What a great idea organize such a useful retreat. There are so many things to learn about France and the way things are organized. To immigrate is an act to make consciously that has many consequences. We will move to France next April and we also get help in that process, even though we just come from The Netherlands, so not far at all.

Glad you resolved the stone issue at this point glad you pup is doing okay ! Abby I put bead board on my ceiling in basement had cut in 4 by 4 foot squares trimmed with 1 by 2s wanted a cottage look ! Was big cost savings and a friend of my helped me so used a Brad nail first the went back and screwed-up each board ! Since being in the stone cottage the wood may be better way for the look you want and cost effective instead of plaster board less change of mold also Just a thought! Another very interesting video ! Lots inquiries about moving to My neck of the woods last week Canada ,
Yes, we'll see what I can find for the ceiling. I just want it to be light. And yes, I imagine Canada is getting a lot of searches these days (as it does every election, I suspect).
Abby, the retreat sounds like it will be filled with valuable information. The amount of insulation seems like overkill but you’ll save on heating bills. I’m glad you were able to come to an agreement over the wall. ❤

Have you seen some of the other channels of Americans in France like Journey to the chateaux, the Scotters, chateau de la Grifferay, Growing in France, Ohio to Bordeaux etc
Loved this video, Abby. It seems you’ve connected with two people that can really be beneficial to anyone (even just considering) moving to France. Great that you’ll include details surrounding the healthcare system, as it’s so important! Question, do nurses/doctors that you’ve seen (and like) speak any English? I ask because if you are someone still very much learning the language of French, the doctor is someone you’d want to be able to understand exactly what is being told to you! Also, have you seen a dentist in France? Experience with that would be good to know as well. Also, traveling with pets! I know you have much experience with that, it seems second nature to you with your sweet Chloe (happy she is still with you ❤). Lastly (that I can think of now) how did y’all learn French, ie~ apps? Which ones (in your opinion) were the most helpful? I suppose a lot depends on what type of language learner you are, but it would be nice to hear from each of you , though Ben may not have needed that! On to the rock wall, glad you’ve gotten it resolved with the company that did the “work” so far. Do you think their work compromised the wall? Hoping you’ll get another company soon to finish the job the way it should have been done the first time! Take care, hugs to Chloe, and can’t wait for the next video Sunday! Xx

