- Growing Up Creepie is such a wonderfully weird and unique show about a girl who was raised by bugs and now wants to become apart of soceity, but it only lasted for a little time on the air, despite having a growing fan base. So on this special episode of my 'Wait... Remember?' series, I dig into what Growing Up Creepie was and even sit down with 2 of the creators of the show, Carin Greenberg and Anthony Gaud and get to really know what this show was all about.

Don't worry bro you're Wicked....... wickedly insane🤣🤣🤣
Hope that gave you the satisfaction you wanted . Also love your videos 😎❤️🔥
Would love to see you cover moville mysteries next, both moville and creepie were the series i never missed a episode off

"WAIT... Remember" is a wicked great series there are so many interesting cartoons that people barely talk about.
So true man. So true.
I love how tech-savy younger UA-camrs that are fans of animation, can reach out and collaborate with industry veterans. It’s a win-win: content creators of animation fan channels get to meet and interact with creators of the shows they love, and industry vets get more recognition and coverage online.
One that took me forever to find was "The Adventures of Sam." Remember this from my childhood in Australia.
I've come to consider the wait.. Remember? Series as a way for me to find hidden gems of my old childhood I either forgot or never knew
Everytime a new Jordan Fringe video comes out I audibly yell “Holy shit I do remember that show!“
Makes it really awkward when you check your phone at work.
Same. Lol
Agreed
Legit, I looked at the playlist for the Wait Remember series, and out of the full 68 video list, there were only 2 I didn't know in some capacity. That's impressive.
THIS SHOW. It meant so much to me when I was young. Im adopted and recently diagnosed as autistic. I always felt out of place and scared to be who I wanted to be. Creepie inspired me so much to the point that I sang the theme song at my third grade talent show 🥹 I still sing it to myself when I’m driving sometimes
Same here. I have autism and my home life wasn't great. This show brought me comfort on my bad days.
I too am autistic and I loved the show a lot as a child. When I was in elementary school I wanted to have my hair like her's but I sadly was only allowed to get two colours. I think I liked goth/emo/punk stuff so much as a child because I feld difrent and was seen that way by others so it gave me hope that I would belong with this group of cool people who also were non-conforming.
@@ellasorrow4stolas445 are things better for you nowadays?
@@KaylaTheKindOne Yes. I learn more about my autism and in a better environment
So are we all just autistic adults/teens who absolutely adore GUC? cool 😂
Jordan, the fact that you managed to get the creators to appear for this video makes you very... WICKED. Good video as usual.
I love how these Discovery Kids shows are getting more attention, it's often overshadowed by Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney Channel
Discovery Kids and its shows like Growing Up Creepie need and deserve more attention
Totally agree. I watched them all, even 4kidsTV and CW for Kids on the weekends.
Saaaaaame
I'm actually really into entomology now and I've a feeling this show is what started it, though it does kinda disturb me the mantis is the mom of all these bugs that mantids would probably hunt..
@@kiraoshiro6157 Don't worry - Caroleena had a strict policy of not eating friends or family.
it was there first? i saw it on nick
I'm always saddened by a lot of these videos ending with "(Network) reserves the rights and seems to have no plans for the future" and was pleasantly surprised that this time that isn't the case. I always liked this show and had no clue it was actually so well received. Thanks for unlocking yet another core memory, I hope Creepie can come back for a new generation to enjoy
Yeah, even if they can only rerun the original episodes. Kids these days need her! She taught me everything I needed to know when I was in school.
I would LOVE to see more of Creepie!!!! She meant the world to me as a kid - I'd never seen someone like her on TV before, and she made me want to dye my hair and be my own person without caring what people think!! She was a huge role model to me, and to this day I aim to be as cool and confident in myself as she was. I think I would cry if I saw her again - be it on TV, or a movie, or anything. She's an icon!!
I must have known, this show is very creepy.
