    Thank you! You’re the first mainstream reviewer (to my knowledge) that touches upon the false focus for “eye” (and “animal”) recognition. Same thing in the XH-2. Camera found and focused on the eye but upon looking at the photo either the nose or forehead is in focus. A lot of reviews boast how quickly focus acquisition is with face/eye/animal but rarely do they actually show if it nailed the focus.

    Hi Manny, firstly thanks for sharing your thoughts. I can relate to having a camera that inspires you to go shoot. I use the Canon R5C and love it for pro work, although the XT4 was my fun, creative, pick up and go have fun camera. I’m hopping to go Fuji medium format for my personal use soon. Just give me a 35mm and I’m good to go. No need to invest in the whole ecosystem. Keep it simple and sophisticated.

    I'm glad you don't give the most "tech-spec" review possible with these new Fujis, I enjoy your real-world use comparison and how these different cameras make you feel. Your work speaks for itself, and I have seen your more technical reviews, (i'm a Sony user myself), but its videos like yours lately that make me want to go out and grab one of these new cameras by them. They really do look phenomenal, and in general I think this year changes the way people look at Fuji cameras.

    Spot on about having a side camera. I picked up an ancient x-e1 to dangle off my wrist when I'm riding scooter or bike around NYC.. and it's SO FUN. Tossed a manual prime on there. Just range focus around the city and treat it like a point and shoot with some power features. I end up on location with my main body and rush through so I can go back to the fun part ha.

    Totally agree. The evf needs to be better. I shoot Sony ( A7iv) and Fujifilm, really enjoy both. Sony autofocus is on a different level, a wonderful camera but not much soul. Cameras today are soo good, so to take/make (will not get in that argument) a bad photo is not the camera's fault. However for me it is the process and here Fuji wins out. I own the XT5 and it makes the process fun again. I also bought the X100V on the first day of release. That's not a camera, that's my friend, my mate, my companion. I won't go there on that camera, but for me the XT5, while not perfect, has a soul and it encourages me be to be a photographer again.

      I totally agree with you. Leading up to all of Fuji’s new releases this year the forums were full of people giving huge wish lists of specs, yet that didn’t want to spend more then 2k on it. Like really?
      Fuji went out all out the X-H2 and X-H2s and dialled it down a bit for the X-T6 because they probably knew more people would pick it up.
      Anyway, I’m a happy X-H2s owner over here. Can’t really complain about it that Fujifilm does need to roll out a update for subject tracking on at least the birds and animals. As a wildlife photographer I do notice the lack of hit accuracy and even have experienced when he experienced with it locking one eye yet the other eye is in focus with birds.

      @@Will_B_Photos_MTL the new price of the x-t2s has tumbled though, with the x-h2 already getting some discounts. I was offered one for €2025 in a store not willing to discount the x-t5 which was €2k.
      New release prices are always inflated, but I think that shows there was plenty of margin to include this one feature I think they should have carried over and still sold it at €2k. At the time of the release of the x-h2s I predicted the x-t5 would be a €2k camera... but for that price including the stacked sensor. I'm pleased to see the 40mp sensor appears to perform, bit still think the stacked sensor more than the evf was the missed opportunity here.

    The EVF is my one gripe with the XT-5. Frankly, I don't know why Fuji went with two different XH-2 models? The XH-2S (which would have been called the X-H2) would be targeted to hybrid, fast-action shooters. Then the XT-5 (assuming all the specs of the XH-2) would be the lone camera with the new 40MP sensor. Both cameras having the latest and greatest EVF. Enough differentiation between the XH-2 and XT-5 so not to have one cannibalize the sales of the other. Instead it feels like Fuji offered slightly "watered down" version of the XH-2 to those folks who wanted the retro styling.

    Manny i am so damn glad you added that last clip in this review talking about how your Sony’s don’t encourage you to go out and shoot like the Fuji’s do. More importantly, how cameras do everything so easily nowadays it takes the magic away from photography. This needs to become a mainstream argument in the photo world because I am selling my A7iii because even if it does things so beautifully well, features aren’t everything. I am buying the x-t5 instead to switch it out because I feel the same way you do. When I’ve owned fuji cameras I shot with them so much more because they’re build on creativity and inspiration not on being the most capable (even if they very much are the most capable APSC camera maker), whereas Sonys feel soulless and computer like.

