      @Luchon20082010 Physical peak Rafa was a Monster tho. Especially on clay, made Fed look like he wasn't an all-time clay great (very consistent, lots of clay titles and French open finals/ just usually always lost to Nadal on clay). Also given Nadal wasn't intimidated by Fed, Fed's shots didn't penetrate the court as well/ less easy points on serve on clay, Nadal the best "turning defensive on-the-run tennis into offense" type player ever. Nadal just was basically Fed's kryptonite when he was on, neutralized that aggression and pinned Fed's single handed backhand a lot of the time. That was almost always a battle for Fed, but made for some of the greatest matches Ever, that clash of style. Hard to put into words how exciting it was to see a new Fedal battle, having no idea how it'd turn out

      @TheseHoesAreLoyal Рік тому +5

      You're stating the exact opposite of how things are in reality, buddy. Federer may end up as the most successful player of all time because he has the most impressive records in such short span of time which demonstrate his immense success and dominance: 5 consecutive Wimbledon and 5 consecutive US open titles, 237 consecutive weeks at no.1, 36 consecutive appearances at grand slam quarterfinals (or better), and 23 consecutive appearances at grand slam semifinals (or better).
      On the other hand, Djokovic has his own impressive repertoire of records that cannot be broken; those records are different from Federer's repertoire in the sense that they cement Djokovic's greatness as a very balanced, consistent and complete player on ALL surfaces: double career grand slam, double golden masters, most weeks at no.1, most wins against top-10 players in a single calendar season in history, Novak slam (4 consecutive majors won from 2015 to 2016 with a WTF title included).
      Federer may be more talented, but Djokovic is more complete as a tennis player. And Federer may be more successful than Djokovic because he has so many incredible records in such a short period of time. When it comes to success on all surfaces, however, it's Djokovic who has the edge.

    This match hides the Blake story, or perhaps illustrates it. Blake beat *everybody* in 2006, beat Nadal couple times, Nalbandian, everybody in his path that year … except Federer. Blake would have been the clear #1, an American #1 in 2006, w nobody else anywhere close since then.
    Even so, and talent aside, Blake had correctable flaws in his game, that Federer did not. Blake will stop short a step on his one hander bh and then bend at the waste to reach the ball. That’s off balance, and weaker striking position. Same ball to Federer and he uses his feet to get on top of the ball, and strikes earlier. That’s not a talent issue, it’s a refuse to get uncomfortable and change issue. American vs EU tennis, I dunno?

    It's infuriatingly cringy to scroll through comments and see so many people have the most hyperbolic praises for Federer here. Don't they realise how much a favourable matchup helps a player reach their best level? If you ever want to have a discussion on real tennis levels, you will find one person in twenty here willing to see any nuances in the topic, here on this kind of channel. Federer will always be my favourite player and ill watch him throughout my life but seriously, this is so disgusting to read over and over again.
    It's just absolutely criminal how people have this delusional confidence in their sky high assessments of Federer. "bESt tEnNiS peRfOrmANcE oF aNy pLaYEr fRom hUmAN sPeCieS iN aLl oF hIstOrY (and i would know because i happen to be 150 years old and have seen over 50 million tennis matches from all the legends of the last 100 years, I'm definitely not just a twenty year old who only cares about my favourite of the big three!!)
    Complete and utter echo chamber of circle jerk fandom.

      @sakshamsanwaria7486 5 місяців тому +3

      Dude, Blake had beaten Nadal and Nalbandian multiple times during his 2006 season. He would've been the top player, at least in 2006, if not for Roger Federer. As for your matchup point, I don't know where that nuance go when we talk about Roger-Rafa matchup, huh? As for Blake, he did defeat Roger at the most crucial time preventing him to win a gold at 2008 Olympics. So yes, his matchup wasn't any different than any other player to Roger. He was thrashed as well as any other decent player during that era. If matchup was the only answer, then Roger would've had unfavourable results with other player and ehih he clearly didn't. So there goes your argument. As for the above performance, I don't think it's his best but definitely among the best. As for who played the greatest match ever? Well that is a wing question with no metric to gauge. One player's strength is other player's weakness.

    As good as the Fed and his BH were in this match, Blake was hardly a match for him, all through their careers. Then again, Fed could only play those who made it through...and Blake came through some tough opposition. Also, Fed beat Nadal in the semis with some great tennis!
    IMO, what's more impressive than this single match is Fed's entire 2006 season. Right after an incredible 81-4 season (that was hampered by an injury towards the end and that saw him lose the final to Nalby in a thriller) which really _should_ have been 82-3, Fed goes and pulls off this 92-5 (!) season, with 4 losses to Nadal and 1 to Murray. In those 4 losses to Nadal, Fed won more points in 2 of them and had MPs in the best match of them all, Roma 2006.
    Then, *nine* years after doing this, 33-34 y.o Fed goes 3-5 against Djokovic in 2015, with Djoko playing some of the best tennis of his life.
    No matter where you look and what you look at, Fed's there...with the incredible consistency of mosquitoes in the evening shade. Truly remarkable.
