Gear talk : I ended up using two color films : Portra 160 and Ektachrome. All of the 4x5 was shot on Portra. Medium format was seesawing between that and E100. 35mm shots were a mix of Portra 160 (shot by Emma) and Ilford Delta 3200 (supplied by Brae).

That's just a classic case of some good times right there. Pleasure having both of you guys. Got some killer photos as well. Really glad we could make this happen. Until next time!
Next time I'm not booking an Airbnb 30 minutes away. Rookie mistake. I expect to see the portrait of you and Alicia blown up to three feet on your wall next time. Cheers, buddy.
Dude, that time when you messed up with your drink at the bar made me laugh so hard!!
Now this, this is what photography is all about. There isn't a bad photo in this video and plenty of good times
Thank you, Michael. I cut out the ruined 4x5 photo of Kirk under the Frisko Freeze sign. I'm not as transparent as you think!
I love to see you knocking doors like behind the scenes, more empathic with your work now, and great work!
It’s definitely a process but well worth it when it works out. I think a lot of people suspect my success rate is a lot higher. Definitely not the case. Haha thanks for watching!
Can’t say enough how enjoyable it was to watch good people enjoying good times. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for always watching, James!
The main thing this video portrays is just how good you are at actually taking photos. Some amazing shots in there man. Great that you guys got to connect too.
Thanks, Tom. Xennie Twinnies is our new nickname by the way. Hoping to find myself across the pond at some point.
This was definitely one of the best photography videos on youtube I have seen a long time. You and Brae both produce things that are engaging and interesting and a little more lowkey than some other youtubers. Keep up the work, and I hope to see more like this some day. Also, if you ever find yourself in the Twin Cities, MN reach out man. My brother and I could definitely show you around town.
Thanks for the kind words. Brae's videos inspire me for sure. So chill and so watchable with photos that keep getting better. That's Alec Soth territory up there. Might have to make a trip!
Brae on the BTS is a heck of flex, but we'll allow it... Love the shot of the Bonus Dad. Powerful message in that one for sure! ✨
The real flex is him calling me “sir” the whole time but I cut all of those out because I’m nice.
What a video, this is the stuff that really makes UA-cam shine. I didn't even think about what cameras you and Brae were using until you called it out. I have to say though that the portraits you shared were absolutely stunning. So much emotion portrayed in such "simple" photographs. Thank you for sharing this video just like you did, made an impact on me that's for sure.
Thank you, Stephen. I was hoping to get at least one portrait while there, so I am very happy with the ones I got for sure. UA-cam is good and bad for many things but this is definitely where it shines. I agree.
Love this! I’m catching up on your videos (and already follow Brae). Two of my favorite UA-camrs. Mad happy to see it “not about the algorithm”
I've just watched this video and I was blown away. Thanks for sharing your travels and philosophy with us, keep up the work !
Beautiful video, beautiful friendship, beautiful messige. Thank you for sharing !
My wife is from Stanwood WA. We live in France I have never been there. That kind of video is stirring me to go visit with my Nikon F3. Thank's!
Your comment is stirring me to go to France. Maybe one day!
Hey mate, I just watched this through for the second time. Phenomenal work. Your photography and video making is beautiful. Made me feel like I'm missing friends I never had. Please keep going, it's a real creative inspiration
It was such a pleasure watching you just enjoying photography and the time spent there, living the moment. Thank you, it kinda made my day:) Greetings from Poland!
This was like watching a cinematic, intimate family home video. Not a word was said for the first 15 minutes, but so much story was conveyed nonetheless.
This video revealed people having fun. With the world as it is, sometimes I wonder if that is even possible. Was glad the video showed that it is. There's still hope. Keep enjoying your life!
This is the best video you’ve ever posted, although I prefer Brae’s 😜
Glad you guys had a good time! Hope we can link up next time you’re out.
Beautiful video. :)
The Bonus Dad portraits are amazing.
I should have at least made sure everyone knew his name. Haha it was Bobby. Everyone commenting Bonus Dad. 😂 appreciate though, my guy 🖤
Just beautiful man, looks like you guys had a ton of fun out that way. Knew this vid would be great when it dropped
Not everyday you can just fly across the country and meet up with a "stranger" and have the best time. But because of this weird internet thing, it is possible. Happy you enjoyed it, Langston!
