My gosh so many judgemental critics. Who gives a sh*t what he looks like or if he's aged well. He's extremely talented and added alot to the music scene over the last 30 plus years. That's plenty good imo...thanks you mr. Tweedy
I love how he went with the classic mic setup for his guitar and bypassed the internal pick-up. It's so warm and natural sounding. Works great with his vocals.
Not as long as Jay Farrar still lives...after that I could name about 5 to 10 singer songwriters of much, much higher caliber. But saying Farrar should be enough.
Jay is a fine songwriter, as long as you like one of the two-three songs he can write...over, and over, and over again. I find that a little boring, however, and prefer to listen to writers/performers that have a broader set of musical wings. No comparison IMHO: Tweedy's ability to shapeshift is remarkable, and even his mediocre stuff outshines anything Farrar has even thought about writing.
Furthermore I think this Drop D version of the riff was born out of working around the task of tuning the whole guitar into open tuning, as is in the Wilco version.
Jeff Tweedy! My God! You are soooooooo ROCK AND ROLL in this performance. Something got into you that's not always present in your performances. More ROCK AND ROCK than usual. Thank you Good Sir!
He isn't that old however. Is he still smoking? I hope not. Some weight loss & off the smoke he'll be around singing and writing for us even longer which would be sweet
Not really. Of course, I would hope he could spell genius, which I guess qualifies if you are scoring. Makes me miss Uncle Tupelo, actually, where he had an editor in Farrar. Oh well, times change.
@@christopherorman5769 Editor? What on earth are you rambling about? Jeff has made dozens of brilliant albums from Wilco, solo, and Mavis Staples. Jay makes the same boring record for decades. “Editor”, lol. Jay knew that Jeff was eclipsing him in Tupelo, that’s where his bitterness and jealousy came from. Jay can’t even touch the “worst” Wilco album, for Pete’s sake.
Get integrity, stop trying to be funny, irony is old and lame, what are you doing with your life,(?) and go do something that adds to the world instead of taking away. J. and Jeff are awesome. And you?
Ha!! i thought J Mascis immediately too!! thats hilarious! Goddam!! i wish my hair grew that fast!! lucky bastard! saw him like a year ago!!! fast growing hair, can play guitar, write songs and sing! lucky long haired talented bastard!!!
Love this guy.....not the new appearance so much. Why do older guys take on this "Coyote look" ?? Not becoming at all. Just my opinion.......still love him/his music.
THis is my love computer but it's me Susan Andrew and i LOVE LOVE all your songs especaillly the old ones in fact I will see you in Ottawa and I can't wait xoxox

Top 5 songwriters for me; Young, Dylan, Waits, Cave & Tweedy. He’s THAT good.
That's a good 5!
Absofuckinglutely
I'd put Tweedy above Cave
He is that good
That's the very stage where Jay Bennett brought me onstage to play with Wilco, back in 1999.
Jeff Tweedy is a national treasure...., and to boot, an ILLINOIS treasure...!!! Lucky us!!!
He has a clean & classic sound. Anybody else like the simplicity?
This is music I can relate to - feel like I could actually learn.
Isra Sabir yeah it’s inspiring right? A lot of the greatest music is fairly straight forward. The lyric and melody always separate the best though.
Yep
He's one of the best working today :)
My top picks are: Being There, Summerteeth & Mermaid Avenue (Woody Guthrie(with Billy Bragg
Jeff Tweedy is one of the greatest singer songwriters of all time.
As a songwriter, I get so much inspiration from this guy. He's just so damned good. And cool.
Jeff is aging gracefully. I love gray hair, can't wait mine are more noticeable. We all get old! Listen to these incredibly beautiful songs.
Tweedy just turned 50 and he looks 60. He is no aging well. It would not hurt him to lose a few pounds.
well touring while also helping wife deal with cancer and raise two boys can do that to you I think.
We all get old if we're lucky

One of the greats of our time
Yep

Of all time.
You should go listen to Jay Farrar instead of wasting your time here.

That acoustic version of “I’m the Man Who Loves You” is crazy. Some pretty intricate guitar playing there. Way harder than it looks.
Drop D with a capo on 2nd fret?
....3rd fret
This is a different guitar part than the one when he plays with wilco -- still a really cool & intricate version
Furthermore I think this Drop D version of the riff was born out of working around the task of tuning the whole guitar into open tuning, as is in the Wilco version.
Laying down to this tonight ~ he's a painter not just a singer.
Jeff is such a wonderful, talented guy. This is a terrific performance, thanks for sharing NPR!
How does someone write so many great songs and not have a single hit record?
Jeff Tweedy! My God! You are soooooooo ROCK AND ROLL in this performance. Something got into you that's not always present in your performances. More ROCK AND ROCK than usual. Thank you Good Sir!
great share, thank you again NPR.
"I shoulda done more to stop the war - I'm sorry" For some reason this line rang in my ears. Beautiful guy!
Love this mans music
God he looks old. Dang. Means I’m old too. Love him though and he is such an honest writer.
He isn't that old however. Is he still smoking? I hope not. Some weight loss & off the smoke he'll be around singing and writing for us even longer which would be sweet
Awesome 👌
Wow. I always miss him when he comes to Maine.. Maybe next Summer.
made me feel old.
Jeff is a genius.
Not really. Of course, I would hope he could spell genius, which I guess qualifies if you are scoring. Makes me miss Uncle Tupelo, actually, where he had an editor in Farrar. Oh well, times change.
Sorry for my awful spelling. Due to circumstances I reckon I do better in swedish and french. °_°
Hell, at which point I'd be lost...:)
Mister Pumpkinhead.... your mom is a genius!!

Jeff Tweedy is in full swing of turning into Jerry Garcia
The dark "She's been had" changed to "we've been had"

Killer. just killer.
It's crazy when I realize no one actually cares that this is happening to me
Everything okay? Happy to be a listening ear if you need it.
Dandaman V this simple comment was the most heartwarming thing I’ve seen lately. Hope you’re both doing great.
How did Jeff age 10 years in 3 years? What kind of sorcery is this?
i'm sure that helping his wife through cancer was a major part of it.
Grief doth line the face.
Maybe the Trump effect.
Well! It just goes to show..............
Hobo Neil Young!!
rainierez I thought the same thing 🙂
Neil Young is hobo Neil Young.
TheAgeOfAnalog straight up
Sounds like tom petty "Won't back Down
Looking more and more homeless each year
I think he looks awesome. He cares more about fashion these days, one can tell.
I was thinking looking more and more comfortable in his own skin year after year.
