Anthony Baldo reptiles have different pain receptors than humans so it’s concept of pain is not what you think. Some gators rip of others legs and they don’t even flinch or notice

I have no idea if this would work, and no idea if you’ll see this comment. But where I live there was an famous Eagle named Brian who was brought to our local wildlife recovery centre after he had been shot in the face, he was missing a good portion of his beak, after many years of trial and error and prototypes the recovery vets managed to create a custom prosthetic beak for Brian and that same technology has been applied to many birds after Brian. So basically I was wondering if it would be possibly to create some kind of custom prosthetic piece to cover and connect the missing part of the jaw, maybe it’s a crazy idea and maybe It wouldn’t even work, but I figured it was worth a shot at commenting
eagles and crocodilians have very different forces on their mouths/ beaks. an eagle rips with what is essentially a knife for a mouth, a crocodillian applies much much greater force, you would be hard pressed to mount a connection on an animal that is still growing that could withstand the forces of it biting down. also if such an idea would be implemented and not refit to account for growing often enough it could lead to grueling disformities

Maggie Kennedy fortunately for big All and other reptiles is that they have a different nerves system than we do, don't get me wrong they do feel pain but not in the same way we do, and yes I know this is an actual fact, look it up for yourself.
No, he isnt in pain, they can lose a leg and be fine since they get into many scuffles they tolerate pain better than us, I mean they still feel injury since it is a survival function, but it doesn't torture them as it would warmb blooded creatures. But the gator is somewhat confused and feels discomfort to why his jaw isnt working

I'm heartbroken for this animal. I'm just recovering from two jaw surgerys and it was hell I lost weight, couldn't eat even if I wanted to... having major flashbacks watching this! Hope they can help this little guy ❤

For all the people watching this for the first time: Big al is deemed as a possible save, and later shown to have an advancing infection. He was put down shortly after. So sad.
Oh...very sorry for the loss. I hope no gators ever experience a suffering like this.

Oh this just rips my heart out, 3 years ago my dogs got out, my German shepherd came on his own after 10 days and i found my 1 yr old cavachon in the euthanasia room at our local shelter on day 24, he was 20 mins from being put down, they thought he'd been hit by a car, in reality he'd been shot it went through his shoulder and out his elbow, i immediately had it amputated and he's thriving and so happy to be back with me.

Gators are SO tough... saw a lioness get her jaw ripped off and she was dead in just a couple days, yet this little dude is almost healed up! I wish I had the antibodies that allowed me to shrug off a potentially mortal injury. Their healing factor rivals that of dare I say Deadpool lol

Goddamnit, poor Big Al. As soon as I part of his upper jaw was missing too, i was pretty positive it was a buckshot wound... I don't get why someone would shot such a small gator. I don't have PayPal, but I'll see if I can set one up. Hopefully those lovely folks at Busche Wildlife Sanctuary can help him.
Tall Traveler They probably saw him buy there dogs or maybe kids and the thought of one of those kid/dogs disappearing was probably the reason they shot him
Because a gator that size will easily take a dog.
Maybe if your dog is the size of a small rabbit, otherwise, no it won't. @@helsfury
flint lock so keep your dog away from it then lol :) otherwise this logic could be used to kill anything that could hurt anything else due to negligence or refusing to keep your own pets safely indoors. If you’re letting your dog or your child by a crocodile or reptile without keeping safety first in mind and much training, then issue is the parenting, not the animal. It doesn’t matter if it could be a threat everything is a potential threat but that doesn’t mean you should go around killing it all you know? I believe it’s an individual‘s responsibility to take care of their children and their pets and if they’re unable to keep them away from wildlife they they need to keep them indoors. It’s our job to support the wildlife who are intruding onto personal property for we reasons caused, not force wildlife to accept how we live and hurt them if they enter our yard. I’m saying that valuing one animal’s life over many others (our pets over wildlife) can lead to making excuses like shooting this poor buddy for no reason at all, just because it COULD be predatory to your pets, where if sense and care had been taken and there was any love for animals they’d follow the advice and call animal control/rescue. It seems to me they just wanted to shoot it because they thought it was a nuisance, any true animal lover wouldn’t put their dogs in the way of danger or shoot an animal for acting in a natural way. I hope I come across respectful, I agree with your point completely I just wanted to add some elaboration as to why in theory killing other animals to protect your own animals is flawed. :) I think of that person was educated about their native wildlife they would’ve known what to do in any real moment of danger, but they chose to make an excuse to hurt an animal instead. Sadly it’s probably somebody who enjoys inflicting pain or someone young and foolish enough to think animal abuse isn’t a felony is many areas. I don’t think this was done in protection or fear, but in premeditation. :( I hope this was helpful to anyone who believes similar.
I am just now watching this but I live in South florida. so happy to see a fellow native who has a deep passion and love for animals. especially are local wild life. I hope big al got the help he needed and a forever home to live out his years with his condition.