As a another creapy admirer you said everything that i wanted to say thank you
I can’t describe how touching it was to see you cover this show. It is a hidden gem amongst the animation community. The show is one of my absolute favorites as an indie show and it inspired me to pursue my career as an animator to this day with a degree in animation. Creepie still lives on in our hearts to this day and I’m happy the creators are feeling the same way still. I am down for any revival of this franchise and will support it any way possible!
Congrats to you this was one of my favs
OMG SAME 😭😭😭
This show cured me of my fear of spiders funny enough and started my deep love for insect and spider biology
Some baby spiders wear raindrops as hats :D
I would say same, but I have a feeling our appreciation of spiders… differ in ways that I should probably not disclose here!
I’m still terrified of bugs. Cartoon ones are ok though.
@@solarmoth4628 yeah
Good on you friend
omg i used to LOVE Creepy!! as someone growing up in the Caribbean the concept of a goth kid was mindblowing! In hindsight it might have been the earliest exposure to alt styles and im so glad it happened, I'd love to see it come back and thrive, truly a unique and refreshing show!
A Caribbean goth would be the strongest person ever. Wearing all black in that hot sun…
As somebody with a crippling fear of bugs I always loved this show. I respect them I fear them tremendously but I acknowledge how cool and incredible they were and I always watched this show because learning about them still made me so happy. I loved alt things my whole life too but also bright colors so the whole aesthetic of the show was perfect.
I loved Growing Up Creepie as a kid. There was always a little segment at the end where Creepie would give some facts about a different bug and I liked it.
I grew up on the 90s Addams Family & Beetlejuice cartoons, Nightmare Before Christmas, & Invader Zim, so even though I was in my 20s, this cartoon really spoke to me. So sad it only lasted 1 season. I also liked the sharp pointy jagged art style of the late 90s-early 00s so much that I have almost zero tolerance for the modern soft circular style everyone uses today. Thank goodness Vivziepop, Papa Meat, & David Firth are still creating stuff for old-school Goths like me.
Forgot to include Aaah Real Monsters & Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy in that list. Never saw Lenore or Ruby Gloom.
Well not everyone is stuck in their edgy teenage phase
@@Reekskull Sounds like it's not a phase. Pretty sure some people just have different tastes and aren't all bland AF basic bitches.
@@LikaLaruku Ruby Gloom is awesome but not as wicked as Growing up Creepie
@@genera1013 I do enjoy horror but I have other interests outside of that why would I watch this video if i did not have found memories of this also a female dog would not be able to type
Creepie is the reason I became goth, rather than Tim Burton films!! It's funny because she doesn't mean to be but just happened to look like one. Especially the "Goth to have Friends" episode! This video was spot on!!
Heck yes! I actually passed the love for Creepie on to my niece. I showed it to her at around 6 or 7 and she latched on immediately. Even now that she's a touch older she'll still drop what she's doing and watch it. I actually found a dvd awhile back and needless to say after showing her it lives at her house now. Creepie's personality and aesthetic seemed to be a big part of the draw just like it was for me as a kid. Having a character that was alternative and different while also maintaining a positive attitude was very refreshing and rare for the time.
Never seen this show before, but I love shows with the "spooky" aesthetic, like Ruby Gloom. I'd love to see Creepie make a come-back!!
@@cubistwaves It used to air on our only channel
Her character design was certainly unique.
I wish they kept it. I loved the show, but that design was wicked.
@@triccele Wicked good or wicked bad?
goth female rizz
I LOVED Creepie growing up. Discovery Kids was one of those channels I didn’t have much chance to talk about with other kids. I’d love to see Creepie come back in some form!
I ADORED Creepie! My favorite thing about her is that she was kind, confident, and genuine, unlike most brooding goth girls. Creepie is so admirable.
Gwen from total drama despite her flaws in later seasons is also a good goth
I’ve never watched this show but seeing how excited the creators were and then them actually getting the rights for it made me very happy I hope they get to reboot it or something
Childhood memories 😊 I’m glad that the show is here on UA-cam to watch over and over again! Thank You Jordan!