    • @Battlem0nk

      Curious what the demographic of Fuji users are. Seems Sony users tends to be of the younger techie generation. I'm a X-T1 Fuji user but don't quiet get the whole makes you want to be creative or go out to shoot stuff feel. To me it is just a digital camera I use for shots. When I try the Sony bodies I feel no different. Maybe because I never done photography with film to have that nostalgia?

    • @savnac
      @savnac Рік тому +1

      @@Battlem0nk I never did film either. But for some reason I seem to find fuji to have more of an inspiring feel. I like how it features double exposure mode in camera. I love how the great IBIS sallows to capture moving subjects handheld with slow shutter speed while keeping scene frozen without camera shake. I enjoy the film simulations as they allow me to personalize colors in camera. It’s just more creatively liberating where as the Sony is very minimalistic and computer-like. Set your settings and capture an image. That’s it. No extra touches, no extras for creative exploration.

    • @Battlem0nk
      @Battlem0nk Рік тому

      @@savnac Doesn't Sony have picture profiles and creative styles that does similar to what film simulation do? There are even sony recipes you customize that mimic Fuji film sims. Haven't played with them since I do all my edits with RAW. Custom preset batch and done.
      When I use my X-T1 it feels like using a B/W TI-89 graphic calculator. It works but no frills. Menus all are simple. Though my favorite film sim is classic chrome.
      When I try the Sony A7IV the colorful menu reminds me of using an old flip phone. I don't mind it kinda like it.

    • @savnac
      @savnac Рік тому

      @@Battlem0nk I guess it’s all personal preference. Subjective. I love CC film simulation also and it’s my favorite too.
      Sony does have picture profiles also but it’s not as intuitive to use as the profiles don’t have descriptions or unique names to identify them easily. It’s more of a working photographers camera where fuji is more of a creative enthusiasts camera (which can also be used for gigs).

    • @professionalpotato4764
      @professionalpotato4764 Рік тому

      @@Battlem0nk Sony's picture profiles are kinda similar, but they're meant for video and process images in the way video is done. E.g. it's more to do with log curves, colour space etc. Those are functions used to conform a data rate in order to capture more dynamic range. I'm not exactly certain about the timeline of the process, but I think the changes are made right before compression into a JPEG (or video i.e. moving JPEGs). Log curves exist because in order to capture more than 12 stops of data coming from a 14/16bit sensor, an 8 or 10 bit image can only capture 8-10 stops respectively. Photo RAW files don't work this way. If it did, our RAW files would come out flat and we would have to colour grade it.
      However, Fujifilm simulations are remapping colours of the RAW file even before the JPEGs are generated, and it is handling the full 14 bit depth worth of information. In that sense, it is a little less prone to things like compression artefacts from log conversions which is a lossy conversion in most mirrorless cameras. Or that's what I'm assuming. I could be totally wrong here, if someone knows better I'd be glad to hear.
      If you go to Samuel Streetlife's channel, he has a video talking about why presets and profiles are entirely different and not interchangeable. It has to do with when and how the colour data is being transformed. ua-cam.com/video/xx9i-BDozAc/v-deo.html

      @@bbasleigh6149 Depends how you buy, new or at least newly released is rarely the best route in terms of price and bugs. My x-t3 cost me €750, so a return of €600 isn't too bad. My x-t5 cost me €1800 on a deal. For the discounted price now I accepted I'd have to accept the first round of bugs and firmware upgrades. €1200 is still a lot for the upgrade, but it's a significant enough upgrade from the x-t3. I had wanted the x-t4 to upgrade from the x-t2, but it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment, being just a repackaged x-t3. The x-t5 is exactly what I had been waiting for.
      But your net loss isn't €1400, it's the €900 depreciation on the x-t3 when you sell it. The fact the next camera costs more doesn't mean you've lost money, it's money you're investing for an upgrade. That's why I said my upgrade would cost €1200, my loss is €150.
      I only buy new if it's gear I intend to hang on to for a long time, regardless of what is released next. Same with lenses. I intend to hang on to the x-t5 for many years. I agree on the evf, but it's not the end of the world.

That takes the joy for process up to the highest level. It is so peaceful. My Fuji is an M42 Fujica^^. For the work: A soulless machine does a better job.