Great Story! Thank you for sharing.
UNBELIAVEBLE, AWESOME, FANTASIC. I absolutely love this video, man you always hit the mark, glad i found your channel, hope i'll meet you sooner or later.
Thanks for watching, Simone. Maybe our paths will cross at some point!
Photography is about memories, this video is about memories. This video absolutely is, essentially is, about photography.
Full circle. Glad you enjoyed it.
The portret of Bonus-dad is so good. One of your best!
It is taking me a bit to warm up to it but many people have enjoyed it. I think it will grow on me. Thanks for the kind words.
this video, especially your words at the end, really touched me! it made my day! thank you for your work. appreciate it
Happy to help. Glad you enjoyed it!
Really amazing video!!! Quick one for ya, does the 4x5 fit well into the bag? Currently looking up which Lowepro to get, the 350 or the 450!
Oh yeah. Plenty of room. I fit the 4x5, two lenses, 10 holders, a light meter, dark cloth, and loupe just fine.
This is the America i want to come and see...not the one that comes across the news...a bicycle, a camera and no real plan...maybe one day, before I'm too old and its too late...
The news is terrible. I stopped watching years ago and I’m much happier. Local news in St. Louis is even worse. Bike and no plan sounds glorious.
Great! Great! Great!
No words! Just wonderful pictures and a awesome story from a beautiful roadtrip!
Thank you, Alexander!
Great images and message! I spotted a few familiar places. Tumwater Canyon, Rheinhaus Leavenworth, Twin Pines DriveIn - Cle Alum and Point Ruston Tacoma. Looks like a great trip!
Rheinhaus pretzel and bratwurst slapped.
Great video Bryan . Looks like your getting very comfortable with that 4x5. KB
Extremely comfortable. But I felt like a lost puppy without my loupe. I could have stopped down but I’m not about that life. Haha
What a beautiful video. I'm not crying you're crying!
Thank you, Eddy!
Oh really Bryan, don't bother with the gear bit, this was soooo enjoyable. Good times and good photos thrown in. Plus you are acting on the world around you by engaging with the people you photograph, hence you do exist for real. Now I Have my absolute favourite shots: your fiancee on 11:50, a portrait which I feel crafted with tenderness (my perception, I know) and the one of Brae on 12:15, which I find gorgeous. For some reason I believe they are great because they do not belong to a pre set framework. Big thumbs up for this.
Thanks, Patrick. I’m happy you enjoyed it.
I really dig those portraits as well. The one of Brae was probably over exposed by five stops. Haha 4x5 doesn’t fail me.
Wonderful video. I like this format, just talking about gear and photography almost never conveys the full experience of a trip. On a side note the Pentax 67 gives the 4x5 run for its money!
It is so very close to 4x5. One of the main reasons I’m keeping it because it’s such a good companion to large format.
Brea is quite the tour guide of the Pacific Northwest. Glad you made it out to enjoy mountains, water, unique people and make new friends. You're welcome back in Gig Harbor anytime!
He took us to many amazing spots. Gig Harbor was beautiful.
Great fun video, great images, some of which, you would think you are back in the late 70’s early 80’s.
That trip looked fun.
70s and 80s are my type of vibe. Glad you enjoyed.
That shot at 9:14 is nothing short of stunning! Thanks for sharing your trip with us👍 looked like an absolute blast
Good ol Ektachrome. Even though it was underexposed it always has a look. Something that is more reminiscent of a memory to me. Glad you enjoyed!
This a great video!! Glad you didn’t talk about camera/ gear stuff. This really was just a beautiful video to watch- thanks for making it
Thank you for watching, Michael.
The film gods have blessed us today.
Haha the film gods blessed me as well.
Great video dude! Some amazing shots in there 🔥 p.s your girlfriend really is beautiful!
Thanks, sir. Yes, I agree. Lucky guy over here!
nice work... should have been on 8mm or 16 mm though ... missed an opportunity ... if no film then tape ... you made the right call on how the video was presented ... just letting the images and video speak for itself set a very good mode and ambience .. and told the story well ...
I wish! I don't even want to partake in motion picture film because my wallet would suffer greatly.