Thanks for watching!
Dude not only are you on a roll with video topics lately, you're also telling me Growing Up Creepie may come back?!? Just like the Buzz on Maggie, Creepie was a huge part of my childhood! I was always kind of alternative compared to other people and I genuinely feel it was because of Creepie, I was obsessed with bugs and snakes and little creatures growing up, she just seemed so cool and did not care what people thought of her because she had a good support system. It was an amazing show, I really do cherish it and I can't believe it was only one season long, that's wild to me! It's awesome to know that the creators really seemed to enjoy it too :)
Growing Up Creepie is one of those shows that always finds its way fondly back into my mind. iconic, underappreciated, and tragically short-lived... as a little quasi-goth teen, this show meant a lot to me, alongside its spiritual sister show Ruby Gloom.
plus the educational angle is honestly great-bugs are cool and exciting! they have a lot of unique, fascinating traits and abilities, which also opens up so many storytelling possibilities. even today, a lot of shows continue to reinforce the idea that bugs are gross, scary, undesirable, or worthless-but they're living creatures, and it's really powerful to emphasize their positive traits while acknowledging that, yeah, it's okay and understandable to find them scary, but maybe if you understand them better, you can learn to be less scared.
i've always wanted to see a continuation of the series, so i'm very excited to hear they've got the rights back. i will definitely be keeping an ear out for news on this!
I loved this show and Time Warp Trio on Discovery Kids! Really appreciate you breaking the mold and interviewing the creators for an insider look at the show. Would love to see more from Creepie!
I was pretty similar to Creepie. I moved abroad therefore was a nonconformist, I was goth with my aesthetics when emo was a worldwide trend, I had a weirdly tense friendship with one of my classmates and there's this one girl who looked nothing like me but we pretty much were in sync. What a time to remember. Of course my parents aren't insects haha
YYYYEEEEEESSSS!!! FINALLY I'M NOT ALONE!!!! I loved this as a kid and NO ONE knew what it was and refuses to watch it when I offered
My daughter loved this show! She even dressed up as Creepie for Halloween. I was heartbroken when it only got one season. PLEASE bring it back
I would love to see more of Growing Up Creepie. Every so often I find myself just rewatching the show or quoting bug facts that I learned from it
Would love a growning up creepy reboot/revival
Insect biology is endlessly fasinating
I loved this show when I was younger! I’m so glad you covered it because it’s hard to find anyone talking about it! Thanks for covering something from my childhood!
Watching this show as a kid definitely influenced my affinity for creepy things- even into adulthood 😭💕
Dude this show was my entire personality for a solid while when I was younger. I also blame this show for never fully growing out of my goth phase. Never met anyone who also watched it though, so I appreciate the heavy nostalgia this video is making me feel
Keep us updated on any news about a Creepie update!!! This brought back great memories of learning in so many way thanks to this show. Also it is awesome that Carin and Anthony came on to talk!!
I hope she gets a reboot/revival/spin off
I'd watch the hell outta it.
This was my show when I was six years old. I even tried to walk and act like Creepie.
To this date I still remember the cheerleading episode and creepie and friends doing some slam poetry and horror light show, this was a great show with the important message that is OK to be you
Oh my god thank you for helping me a fundamental part of my childhood
I loved this show as a kid. I miss the spooky uniquely animated shows they had in the 2000’s they were all so cool
I loved this show. Swear to god, I randomly discovered this show and ever since watched it every single day.
Facts. Discovery kids and a lot of other lesser known channels had a lot of hidden gems
This show made me feel so seen as a kid who liked spiders. If there's a chance that it can come back i would love to see it comeback and thrive.
This show was so great when I was growing up as a kid. Creepy helped teach me growing up on staying true to myself. I would love to see the show come back in the future at some point.
