Hi guys, been backpacking for years. I take canned chili, tamales, corned beef hash, and beef stew. The water is already in it, and a whole lot less than then $8 bag meals. You really end up packing less water and weight. You don't have to bring 2 cups of water to a boil and wait. Way less water in a can of chili and a lot more protein. If you run short on water, you can still eat. It's a big misconception taking canned food weighs more. Think about it, try it.

I’m going to respond assuming you are serious with this question, though I can’t actually tell. If you’re walking a 100+ mile section, it’s much easier to carry water for a couple of hours (or get water from camp if it’s available), then go carry the water in the food for 5+days. They don’t actually carry all of their cooking water all day.

Are you… also carrying in all of your water for the entire trip? If you are, boy oh boy, between the gallons of water, no wonder you don’t even notice a few cans of chili.

I wear the thinnest injinji liner with a pair of light weight darn tough socks & I love that combo!

Great content, you really really have a talent for taking the viewer on trail with you. Makes me want to quit my day job and hop on out there. Questions: what camera gear are you using? Are you doing all your own editing on trail? Where do I find a squeeze coupler like yours? what was your starting base weight? I'm intrigued that you aren't going ultra light. That gives me hope. Also, where do you find your trail information and updates on water, etc???

Arielle thank you so much for posting a MHW coupon to your story!! I've been using a 7lbs+ camping tent as a backpacking tent and to say it has been unpleasant is an understatement! I got a new tent so thank you x1000! (:

I too prefer the Sawyer Squeeze and Cnoc bag. The coupler is nice for backflushing if you don't carry a syringe.

I was between bringing my Sawyer mini (have not tried it yet) and my trusty Sawyer squeeze on my next backpacking trip and you’ve convinced me to stick with what I like! Haha.

Same same! Lol so many similarities in gear! I also have the same bear can and know that it takes some adjustments to make it fit... Would love to see your pack load with the can... Where there's a will there's a way! We make it work, it's just nice to see how someone else makes it work to see how I can look at it differently ☺️. Id like to think I've figured it all out by now but I know better! Love the content! Keep up the great work! As always, hike hard, stay safe, and love life! 🙏🌞✌️

Regarding your toe socks, I wonder if it would help to apply some kind of anti chaff ointment like Body Glide or Vaseline to the sock itself to keep it from rubbing dry against the toe box of your shoes + on your toes themselves. I did that when I was marathon training to help prevent further blisters where I had some gnarly ones. It worked and I wonder if it would also work to help preserve the sock fabric. Happy trails!

I’m new to the channel and have really enjoyed watching your thru hike of the PCT so far. I am new to backpacking and am wondering what your thoughts are on your pack now that you have put some miles on it 😁

  • @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling

We always see the nice side of hiking. How long did it take you to get you trail legs or were you fine due to the previous hikes? Has there ever bern a time do far on the Trail when someone has come to their physical limit for the day and you just have to stop? Loved the kit adjustment vlog. Good luck with the next section.

Haven't seen too many human nose-rings? This author's cows have them for weaning and control purposes. Why would a human wear such a thing? Did husband insist? No offense, just curious?