I was only able to donate 5$ because I'm on disability, but I was a vet tech for 15 years in Florida , I know the struggle of wildlife rehabilitation, there are just so MANY animals you cross paths with. I don't know what "the army" is is it just subscribing? I really hope they help him, they seem to be very innovated and creative with treatment, not all wildlife sanctuary can provide the same level of care that the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary does. Don't get me wrong ALL wildlife sanctuaries do the best they can, but when they don't have tech's or vets that are comfortable treating wild animals. please do keep us updated.

I hope you see this, I'd highly recommend getting a jaw bit 3d printed, and then re attaching, this way it would remain some function of its jaw
But it wont fit as he grows sadly

I just came across this video, I sure hope they were able to help this little guy so that injury doesn’t bother him any more. It’s horrible that someone would just shoot him and leave him disfigured and in pain. So grateful to all those that care so much for these animals, they’re hero’s to me!
You should get a Damascus steel prosthetic that's like a radio antenna so you don't have to replace it it just extends with his growth but you should make it just a bit bigger than it should be for his size so it will be a decent size of a prosthetic for him once he gets bigger....
I've got about 140 pounds on that alligator but if I was shot in the jaw by a shotgun you know I'd be dead.
They fight for territory in the wild which can rip off limbs or jaws, so I'm not surprised it's fine after this kind of injury.

If you haven’t gotten one yet please rescue there are so many tortoises who get adopted that don’t keep their home because a lot of people don’t want it anymore sense they get big and they don’t realize that.
CandyAshes, seconded. Adopting is the way to go! Plus, like you said, some tortoises get very, very big. So Lego Heads, make sure you have the time, space, and money to take care of them.
A hermanns tortoise is a easy and nice tortoise to have they dont get that big

I saw a gator with the same problem the other day. They fight all the time and its not an uncommon injury.

That's one lucky Gator dude that he went into Kamp Kenens facility and then if he gets looked after by Kyle , like wow he'll be in Gator heaven dude like for sure. Imagine if he'd of wound up anywhere else probably been ignored or killed off. 👍

Why not just keep him in the pond he’s in once you fix him up!! I mean he seems to know his surroundings. As long as he doesn’t kill the turtle I think you should add a new member to the camp!! I would love to see monthly updates on big ale at the kamp!! I’ll def be donating I want this guy to make a recovery!! Does it have to be to the bush sanctuary or to your patrion

Daemon Ember I know she has kids but the gator is no more dangerous as slinky and it would be fenced in once it gets bigger.. but if it’s gonna eat the turtles that no good so can’t have it eating my favorite turtles 🐢
I believe if they keep him at their sanctuary they can target feed him and have more easy access to him for further medical attention if needed
Also the gator is known to be able to escape and at this point I don't think Kenan wants this lil gator to get away

would you let him live in your big pond when he recovers? just a thought haha because your pond seems like a relatively safe place to house him till he is bigger before moving him to a sanctuary of sorts. or you could just leave him at a sanctuary at the start.
Yeah but it's obviously not safe because he can wonder around again and end up in the same pond that he got shot in.
He mentioned it was going to be at Kyle's place or .... crocodilium(?) if you will.
And KENAN now has 2 kids under the age of 10 thay live with him full time! Gator no safe!