As a child I really LOVED this show. Seeing this video brought back soo many memories💙
I loved this show. I used to think that Growing up Creepie and The Buzz on Maggie were in the same universe. I think I dreamed up a crossover where Creepie and Maggie were adopted sisters.
Nope, the two shows were unrelated but did come out around the same time.
My god, this show was so good! I would love to see a reboot or even a short series!
"Growing Up Creepie" was a favorite show of mine as a kid! I was never a fan of bugs, but this show showed me all kinds of facts and quirks of so many insects that I couldn't help but see them in a whole new light. I LOVED that show and I'm SO EXCITED for a possible comeback. It would be 'wicked'😁
Missed opportunity to talk about Creepy and her relationship with Tranacula Boy! All jokes aside, I loved this show growing up and thank you for talking about it! A reboot where they are aged up would be amazing!
Who’s that? 🤔
Right!!! I shipped that relationship so hard. It was my first ship
@@gracekim25 He was her love interest in the show who was also raised by bugs.
I would love to see this show return!~
I'd like it to keep the exact same art style and have voice actors that can do a good impression of the original voice actors if the original ones aren't available. No time skips or time jumps though - just continue where the series left off but have episodes to reference more modern things.
For example, one episode could be about how everyone is buying the latest phones while Creepie doesn't have a cell phone - she uses the old rotary phone in her home that works just fine. Another episode could be about how everyone is trying to be internet famous but Creepie becomes famous overnight (without trying) and hates the attention so much that she helps her enemies become famous.
There's a whole bunch of concepts that could work, but bugs come first. Think about bugs that haven't already been given a "bug bites" moment and then do what you did originally by making episodes around that.
I am also open to seeing a time skip series if Creepie is in a relationship with her girlfriend and telling their children all about how she survived middle school like the majestic cockroach. Yes, my headcanon is that Creepie is a lesbian. Creepie's parents could talk about how the female preying mantis eats the head of their male partner and she could say something like "Well, it's a good thing I don't have to do that."
I would love to have "Growing up Creepie" merch like a doll, hoodie, or pin!~ Think about making a spiderweb hoodie (black and silver) with Creepie on the sleeve and a giant black widow spider on the back.
I had to binge watch all 26 episodes again before looking at this video. I never actually watched it as a little kid, but I completely love Growing Up Creepie. I loved the artstyle, the fun education on insects, and Creepie herself. I would love lOve if it came back!
I'd LOVE to see this show come back in any capacity tbh. My sis and I were nuts for this show lol
Discovery Kids holds a special place in my memories. CN and Disney had their times in my childhood as well, but Discovery Kids had a lot of my favorite cartoons and live action shows (I loved Trading Spaces: Boys vs Girls) when I was a kid. I forgot about Growing Up Creepie, but I remember enjoying it despite my fear of bugs (saw a comment that this show cured them of their fear of spiders, but it did not happen for me lol). Suffice to say I would watch a revival of this show!
the idea that this show can come back is exciting! With characters like Wednesday Addams, Kat from Wendell and Wild and Eddie Munson doing so well online I just know that they’d be a huge audience for this fun gothy bug cartoon! Awesome vid made my morning
Please this show meant so much to me! I was a very lonely child and I remember being around 6 years old and pretending that she was my best friend and I remember loving her hair so much! Thanks for reminding me of this gem 💕
Creepie was the best goth girl character of the 2000s and I will defend that to my grave. Sam from Danny Phantom was cool but also a bit of an overly political mean girl.
Edit for context:
Out of all the animated goth girls of the 2000s I can think of, Creepie was the best (in MY OPINION) because she was less of a stereotype and more of a better role model, also she just got more screentime. Raven and Mai (ATLA) never got a lot of screentime and were both written to be kinda boring/stereotypical, Sam was a massive negative stereotype and often a jerk for no reason. Creepie was just chill.
There is also Raven from Teen Titans. 2003 was a great year for goth vibes
Ruby gloom too
Good era for animated goth and emo characters
When goth characters used to have character and personality rather than being bland.
