pistols.
If S&W could figure out a way lower the bore axis on these traditional DA pistols, they would sale like hotcakes.

Great stuff for old dudes like me. The 39 an 59 Smiths would have survived better had not the Glock polymer wave swept in to capture a new generation of point and pull shooters holding high capacity bullet hoses.

I have a 39-2 that I really like. I deleted the mag safety, and I think I'm going to mod the safety to decock only, rendering the lever to spring back to double action fire position when released.
Please advise on this idea if you would be so kind. 😊

On your 39-2 there will be some machine work involved but it can be done. I like the decocker-only setup personally since I see no practical reason for a loaded firearm with a disconnected DA trigger. If your 39-2 is in high condition I might suggest finding another pistol since those are beginning to show collector interest - especially nickel guns.

@BTORange Thanks for getting back! I have a nice little machine shop here at home. I'm always tinkering.
I think I can pull it off without changing anything but the lever by blocking the 'off' detent with a small cam tipped pin 'thingy-majig' that should force it to slip back smoothly. It might just take a small amount of drilling that could be restored to original with a filler pin with the 'on' detent. But whomever I leave it to would be dealing with that if they so desired.
I'm glad you agree about how silly that safety is, because all it seems to accomplish is the hazard of possibly forgetting that it's engaged, leaving you quite flaccid at go time! Lol.
      Great minds think alike.😊

Hard for me to call 3rd Gen Smiths old……Bought a 3913LS as my off duty gun in the early 90’s. Novak’s smoothed the action and installed night sights. I’ve always thought the 3rd gens to be great shooters.