Looks like a damn good time. Lovely photos & cool to see you guys hanging out. Enjoyed this one👌
Thank you. Appreciate it!
Thank you for NOT making this about gear! Enjoyed this video soo much:)
Appreciate it. Truly!
the voicemail of the guy with the 63 galaxy made me tear up ngl
all of sunday looked like an amazing time, loved the portraits!
I was surprised by the voicemail. Super bummed we had left already. Maybe next time.
Great call on not watering down this video w/ technical info Bryan. I think that's one of your most lovely videos yet. Thank you for sharing!
Appreciate it, Pat! Nothing wrong with tech talk but yeah, it just felt unimportant compared to the other stuff.
Very nice. Bravo! 👍👏👏
This has to be my favorite video of yours. The mix of artistic shots and good hangs shots is just so good. Great call on not including the specs too cause I thought the way this video was edited was perfect.
Thanks, Tyler. I’m glad you enjoy it. I sat down to talk about the gear stuff and got tired of hearing myself in 0.2 seconds. Lmao
Yet another beautiful video, Bryan. Hats off and thank you!
Thank you, sir. Appreciate it!
Lovely Video. Could watch this for hours. Makes me want to hang with you guys and have a good time.
Thank you! Definitely want to plan a meetup of sorts in the future!
*Great storytelling 📷!*
Appreciate it!
It was so lovely to watch, really glad you didn't talk about gear! The video really did convey what you said at the end, well done!
Also super cool to see you all together and you took some very good shots too :)
Fun trip for sure. The beauty of the internet. Glad you enjoyed it, sir!
Great as always! Thx for sharing, incredible content!
Thank you for watching!
simply beautiful 🙌🏻
A wonderful video Bryan...really good work on the portraits!
Thanks, Steve!
Really amazing and inspiring portraits in this video. I love your photo at 17:20.
Thank you. One of my favorites as well!
Loved this video Bryan and really needed to hear your words at the end! Thanks for always making great content
Thanks for always watching, Will!
The Birks-Hunziker bromance episode is amazing.
We prefer Bunzkier or Hunzirks.
Wow! What a great tribute to your trip. Excellent choice on editing with no commentary.
It went through multiple variations so I am happy you enjoy. Thanks for watching! 🖤
La légende de Pamelarioss.Uno snowquen's est mon idole. C'est la personne que j'aspire à êtret, c'est ma lumière du jour
Fantastic!
You took me back to my youth; well concluded
A Big Thank You!
That is nice to hear. Thanks, Ken!
Lovely relaxing video - your partner is beautiful
I got extremely lucky. We met on the internet. A simple nod at 17:02.
That's beautiful both photos and journey!
Journey is just starting, hopefully!
such a beautiful capture of life. almost made me cry at 13 minutes! You love to see it. Great work you too!
Glad you enjoyed it, sir. Just let it out. No one is judging. 🥲
Well damn thanks for the motivation this is nuts I freaking love my state 😂
Get out and shoot!
Amazing video super inspiring thank you !
Thank you for watching!
This is what it's all about. Thanks for that Bryan.
Thanks for watching, dude!
wow dude! this video hit the feels and i couldnt agree more with your words at the end!
I was in my feels while editing. So I'm glad it showed in the video. Thanks for watching, Gunnar.
Lovely video. Much better without a lot of tech talk.
Thank you. Appreciate that!
beautiful photos, beautiful memories ❤️
Thanks, buddy. 🖤
What a crossover, 2 of my favorite film photographers hanging out and taking pictures🙌🏻
Thanks for watching, Rafael!
Looks like it was a lot of fun :) Great images too
Appreciate it, sir!
Super chill video. Great work 👏
Thank you 🖤
Seemed like a fun trip and looks like you guys captured some good memories! It’s nice to not take it too seriously sometimes. Also, pro tip for beer bongs: make them yourself with thicker diameter tubing and the beer flows faster.
I am a whiskey guy so I know nothing about beer bong physics but I’ll be sure to let Brae know 😂
@@BryanBirks had a friend in college beer bong a whiskey and coke. Do not recommend.
This is the best crossover episode we could have wished for.
I love the beautiful random images you took while traveling, they seem to come from a past that no longer exists, when the important things were real human interactions. They remind me of the images of my childness. The whole video made me feel very nostalgic (in a good way). Good job guys!
