  • Taken from WWOR's Million Dollar Movie airing of Forbidden Planet. WWOR-TV (channel 9) was an independent station from the New York City area that could be reached on cable for Albany, NY viewers; today it is owned by MyNetworkTV. Ethan's TV Junk Yard has commercials from the program that preceded this, a National Geographic special.
This was a month after WWOR introduced its new, MCA-era logo. However most of its on-air programming remained the same, though the news got moved to 10pm, and movies were relegated to weekends so they could air Morton Downey Jr.'s talk show.
    (C) 1987 MCA/Universal, now part of Comcast; WWOR is now owned by Fox Television Stations. All rights go to their respective owners, same for the advertisements. For educational and historical purposes only. We do not profit off this video.

1:42 is the intro to the “Million Dollar Movie” on WWOR-TV, and it was one of the last intros to featured views from New York City and Atlantic City, NJ with the rendition of “Tara’s Theme” from “Gone With The Wind” played, and what’s interesting, the “Million Dollar Movie” CGI marquee from the “Dotted 9” era had the “Trapezoid 9” logo plastered over it, and this was after MCA took over station’s ownership from RKO General. This intro lasted until 1988 when it was replaced by the CGI intro that we all know and remembered. You might see the remnants of the “Dotted 9” logo on the CGI marquee where it looked fuzzy from left to right, and that was right after the logo transition.

And two of channel 9's many announcers dating back to the WOR-TV days, Ted Mallie and Phil Tonkin, on the announcing. And if there ever was a title that would've fitted for the Million Dollar Movie, Forbidden Planet would be one of them. This was sort of the beginning of the end for the Million Dollar Movie's golden age, dating back 70 years to 1954 when the program began. it's been known that the same M$M would air multiple times a week. And most of the films would be from RKO's library as channel 9 was an RKO owned station until 1987

@@NEPatriot That’s why that this was recorded on 10/25/87 which was the start of the MCA owned TV station era, “Million Dollar Movie” was still around until the early 1990’s, and they got rid of “Tara’s Theme” from “Gone With The Wind” and replaced by a generic GGI opening/closing that you see on many movie packages on WWOR-TV back around 1988 until 1992 or 1993, and the “Million Dollar Movie” was cut back to maybe a week until the early part of the 1990’s.

Just a few weeks later, we left East Keansburg, New Jersey and moved to Deposit, New York. 5:24 I miss Morton Downey Jr so much. By Jan 1988, Geraldo moved to WNBC Ch 4 right before NBC game shows.
