You'd give everything to freeze this moment and live in it. Then he leans in, his lavender eyes shining, lips curled up in a genuine smile. He cups your face in his soft palm. "May I?" Too shocked to speak, you nod. And the next minute of your life is sure to be the most exhilarating. It's sweet and bitter, dusted with hints of warm sadness, like a fireplace on an icy winter night. Your hands are around his neck, your eyes an inch from his, and it's so beautiful you can't describe the feeling that cascades onto your tongue. He is everything you could ever want, and more. It's almost twelve. You pull away hastily, face flushing as you realize you got caught up in those delusions of romance. How could you let yourself get this carried away? You were never destined to fall for anyone richer than the local baker's boy. This is all a dream. He can't love you. You can't love him. But you do. Humiliation floods through your cheeks as you realize how little time you have left with him. "What's wrong, my dear?" he says gently, seeing your elation morph into fear, and your reddening face that tells him something's clearly wrong.