No place is perfect. You always have things you don't like. France can be a frustrating place at times. Can't complain about the food, though. Whenever I walk into the bank, or post office, or anywhere for business, I am helped right away here in the US, and that has never been the case in other countries where I've lived.
@aliciabaylina6275 I was in Paris, then in a small town in Spain. Here in the States, even in the Courthouse there's never a line. One time in Paris, I went into a fabric store. I asked if they had patterns. The woman said that at 11:00 there would be patterns. I walked around choosing fabric for half an hour, then from under the counter she took out a pattern book. I've never figured that one out. Another thing that annoyed me was that they wanted you to order what you wanted to eat and pay on the way in. How do you know what you want before you see it? You would buy more the other way. Also in boutiques they want you to tell them what you want rather than let you look around. I liked it there, but there are some odd things.
@@JanePilkington So maybe Europe isn’t for you? I embrace the cultural differences…But it can be challenging at times. I’ve just learned to roll with the punches. I am so glad you have resolved the issue with Mr Smug 🎉 I hope you do not mind me asking, but in a previous video you showed the cause of the original crevasse (street drainage and swimming pools etc from the housing estate above). I was just wondering had anything more been done to permanently resolve this so that the cliff doesn’t continue to erode and another crevasse appear in its place ? Apologies if you have covered this already, I have watched all of your wonderful videos but may have missed it ❤
They have repaired a wall that keeps the overflowing water from coming down my cliff, but they haven't solved the issue of the overflowing water during rain events. Sigh.
France is very different because of the stone walls that need to breathe. Plastic traps moisture. Bruce is Canadian, as am I, so we are well versed. Building here is quite different.
Hi Abby. I would love to come to your retreat and move to France if at all possible, Especially now as I watch the beginning of the end of our democracy in his planning stages. I feel like I am in mourning and terrifyingly stuck here now. I think I missed my chance as I am 72 and can no longer walk. I have always been politically active but am now bone tired and just feel I am done. So I will continue to watch your vlog and enjoy your journey as I have been doing since your start. I read your book and am so happy that you are there as you so deserve it. Take care and keep us posted on little Chloe ❤❤❤
You obviously know nothing about "The new world order" that my dear, would've been the end of your "democracy" even though we are a constitutional republic. You can thank the Overwhelming amount of smart people who voted Against communism in America later. When you figure out what's really been happening.
Firstly America is a republic and secondly millions of people exercized their right to vote with the winning candidate getting the majority vote. How is that the end of democracy? Over half the population had their voice heard, that’s the definition of democracy.
Kathy, I'm sorry you're feeling stuck. It's been a difficult decade of politics and upheaval on both sides. I like to hope that kindness will eventually win out. @@chateauchronicles So sad to see you being political, I am a staunch Republican and have enjoyed your channel. Please don't make your channel a Hate Trump forum. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way
I watch the weekly videos for inspiration about living life in another country with all its ups and downs. I appreciate seeing the progress you make in transforming what was a neglected and run down property into a charming residence and I’m interested in watching you build retreats mostly for the arts to offer people an opportunity to explore process. I just don’t understand why there needs to be implied political jabs regarding the current US election result as a reason to take your next retreat and learn how to leave the US. It’s unfortunate that a small group of individuals (just based on the election result numbers) have such resentment towards Trump. It seems they don’t really know why they feel that way because when pressed for reasons they either have none or they are repeating false accusations generated by legacy media and all its biases. I love what you are doing and have done but knowing that you are closed minded on this topic tells me that taking a retreat with you is going to be limited by your own prejudices and personal limitations. Yes, you are entitled to your own opinion but either back it up with factual statements if you want to bring it out into the open and allow for dialogue to go back and forth OR from a business perspective its probably better to keep those personal opinions to yourself and not taint the retreats with this type of energy.
As I said above, I wasn't trying to be political, just picking up on sentiments across the board. I would have said the same thing if the election had gone the other way. I'm here for kindness and acceptance and building community, not tearing it down.
Interesting how a civics class in France is cool but in America it’s racist …. I’m hoping this mindset is on its way out - your retreat sounds like a great idea !
Abby, have you thought of using foil insulation or insulated plasterboard for the ceiling? It would cover the current insulation gap problem while retaining ceiling height and the depth of visible beams. And you would only need board fixings. I’ve seen the use of insulated plasterboard on the Escape to the Dream site. It’s plasterboard with a black coating on the back.
Probably a better environmental approach rather than the usual USA approach of plastic, plastic and other harmful materials. I know some people don’t care about that which is obvious from the recent election but others choose to have some regard for the facts.
So hard for you to live on a mountain slope with the risk of water and boulders. Nice to see and hear but......can't you go to an optician and fix the happy eyes so you don't have to put them up all the time?
Just noticing that your glasses seem to bother you. Maybe a lighter pair., Would fit you better. I don’t know if that’s too personal or not , don’t mean to offend you. Watch you a lot like your show.😊
Maybe it would be wise if one would honestly delve into the facts of 9-11 before childishly insinuating that the democratic right to vote of 74 million “fellow” Americans turned a good country unlivable. You live in an arrogant bubble of your own opinion when you do so. I did not find the bullying tactic, with lawyer in tow, so funny or commendable. It should have been unnecessary if the contract one would have signed for specified work and specified end result was in existence, which should have been insisted upon and obtained prior to any job proceeding. Never saw wonderful Tomas look so “not into it”. I may be wrong, but I doubt the American democratic process of voting was the cause. By the way, you have not truly left any country when you still have your feet planted conveniently in both, and both solely for your benefit and that of your own. Now your Retreat is being used as a sales pitch for other woeful Americans who preach for democracy and personal rights but do not truthfully live it when they offensively renounce it for their fellow Americans. I still respect your effort in manifesting the vision you had for this Chateau and mostly because it is of natural beauty to the soul and environment. May Chloe thrive always in joy wherever the path winds.