Random images courtesy of Emma! She is falling in love with film as we speak. I’m thankful she was there to capture those in between moments. The real moments. Glad you enjoyed!
Being a Washingtonian for four years of my life, making friends, and creating a life I never thought I could have. I love this video. This gave me such a nostalgic feeling. Thank you for making this video and sharing these photo's. I really miss living in Washington State and this hit home for me. Hopefully I can get out there again soon. Take care. 💚
Thanks for the kind words, Bo. It really is a great place. Reminded me of the Midwest but just right by mountains and water. Which is a plus!
What a fun ride to watch. My two favorite UA-camrs in the same frame. Awesome
Two favorites? You might need to watch more UA-cam. Jk! Thanks for watching, Gary!
@@BryanBirks I watch way too many UA-cam videos and, without question, I drop what I'm doing when you guys post....period. Brae goes to places I went as child...good memories. Thanks for posting.
The bromance is real! Good times🤘
I cut out all the kissing we did. That’s what I call a bromance.
Loved this
That Frisco Freeze photo is so good.
We were driving around and Brae said that there was a cool walk up, old time diner place. He even went as far as saying, "wouldn't it be crazy if there was a car in front?" I about shit my pants when there was one. Super nice guy. He had a couple of friends that had classics as well but sadly it was our last day.
Well this was bloody beautiful.
Thanks for the kind words, my man.
Hear, hear dude. Beautifully put.
Thanks for the support, Eric. As always.
GREAT! Pure project.
Thank you, Andre.
WoW
The thing that resonated most to me about this video was the incredible feeling of just being. No pressure to perform, no stress over gear, no over explanation of shots both taken or missed, just being. Such a great video.
Thank you, Kurt. Trying to take the feelings that I had while making these photos and putting it into future videos. No pressure. Just photos.
Bryan I hope you gave your Uber driver 5 Stars!!
I gave him two huge tips: don’t underexpose your Portra and always check your lens to make sure it’s closed before firing. 😎
@@BryanBirks good to see you took him under your wing 😂
This was beautiful. ❤️
Appreciate it ❤
Just good times. Cheers.
Cheers, Peter!
Wonderful, wonderful video. You guys had a great time, and it is a great story you've told. Very nice. But it did make me a little homesick for the state of Washington, and the good friends I left behind when I moved to Alaska.
Get back there, Ron! Brae has a blow up mattress you can have. Tell him Bryan sent you. Haha
My heart is full after watching this.
That’s nice to hear 🍻
@@BryanBirks You are great at what you do, Bryan. Keep it up. Wishes.
Such a lovely video. Great Photos, great music and great behind the scenes... Instant classic👏👏👏
Thank you, Pablo. Truly!
That was fun to watch.
Happy you enjoyed it. 🍻
Such a pure video
Such a pure comment.
Beautiful times !
🖤
Just outstanding.
Thanks for the kind words, Garen.
Brian i absolutely loved this video. Going on the journey with you, the process with your subjects, the vibe and the vlog style. The music was perfect and i'll never get over how amazing those 4x5 and Pentax shots look! thanks for this, it sounds like you're really found your style and your voice! Amazing!
Thank you, Phil. Really appreciate it. I've definitely come a long way and it just keeps progressing. Even though it's slow, it is worth the wait. Happy you're hear and watching.
Beautiful words my friend. Something I think most of us need to remember more often. Thank you for this Bryan.
Thanks for watching, Hunter. It’s a gentle balance for sure. I need reminders myself. This trip was a big one!
This is the real stuff. Great work. This is actually why people do photography, none of the other stuff matters. We want to record the good memories with good people.
That's all anyone wants. Thanks for watching, Elliot!
Are film cameras expensive? How do you guys develop them?
A lot of cameras are cheap. Film on the other hand is pretty pricey right now. I develop at home.
Beautiful video! Really enjoy your content! Makes me wanna go out and shoot.
That is all that I want. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely charming, and a joyful look at sharing your company of friends and the experience of life. Hats of to both of you, this was as you so eloquently said Bryan - about sharing the moments you get with friends.
I like to think I say some good things every once in a while but only when I have the time and patience to write it down first. Haha I am happy you enjoyed it and hope you can get some inspiration from it.