    I have noticed that with every new Fuji camera there's always a 'thorn' embedded somewhere. Generally that 'thorn' is 'fixed' in the next release, but it too will very likely have its own 'thorn'. That said, I currently have 6 Fuji bodies, all different. Go figure.

    I'm still shooting with a Sony A7Rii, I purchased a X100V in 2020 and fell in love with Fuji... I use it daily.. Do you think switching my A7Rii for an X-T5 would be a good idea? Is it a step backwards since its Full Frame vs APS-C? I find my Sony lacking in functions now (lack of touch screen being its biggest downfall). I'm ready to upgrade, I just don't know if I'm going to regret going from full frame to APS-C, if my image quality will suffer (especially at lower light)

    • @BaltasMykolas
      @BaltasMykolas Рік тому

      It depends on what you need for your camera. But I would not recommend switching to fuji and apsc. The quality, however good it is, it is not there. Full frame is way better. I did have canon FF some time ago, then sold everything and went to fuji. Now I'm coming back to canon & looking at sony as well. The only benefit that fuji has, was the small and light form factor. Also their small lenses. I was instantly taking way more photos than with dslr. But that is it. I soon noticed that the IQ is not the same, focusing is ok but bad if you shoot fast moving objects, and the most negative thing for me is their lack of quality lenses. The selection is poor. Maybe am spoiled coming from full frame, but apsc is not worth it. If you can, keep your sony and try fuji as an alternative and see if it works for you.

    I went to B&H Photo in New York this weekend to compare an X-H2 vs X-T5. Specks are similar on the photography side which I'm mostly interested in. I’m traveling with my cameras, so I like them to be as light as possible. Thus, I did have almost decided on an X-T5. I don’t mind the PASM style button although I prefer the standard Fuji dials.
    It was only after I looked into the Viewfinder, I thought there might be something wrong with the X-T5. The view was smaller and significantly dimmer than that of the X-H2. It is like comparing your 48-inch old edge lit LED TV with a 75-inch OLED TV, the difference was massive. After seeing this difference, I would think about it every time if I decided to buy the X-T5, wondering how this would look in the X-H2. So, my advice to people deciding on the X-T5, do not under any circumstances look into a X-H2 view finder, it will ruin your day. If you’ve never seen it, you’ll be fine, because the X-T5 is an excellent camera.

    I said the exact same thing about the EVF in another channel and got some flack for it. To me, there was no reason to keep the old EVF except to place an artificial line of demarcation between it and the "flagship" cameras. They could have put a better EVF in this one for what? $50 more? $100 more? It would still have been a lower price than the XH2 and XH2s but the shooter gets a better experience. Also, no battery grip was a big kick in the pants. Again, no valid reason to not offer it other than to artificially differentiate it from the X-H2 cameras. Fuji would have no problem selling the battery grip--especially for those that want to use longer lenses and need a better grip experience. It's almost like Fuji has said that "Photo-Only" customers are now second-tier in their eyes. It's really disappointing. I would have been happy to pay a bit more for a top-tier tool that delivers a more analog experience. Maybe I'm in the minority.

    • @Battlem0nk
      @Battlem0nk Рік тому

      Fuji going where the market is shifting and that is hybrid/video. In essence "photo-only" is actually second-tier now. Sometimes that extra $100 has a psychological effect. X-T4 was $1699 and guess they want that target.

    • @JeffreyHauser
      @JeffreyHauser Рік тому +1

      A battery grip option is almost a NECESSITY when shooting with the 80mm, 90mm or any of the Fuji telephoto zooms. What a shame this is NOT an option. I have no interest in the X-H2 or X-H2S.☹️

    • @Battlem0nk
      @Battlem0nk Рік тому

      @@JeffreyHauser If you need the extra grip for heavy lens could put on a L-bracket.
      But, think Fuji is targeting an audience that doesn't use big lens as they will say the X-H grip is beefier/better. Whelps. Can't satisfy everyone.
      I was bummed the X-T line didn't have a flippy screen. Ideally I wanted a screen like the A7RV that both tilt & flip.

    • @tomheim9516
      @tomheim9516 Рік тому

      @@JeffreyHauser Grip or no grip, you should support larger lenses with a hand, or (if on a tripod) via a tripod collar on the lens. Unless you want to put undue stress on the camera's lens mount. I won't disagree with the other advantages of a grip (extra batteries, vertical shooting, more connection points, etc)