That’s definitely she was one of the best, the good old days.
Dang Jordon, I loved this show as a kid! (Even though bugs freak me out. 😅) Thanks for shedding some light on it and giving it the spotlight it deserves! Wicked!
Yeah I have a fear of certain insects so I’m not sure if I can give it a try but I too appreciate this video 😊
MY CHILDHOOD!!!!! You're wicked for covering this :D
I'd love to see them revive it in some way
Well, you should know, Canadian cartoons actually end.
I sadly passed on this when I was younger -- I remember seeing commercials for it while watching Time Warp Trio, but for some reason my silly kid brain thought it looked dumb and I never gave it a fair shot. It's a shame, too, because looking at it now I really love the character designs and color palette, and I especially really like the messaging of it. I was quite the outcast growing up (albeit for more nerdy reasons), and I probably could have benefitted from a show with this kind of message!
What an unexpected but welcome dose of nostalgia! I distinctly remember watching this on either Nickelodeon as a kid! The idea that such an obscure animated property could actually make a comeback is such an inspiring notion, and I'm definitely all for Growing Up Creepie and other cartoons like it to get a second chance.
What an amazing video, I loved the interview with the creators and am glad this show has a possibility of coming back! I didn't have Discovery Kids growing up so I didn't get to watch Creepie before, but I might check it out now, it looks really fun. Thanks for the great start to Fringemas!
Thanks so much for watching! :D
I LOVED this show. Not only did I learn to always be proud and love myself, but I have bright dyed hair and collect bugs! I have pets from Madagascar hissing roaches to tarantulas! This show fueled my love for bugs❤️❤️❤️
oh my god this show was my absolute favorite when i was a kid!! it really did inspire my own middle school scemo phase haha! i can't say enough just how thrilled i would be to see creepie get some sort of resurgence!!
Creepie was a lot like how I was as a kid and definitely way more now in my 20s. Being a little emo child who also LOVES bugs, just barely in middle school I felt genuinely seen and I hope to see more of Creepie again so kids like me feel what I felt then🖤🕸🐞
I think you're pretty wicked, thanks for covering another piece of my childhood! 💜
Ay! Thanks so much for watching!
I thought I was the only one who remembered this show! I would LOVE to see it come back!
I would love a reboot! I love Growing Up Creepie so much. It's a core memory from my childhood.
I would adore seeing Creepie come back in any form
What a time to enjoy some Discovery Kids, Grossology was another great favor
Grossology coming really soon too!
i think that show awoke some weird things in people, lmao
I missed this show. I'd love to see it come back!
I liked how at the end of each episode we got to learn about the type of bug that was in it.
On the first day of Fringe-mas my favorite channel gave to me, Wait... Remember 'Growing up Creepie'
THIS was my favorite show growing up alongside Invader Zim! It was so disappointing and frustrating when after Discovery Kids went AWOL and was replaced, Creepie was GONE. NOWHERE! My young emo self couldn't scratch the itch for such a long time, and the fact that somehow nobody I knew remembered it either just made it worse! Now as an adult (still emo ngl lol), it's so gratifying to finally see that so many people remember it and are still fond of it today, just like me! AND the creators are thinking about bringing it back? RIGHTEOUS!! I'm so stoked like you wouldn't believe! Not only will old fans like me get to experience all of the aesthetically entomologal antics of Creepie all over again, but new (and probably young and impressionable) audiences will get to as well! I'm so happy and excited for what the future will hold for Creepie!
I remember watching this and to this day I still love it. This show made learning about insect super fun and interesting. I would gladly support a reboot or spin-off of this show any day.
i love this show, especially the bug bytes portion at the end! inspired me to read more, not just about bugs, but on all things that i found interesting! kudos to the creators!
YES IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS, your channel has just been a huge nostalgia trip for me and I've been waiting for this one in particular great videos keep it up ❤️
Thanks for watching!
