  • In this video I talk about my Daystate Red Wolf. I guess this is a review of some sorts?
    Having shot the gun a lot in recent months I decided to make a video where I talk about things I have discovered about the gun.
    Please feel free to ask any questions you might have.

    Informative video Chris, we have 2 Midnights, Jan 21 purchase / September 20 build, both with the GCU 2.0 both have the 13 shot mags, both in excess of 8,000 pellets each & performing in all weathers very well, its adviseable to condition the battery monthly, good shooting & keep us up to date with the guns progress

      You have excellent taste! Please can you tell me, can you double load the 13 shot mag? This sometimes happens when out people have used my other guns.... And I really like that you can't do this on the RW. Also, have you tried the Delta wolf?

    Was wondering if you have had a chance to shoot an FX Impact MK3 and how they compact.
    I am looking at both as are others I’m certain. The Delta Wolf , while beyond state of the art is not something in my choice mix. Looks like it has a smart phone taped to the butt stock and while a great accurate hum just not for me

      Hello, I can't offer any significant insight on the MK3 or the DW as I have not shot either of them! I would LOVE to try them both, but as they are new guns I don't think I will be able to find a pre-owned one to have a try with for some time. Please consider subscribing if you enjoy the content! Take care.

    You say it feels digital. That is because it is. The trigger and the cocking mechanism use microswitches to operate them. It’s not witchcraft, but it’s pretty close. I have the Wolverine R, which has a good solid mechanical feel to it. I have changed the single shot tray, to Rowan engineering flip out unit. It is so much easier to load than using the tray, which I found very fiddly to use and needed care when loading. It doesn’t help if you’ve got sausage fingers LOL. 😂 I personally think that being able to change the power setting at a touch of a button very useful. especially if you are using the rifle for close quarter pest control, in Barnes etc. it would be nice if all regulated PCPs had this ability. So I personally see this as a major plus point and not at all redundant. After all the Red Wolf is so much more than just a plinking rifle. 🙂👍

    Please provide more explanation behind your comment about preferring the Pulsar. How does the Pulsar compare to the Red Wolf in accuracy, weight balance, etc. I am torn between getting a Pulsar or Red Wolf for HFT and benchrest in the US. Thank you.

    • @southwestshooters
      @southwestshooters  3 роки тому

      Dear sir, in terms of accuracy there is no difference at all. As far as I am aware the internals of both guns are identical. So the accuracy is the same in both guns. I am not someone who really stands up and shoots too often, but I can hit things stood up...I shoot 95 % of the time from a bench, and both guns work well for this. I like the look of the Pulsar, I think it is one of the coolest looking things ever made. I love the look of it. You will like both guns! Well, that would be my guess anyway. I would honestly suggest the Red Wolf for what you are looking for, but, if possible, I would try both of them and make your choice! If there is anything else I can help with please fire away.

    I have now had my first PCP gun, a BSA Ultra CLX .177, which is a great gun, for a week. It has got the 12 shot magazine. Now I'm wondering about your remark that single shots are more accurate than ones fired multi-shot. Is it a frame of mind, where you are more deliberate in the process? Thinking about not wasting the shot, that you lovingly placed in the breach. Today I received a Hill pump with the airdry and was surprised how easy, as long as you paced yourself that someone with an OBE ( over bloody eighty) could fill it to the 235bar.

    • @southwestshooters
      @southwestshooters  2 роки тому

      I think it is generally recognised that the tray provides better groups than mags. There are several references to this on the channel, check out the videos where I demo the s400 and the fwb, both single shot pcps. I also test the theory using my redwolf. I can't guarantee that the psychology doesn't play a role, but it is generally recognised from speaking to people. I am not sure if a tray for the CLX exists.... Please consider subscribing if you enjoyed the video in any way!

    • @hankvana2149
      @hankvana2149 2 роки тому

      @@TheOverlyHackeled I changed my mind about the Red Wolf. The main reason I was looking at Daystate was that I had developed a problem with my right (shooting) eye and needed a PCP that was left-handed or ambidextrous. Being used to my Impact MK2 where I can easily tune the airgun for 13 to 25 grain pellets (12 to 45 fpe - or more if I want) I was surprised that the Red Wolf was not tuning-friendly and required an expensive accessory to make adjustments. The local Daystate supplier recommended not to try to re-turn the factory settings that the choice was a regular rifle shooting 18 grain pellets (35 fpe) or a HP version for 25 grain pellets. I found that too restrictive especially when the preferred pellet may be out of stock and backorder for months. I briefly considered the Wolverine R and the RAW HM 1000X LTR but they both required almost totally disassembling the rifle to make adjustments so that disqualified them as well. I accept that the manufacturers do an excellent job of tuning the airgun to a specific pellet but feel that current technology (pellets and slugs) requires that the user be able to make changes as needed - small adjustments can make a big difference in accuracy. After much deliberation I purchased a .22 caliber FX Crown MK2 and am very pleased with it. On top of being adjustable, it is accurate, light weight and gets well over 100 (33 fpe) shots per fill. The Gen 3 is a very interesting PCP, I did consider it but I'm happy with my Gen 2 and wanted a more traditional rifle like the Crown. I look at the Gen 1 as a (pure) pellet rifle, the Gen 2 as a pellet and slug rifle and the Gen 3 as a slug and pellet rifle. The Gen 2 is ideal for my application, it has enough power for me to experiment with slugs but it also shoots pellets extremely well. IMHO, the Impact is easily a more versatile and capable airgun than the Daystate Red Wolf. The Delta Wolf has potential, I guess, it's not my type of airgun... too many gadgets. I do love my PCPs but last week I got a Weihrauch HW30S and am totally enjoying its simplicity and calm shooting cycle. Opposite extremes eh? Cheers!
