I saw Nektar in April 1975 on this tour and they played all of side 1 and Larry Fast was with them and they were great. Berkeley Community Theater Berkeley California. Pavlov’s Dog opened.
YES. IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE! One of my favorite albums!!
An essential Nektar album, with a unique lineup. Larry Fast adds a synth to Nektar's guitars and organ. And another addition is notable - The English Chorale, who sang on quite a few albums, including ones by the Grateful Dead and Alan Parsons Project (including "The Raven"). They mostly sang background voices, but they sang a stunningly beautiful bit on Peter and the Wolf (various artists).
Had never heard of Nektar till the late 70's when I came across Tab In The Ocean (TITO) in a "used" record bin; and bought it based on the album cover alone. Being thrilled to come across Nektar by chance, I then purchased 4 more "used" Nektar albums (still have them), and became a huge fan!! Unlike the fame of Yes, Genesis, ELP, no one I know had ever heard of Nektar. Great stuff!! THANK YOU Justin for bringing them to light! Please do more Nektar!! With Peace and Love to all! (Michael)
I was going to recommend the album before this one, Down To Earth. It's highly possible that Recycled has songs and bits that were written for it, but never used. JP made some good comments on the group, except the lead vocalist Roye Albrighton's abilities, which I think are better than good. He has a rock star presence in his voice that can slide into a higher octave - if the mix put the vocals above the instruments, you can hear it better.
FINALLY a full reaction to my favorite Nektar album and what I consider to be one of the greatest prog albums of all time. Absolutely EPIC.
Enjoy :)
Another great album from Nektar, and their last good album in my view.
Their sound is so unique in the world of Classic Prog from their total "Space Prog" 1st album "Journey to the Center of the Eye" to more melodic albums in "Tab & RTF".
Side one is fantastic, side two mixing in a "Disco-Prog" like rhythm and finishing with the fantastic emotional "It's All Over" ! 👍
All Superior Musicians and Roye Albrighton is the musical savant of the band with his amazing writing with beautiful melodic catchy rhythm playing and tasteful Lead solos, Roye is greatly missed with his death in July 2016' RIP 🎶🎼✌
Hey, nice one! Nektar!
Excellent review! Recycled was my introduction to Nektar back in 1978. I was very impressed by it then, on the first listen, so it remains a favorite, as does, A Tab In the Ocean. A Live album from 1977 called 'Thru the 'Ears, is very cool also, but has never been released on CD.
As for the vocals, that is just the Nektar sound, and what you expect to hear when you listen to them..
Glad you gave it a listen. This was the first Nektar I bought. Nektar albums were not abundant in Texas. Found this in a discount bin. Didn’t know anything about them but liked the cover. So I can’t help it. Even though I now like their other albums this is my favorite. I really liked all the electronic elements.
The new Remaster CD is great showing the two different sounds of the masterpiece, Nektar was never that happy with the original sound of the release of this record. The Remastered CD with help by Larry Fast is truly great ! 👍🎶🎼
Part 1 of this album is still some of my favorite prog - catchy, riffy, electric, melodic.
Side 2 is less wacky and more funky. I feel like you’ll really really like it
This album got me into prog, I think it was 8 years ago as a teen. Love it.
Left channel is louder than right for the music. For your voice it's ok.
Underrated, under-appreciated in the UK at the time and under the influence of various drugs, Nektar deserved more from the prog world but hopefully they are being discovered anew thanks to channels such as this. What's not to like?
Great to hear some good old Nektar. I agree that though more advanced in ways, it doesn't quite match up to Tab and Remember the Future. Still a great classic album!
Reminds me of a Kansas, Styx, Utopiaish thing but lacking the great vocalist. Not bad though.
Their music is good but the vocalist is bad.
Not on Remember the Future.