I sort of remember this one! I watched like a few episodes when I was younger, I vaguely remember a headless cockroach episode, it was really neat. I'd love to see it coming back!
a lot of these "Wait.. remember (x)" shows have been cartons I've seen a while ago, it's nice seeing them again.
Always loved discovery kids and growing up Creepie was the best it should 100% come back
Okay, I cracked up at that little clip (6:29) where the show proved itself somewhat self-aware.
Aww this show was what I watched when I felt outcasted and judged for being “weird” I would LOVE A GROWING UP CREEPIE REBOOT 🥰 well even if it doesn’t, even a 1 hour special would be nice as well
This is like finding an old drawing you did when you were 8 and thinking "oh, yeah, I kind of remember this".
Definitely saw this show, but it was like a tiny grain of sand among all the other shows.
Fringemas already? Can't wait to see what you're going to remember.
I loved growing up Creepy when I was a kid. I was bummed out that none of my friends liked it. I feel like something about the animation style weirded them out. Oh well their lost.
I really hope it’s revived, and they use the same voice actors ❤
I truly want to see this show again (seriously it was one of my favorite as a kid and I still remember some episodes to this day) but I doubt it they will keep the same charm it once had especially with today people
I love it when interviews are successfully orchestrated and utilized like the ones done for this video.
It was a good show I agree underrated as well.
This man has me remembering my favorite childhood shows 😭
I'm so happy that Growing Up Creepie is getting attention and a possible future! I remember watching it when I was a kid... despite my fear of bugs in real life, I do think learning about them is cool.
I would love to see something like Grown Up Creepie, TBH. She was one of my all-time favorite animated characters growing up, and I remember especially seeing her on TV at my cousin's house. They played it pretty much all day when it was on. The character design was great, and really appealed to me as an artist. The music stood out, the art style was super aesthetically pleasing, the voice work, etc. I missed this show a lot when it ended, and it would be really nice to have a continuation of it someday soon.
Childhood classic for me
I remember this show back in the day
Yes I remember. This show showed me the first goth character. I still remember the theme song at 20 years old. I looked for to seeing their episode along with Grossology, my other favorite Kabillion show.
Growing up Creepie was such a major part of my childhood, and I loved being represented as an alternative kid. I would love a reboot if there was ever a possibility for that.
This is a show I had no clue existed. A good treat for the Fringemas start!
Oh my god!! I’m soooo glad you talked about this show!! This was one of my favorite discovery kids shows!! I never hear anyone really remember it or talk about it. I’d love to see a reboot or a continuation of the show!
Holy Jesus!! Loved this interview you had with these amazing people! I am super excited to see where this inspiring show will go in the future. The stories that were shared here were so touching. I was already a fan but I am even more so after watching this video. Truly wholesome. Thank you for sharing and making this happen!
Bring it back, it thematically hits so many notes that people can identify with and explore their roles with being different or how to engage with difference. Really cool to see this type of video set up
I'd love to see this show brought back in some way. This is one of the few shows as a kid that I really wanted more of and thought about
I don't know if I've ever become so passionate about something this instantly?? I want a continuation of this show so bad!!!!!! It sounds so unique and heartfelt and wise, and I think audiences would eat it up, just like they tried to back then! I can't believe this story of a beloved cancelled show could actually end happily?? I'll be awaiting more news!!!!
I would love a reboot. I loved this so much when I was a kid but never met anyone else who watched it (except people on the internet lol).
Words can not express how much I NEED there to be more creepy!! I absolutely loved this show growing up and I've made all of my friends watch it over the years. FYI it's available to watch here on UA-cam for free!
No. I don't remember. But thanks for the reminder. This is basically The Adams Family Wednesday before she got her own show! 🕷️
This show would be a gem to see come back!
Thank you so much for reviewing the show I haven’t seen it in like four years. I completely forgot the name. I can’t find it. Thank you for reviewing it I haven’t seen it in years it’s been so hard finding this show thank you for viewing it so I could find out the name
