    You always preach a good sermon, Ken: I shoot a cold qual as my "reality test" before each training session. A cold qual, as you know, then also doubles as a diagnostic tool for identifying (real world )strong and weak points and a warmup. On another note entirely, I worked 35 years as a Corporate Account Manager to Fortune 50 manufacturers. None of them IMO were more deeply committed to excellence in innovation and product development than Bill Wilson and his team.

    You speak about training as you would carry. I was at a class a couple months ago where we were shooting out to 550-600 yards. It was spitting snow and 15 mph winds with gusts up to 25. It was miserable weather to be out in all day, I had a blast. To be aiming 4 or 5 off the target and see it impact was magical. As the instructor told me, most people don't get to experience days like this but days like this make you a better marksman.

    This is such a great drill. Did it today, and my ammo-use-hesitance the last two years has definitely made me initially slightly uncomfortable/wobbly with off-hand when doing cold drills. It's a sign to train offhand more, thanks for the reminder!

    Thanks Ken, I really appreciate the adage, “Don’t compromise your accuracy!”, it means a lot in this age of shoot faster. Try as I might, from concealment to first shot for me is about 2.75 secs (with accuracy), and I’m tired of beating myself up for not being “faster.” What difference does it make if I shoot fast and miss??

      Accuracy is the hard part, speed will come as you keep doing this practice 2-2-2. Keep on working. It will improve (I am also having speed vs accuracy issue, you are not alone). He is a professional and makes it look easy.

    • @skipdreadman8765
      @skipdreadman8765 2 роки тому +4

      Slow is smooth and smooth is fast... and it just gets faster by itself. Focus on getting the fundamentals right, using as much time as it takes. With repetition (dry fire training really helps), you'll naturally get faster. Progress will be gradual.

      To my knowledge that's true of commercial indoor ranges pretty much everywhere. If you don't have access to a law enforcement range, and can't rent out an entire range, your best option may be to find somewhere to shoot outdoors. I always like to do a variation of the 2-2-2 drill. At a commercial range I do it from the low ready position. It's not as good as shooting from the draw, but it works pretty well.

    Thanks for this drill. I am a revolver shooter and carrier in almost all situations, and the 2-2-2 is going to become part of my range drills, probably the first one I shoot. I carried revolvers on duty even after our agency changed to S&W 4006s and later Glock 22s. (Being a captain had its privileges.) I did tell my officers that if they beat me during our semiannual qualifications under the Oklahoma CLEET standards. (We had three chances to shoot a passing score twice.) I retired carrying my revolvers. I certainly agree with your guidance not to compromise accuracy for speed. Thanks, again.

    Why am I significantly more accurate with weak hand compared to strong hand? I'm not opposite eye dominant or anything and I'm a right hand shooter but for the life of me with both irons and red dot I am SIGNIFICANTLY better weak hand when doing drills like this compared to strong hand. I'm a tack driver with 2 hands and actually really accurate with the left even though it feels extremely awkward, especially if I have to manipulate slide or mag release but when I switch to my right hand it's like I start hitting a good 6 to 10 inches away from where I'm actually aiming.

    Thanks for this excellent drill - I feel like I’ve gotten a free master’s level course by a real expert! Hey - given the current ammo shortage and high costs of same, how many trouble-free rounds is a good number to put through a new firearm before you deem it reliable for carry? 100? 500?

    One difference in shooting with the left hand if you are right handed I was taught to cant the gun to the right a little bit bringing the sites in front of your right eye the dominant eye you don't need any training to do this it comes natural I found I could get the sights on target just as quick as I could with my right hand.. I don't have to train my left eye. Try it you'll like it. Excellent demonstration though. Especially in changing hands that was excellent.
