Love them cherry you guys have nice a strait . Maybe some day I will find a cherry that’s worth sawing out but around here there all small and crooked . Hope ta see a video of that cherry being sawed out I can smell it from here .
We’re pretty fortunate around the house to have some pretty decent cherries that have some size and are straight. It sure makes some pretty wood. And definitely smells good!! Appreciate you guys 🔥🪵👍🏻
Cherry will get your hopes up just to let ya down sometimes. I’ve gotten into a similar situation cleaning up a tree in a lady’s backyard. Glad you got to use a saw log though!! Enjoyed it Brandon!
Boy oh boy you’re right about that! I had saved those bigger branches to cut at one time and haul in. I was licking my chops got some good splits.. but then 🐜🐜!! 🤣🤣 Rained on my parade.. But fortunately that log is really nice 👍🏻 Appreciate you as always Jacob
Those carpenter ants are in 1 of every 3 trees we cut! They are really hard on the Cherry trees here. Oh well at least ya got a nice saw log! Take care Brandon👊🏻
They’ve wrecked my plans a few times this year 😡 I think they’re harder on trees than anything. But we’ll keep plugging along and make the best out of it. Appreciate ya Todd 🔥🪵👊🏻
Holy mackerel guy just because it has holes in it doesn't mean it wont burn, by the time you get it split all the ants will be gone. but it is your wood. I have burned wood all my life to keep warm in Maine so I kinda know a bit about it.
Oh it’ll definitely burn, but for my purpose of selling it to customers who use it specifically for smoker wood and pay a premium price for it, it’s just not worth the effort. The bundle grade wood and quality barkless wood is what I’m after. And evidently so are the ants! I have more wood in my shed than I can burn for years and years so I’m not necessarily looking to heat with this cherry.
It should make some really nice looking stuff. I was pretty disappointed cause I was locking my chops for those big cherry rounds 😖 Take care Del 🇺🇸🪓🍒🪵
At least you got a good saw log out of it. I do agree with you though on leaving the rotten stuff back there. we all only have so much time, no sense in spending it on stuff thats not worth it. See ya on the next one!
The saw log was a really nice one! Very happy with it. It’s just a lot of splitting/widdling away at those rotten rounds to get the good stuff out of them. Just not worth the time and effort for premium splits.
Very happy with the log! I was quite surprised how good of shape it was. I am trying to do a better job myself with leaving the less desirable rounds in the woods. Have a good one Bobby
It does stink that you left it; as there is still good wood beyond the rotten core. Obviously you don’t burn woods yourself and only are interested in firewood as a commercial enterprise. So leaving it is understandable.
It’s a tough decision for sure. With that cherry, there’s just a small amount of good quality wood in the outer sap wood. That core and barkless wood is really what my smoker customer wants. My wood stove in the shop is my only need and I’ve got years worth of wood for it just off the non-desirable splits I make. I appreciate you always Mark
They do have those, I think they’re called Swedish fire logs?? These are pretty rotten but with enough kindling down in them, they’d probably burn a while

Thats bummer it was rotted up towards the top but the saw log you ended up with should make some great looking lumber!
Yea, I wasn’t expecting it because the rest of the tree looked good. But at least the log was good 👍🏻 so that was a plus
Nice saw log . I had the same thing with a black walnut tree . The ants had ate the middle out of it . See ya soon my friend !! 👍🏻🇺🇸🍒

Nice log! Too bad they all weren’t good ones👍👍
Yea, the definite bright side was the quality log. I was sure looking forward to those big rounds though. Would’ve made some nice splits 😖
At least it produced a good saw log. I need to do a better job of leaving some stuff in the woods, just ain't worth messing with. Take care my friend.

Man, I've been there! So disappointing when you get down to the log and discover it's rotten in the middle!
It is for sure! Especially when that barkless quality wood is really what you were after 😣
Why don’t you use it for your personal use
I may go back at some point when I get caught up and grab some of it? At least now the ants shouldn’t eat more of it at this point

Ants suck, keep cuttin' buddy!
Yea, they ruin a lot of goods trees! Oh well, on to the next one
Have a good week Travis
Don’t some people and I’d like to sell wood that the centre out for fires in the centre or is it too far gone, 👍🪵🔥🚀🏰🚜🇨🇦🇱🇷
