    Very tidy job cant fault finsh product
    When im doing those lids i always leave the sub base low around it and make up the ground to suite much easier to build up than dig out ,l also putva sheet of polythene under the lid and under my sub base before putting lid back on again so never problem with stuff going down the channell when you finished the works on the new lid simply cut away poly thene .
    Not a critisism just a thought great job

    Do you remember years ago how much we were charging for benching manholes it was great money but you won't get it now and another thing alot of contractors don't use granular in their mixes but I still do when I occasionally have to do one. It's a great material to add to your mix. The porcelain is looking nice and now days I love laying it rather than sandstone. I had a he'll of alot of porcelain last year to lay. The sandstone nowdays is not as good as it used to be especially the project packs I tend to sort mine for the customer or get the supplier to do it for me if they have the time. Keep up the good work.👍

    All I was thinking is, rats. I had several run past me once. Chucked a load of rat killer down there and I kid you not, this dead rat was like a small cat, tucked itself into one of the unused channels. Probably a couple of weeks old, dead, that mixed with the general stench of a sewer, you can imagine. Brings back bad times lol

    Thanks for the tips! Do you ever find that the metal tray protrudes above the plastic frame? I picked up a few Clark recessed covers for my patio but the metal tray is slightly higher in some spots than the plastic frame. Should I lay the tray flush with the metal or the plastic? Or I could grind down the metal frame a bit so it's flush with the plastic.

    Evening Johnny boy, 2 questions. First question. when you have set the plastic frame in and ready to cut the slabs around it, if using 6mm spacers on the slabs do you keep the cuts 6mm off the frame?
    Second question. When cutting the slabs inside the cover, do you again keep the 6mm joint from the metal cover? Hope you understand the questions mate

    Looking good, what stopped you from putting the frame hard against the porcelain like you suggested you might do near the start? Was it because the frame would then be overhanging the manhole a little?

    It's not cement it's mortar or concrete cement is the powder used to make the mortar. If you used a gauging trowel it would give you a much better tighter finish to your branching than any sponge could ever do. Other wise it looks good.

    How do you deal with it when it's not flush with the ground? We have a riser on the manhole cover which sits at least a few inches proud. I've unscrewed it and I'm pulling like hell - it wobbles but it's not coming up!

    I want to widen my block paved drive way onto my lawn by about 1.5 metres but there are two plastic square manhole covers there. I checked and these covers' edges are just sitting on soil below the turf with the round inspection hole connected to a round plastic deep drain. If i wanted to replace these with recessed manhole covers capable of being driven over, how do I prepare below them please? In your video it is currently concrete that you dig out - what if it is compacted soil?

    • @GreentopLandscapes
      @GreentopLandscapes  4 роки тому

      Hi John you will need concrete below the trays and bedded in correctly to take the weight.

    • @jarfar95
      @jarfar95 4 роки тому

      So if I dig out soil to make a concrete bed around plastic deep drain that allows new manhole cover to seat into drain at correct height and edges of manhole secure in bed of concrete? How deep must the concrete be?

  • @zoehealey1213

    How come you remove the old metal circle cover? Can't you get a tray slightly bigger so you would lift it up in the same way if you needed access but then the metal cover would be still there underneath which you would then lift? I'm just thinking for smells it would be like double the protection? Maybe I'm missing something but sure there's probably a reason?

    Hi mate, quick question my garden is sloping and existing old cover is flush which is no good. When I fit new one what's best to build the higher point of the tray up could I just use plenty of concrete underneath at the front to get the correct fall. Hope it makes sense. Cheers

    Hi John, i have a question. I have an inspection manhole in my garden which when i open the lid, it is around 5ft or so down. Im planning to build a small bathroom there. Can i shove insulation blocks to fill the empty gap and protect any pipes, then purchase the inspection tray in your video with rubber frame and then tile the floor like you did so theres still access? Will that be ok? And will it stop any smell coming up?

    Great video, explaining the process, as are all your videos :) One question regarding your cuts around the corners of outer frame, where the cut porcelain is essentially a "L" shape. How do you produce a clean cut without marking the porcelain, ie as the circular saw continues to cut (the distance from the bottom of the saw along the circumference to the top of the tile) ....I hope that makes sense? Hi Adam mate here are just to many to mention and every one has there opinion, I think the thing is it will depend on the Porcelaine as there is good quality porcelain like the Italian and Spanish make then there is the the stuff from Poland India and Turkey etc, So really you want a full bodied Porcelain as it is not like honey combed inside, so basically depending on what quality Porcelain you are cutting will depend on the quality of the blade and how good the cus will be, thanks for watching and stay safe mate.
