The You Tube Silver Award Trap (Be Careful!)

  • Be careful if you ever get an AWARD like this. It can be a TRAP. I almost didn’t even make this video because once I tell you the full story behind this award, you’ll see how it’s NOT something I should be proud of AT ALL.
So this is the Silver Play Button from You Tube, and it’s given to people when they hit 100 000 subscribers. It also has my name on it, but I didn’t really earn this award even though it looks that way.
This whole fiasco began when the pandemic started, I took my phone out in nature, filmed my interactions with wild animals, and made some videos.
I was just trying to spread a little joy during a difficult time. I thought it might help a small handful of people.
So it might be easy to say I’m proud of what I’ve done here -
it might look like I was the doer, 100%…
But if I tell myself that, I could grow a BIG - NASTY - EGO.
So let’s discuss the actual truth behind this award with a little game I like to play, called humility hygiene.
First of all lets credit MOTHER NATURE: All the wild animals did a great job of being friendly and entertaining. They were the true STARS of the videos, so shoutout to them.
Secondly, this wouldn’t have been possible if other people didn’t invent the Android phone I used, the INSHOT video editing software, the internet, and all the other tech. If all those tech people didn’t do their job well, I couldn’t have done my job.
It’s not like I could have filmed all this stuff on a potato.
But also, OTHER VIDEO CREATORS got people interested in nature videos long before I showed up, and I just rode their momentum. For example, Mark Rober made those amazing squirrel maze videos that brought more traffic to my squirrel videos, the popularity of my channel is actually just a side effect of his success, and an indirect part of his legacy.
But also, everyone who works for UA-cam is a part of this, right from the technicians who keep You Tube running, to the janitor, they all play a necessary part for a team that creates a forum to connect creators and audiences. And then they actually give us the awards? Talk about unsung heroes. Maybe we should give them an award, How About This Peanut?
And let’s not forget the haters who took the time to leave their comments, which actually boosted the performance of the videos. Also anyone who has ever subscribed, commented, and shared the videos - you all played a crucial role in building the momentum of this channel. I’d love to meet each and everyone of you some day, and maybe convince a wild animal to GIVE YOU A HUG…. Haters too!
And thanks to all those who helped sacrifice time, energy, and effort to help me grow up, and civilize me so I could participate in society in a meaningful way. LEFT ALONE from BIRTH, if I had even made it this far, the highest level of achievement for me would be a grunting caveman that eats bugs…and I don’t think anyone gives awards for that.
Also, to have the free time to create these videos, I needed the support of a society who grew the food I ate, made the clothes I wear, paved the roads, provided electricity and plumbing, and everything else. If I had to figure out all that stuff on my own,
ain’t nobody got time for squirrel videos!!!
    8. I also have to credit other people motivated the way I think. From St Francis of Assisi, to Paramahansa Yogananda they all inspired me to love nature, and make a sincere effort to cultivate gratitude & humility, and they inspired me to be a more loving person, which motivated me to make videos to bring smiles to people when they’re having a hard day.
Also, I don’t think I deserve credit for my video ideas, I think they came through me, not from me, I was just channeling ideas that already existed as a creative potential waiting to manifest.
Furthermore, there were some unseen forces that supported and sustained me this entire time, and let me think I was doing it on my own. Some mysterious force was beating my heart while I was asleep, digested my food for me, governed my immune system for me. All I know is that none of that necessary survival stuff was due to any skill of my own.
I could keep going, but at this point, I’m not even 1% of this success.
I don’t want to be proud of any talent or achievement - because pride comes before the fall, PRIDE is a TRAP that leads to excessive self-focus, ego, and entitlement. And none of those qualities look or feel good on ANYBODY…it’s like wearing really tight ugly clothes.
I’d rather turn pride into gratitude…EVERY TIME.
Because gratitude is the more honest way of looking at things,
Gratitude is always stylish and fashionable, it looks good on everyone.
It feels good too, gratitude is the path to happiness.
Maybe you’ll try to look at things this way in your own life,
Maybe you’ll use some humility hygiene to turn pride into gratitude.
And maybe it will make you a happier person… if so, don’t credit me…I’m not the doer.

My grandfather wore a buttondown shirt and green chinos every day, both as a machinist and long after he retired. He SOLVED that clothes problem. Similarly I wear a black tee every day because it works, it fits in everywhere except 5-star restaurants and funerals for heads of state (neither of which I seem to find myself). But I should think of adding gratitude to my wardrobe. Like an invisible but chic jacket.
I saw one of your animal shorts and was amazed. Within 24 hours I had read more about Yogacharya and Sri Yogananda, and within 48 hours I finished Autobiography of A Yogi. It's given me much to think about.
    So thank you.

Great point. 👍 As long as there is a sense of separate self, we can fall into subtle forms of pride, including being proud of our "humility". But when we renounce the idea of a separate self... how can their be a sense of pride or humility?

@@BrendanJFox degrees of humility, false humility, books were written and still can be written on these things, without even scratching the source.
giving an advise for example, it the advise being offered to truly help, or one thinks that he/she knows better... when a person truly has a humble outlook, here come the tests, people complementing which can be a crazy ego boost. lots of prospect saints failed those tests.