@@kathyeyesopen4078 I have found Abby's videos, and the sharing of bits of her life, beautiful and heartfelt; I have shared at times some of them on other platforms. However, I do not live or understand life through a monocular lens and I refuse to do so, which also includes detesting the idea of needing to fit into a niche to participate in all aspects of someone's varied presentation. I have never gotten the impression that Chateau Chronicles demands this, which is a good thing. If you wish to not look further than your nose, so be it, but don't think that the attitude you align with is one which will ever empower people with truth, as a majority all over the world has already come to realize what it is about. Yes, I am sensitive enough to know an uncalled for innuendo when I hear one, but this does not take away from anyone's freedom to suggest it whenever they wish. There was nothing "cruel" about anything I expressed. If the mere mention of something by date, when you understand enough of the maniacal truth of its event and which concerns the world at large, sparks you to label it as "cruel" if uttered, then you have no respect for the hard truth, let alone the humanity which depends on it. Those who have been the most closely affected by it would be the first ones I would hope know the whole truth at some point soon; my intention is never careless. No election should need to turn into a battleground of sorts , but this is mostly the fault of the media and those who don't question them but only make matters worse by mindlessly mimicking them. If you do not understand as yet the magnitude of what exists (this is not an overstatement) and what has existed over decades, or are not willing to admit it, that should not serve as a reason to silence others or suggest they remove themselves when they respectfully participate. If anyone has not afforded themselves the expanse of the internet and the bounty of opinions, facts, misinfo, and revelatory truths that can be known, by way of one's personal interest and effort, then they are the last people who should ever marginalize those who are open to it all, who then form a valid opinion based on the more honest conclusion it leads to, and who then choose to share it. Share it not to offend others or force others to agree, but to help others know something they may not have considered. Good luck to you.
When these channels become anti home country they lose me. You do need to prove you have money so you can't just move with no money and think you can get a job.

You’ve creatively begun your dream of offering retreats for those recovering from any number of issues…the US election being the latest. Applaud your efforts at designing useful workshops. Seems many have not really explored the real issues of why such a contentious election was happening in the first place. There are many people now in the US (a majority landslide will be revealed in the coming months) that are excited to participate in the workings of the USA as it puts priorities of health & wellness back in place with the new changes which will come to US (& world-wide) through the implementation of NESARA/GESARA….ie Med Beds, organic foods, support for local farmers, no chemtrails in the skies, choice in education, no taxes, free energy, free hookups to Starlink, plus others….many of the things that France has cared about for centuries. It’s an exciting time to be alive as common sense changes are coming. Helping people make these changes no matter what country is an admirable endeavor. So it sounds like a lovely time.
Yes, all the stories are so individual, but there is wisdom learned from all.
Happy Chloe is hanging in there. I'm sure you'll have lots of interest in the upcoming retreat. Timing couldn't be better. Our family is looking at Mexico.😊
What a great idea organize such a useful retreat. There are so many things to learn about France and the way things are organized. To immigrate is an act to make consciously that has many consequences.
We will move to France next April and we also get help in that process, even though we just come from The Netherlands, so not far at all.
Praying for Chloé!
Most deffinatley we all need Chloe up dates
You look fabulous Abby! Love this retreat idea 💜

Abby, none of there hateful comments stating you’re being “political” make sense. I viewed an innocuous vlog. Not sure what they think they watched.

It doesn’t make sense to you because you agree with her politics, it’s kind of how bias blindness works.

Yes, we'll see about the overkill aspect, though I suppose I will never really know. Haha. Maybe I won't have to heat it at all!
I love your videos💖💖
The retreat sounds amazing, I’m absolutely ready to move. My block is traveling, I’ve been sheltered and need someone to 100% order me around.

Have you seen some of the other channels of Americans in France like Journey to the chateaux, the Scotters, chateau de la Grifferay, Growing in France, Ohio to Bordeaux etc
The Scotters are English and they moved to Portugal not France
Yes, I've watched several and did so before I decided to come to France. They were all very inspiring.
Xx
Abby grew up in Canada I believe and we are taught french throughout school.

No place is perfect. You always have things you don't like. France can be a frustrating place at times. Can't complain about the food, though. Whenever I walk into the bank, or post office, or anywhere for business, I am helped right away here in the US, and that has never been the case in other countries where I've lived.

It’s been my experience here in France. My poste lady Magaly is wonderful. I haven’t had to your experience. Sorry you’ve had those
@aliciabaylina6275 I was in Paris, then in a small town in Spain.
But when friends visit from the states the ugh don’t understand my military schedule I’d knees under table by 12:30 or you don’t EAT, unless it’s McDonald’s until 7:30.

Sigh.

Maybe the trick is to do small acts of kindness and find joy in the little things. I hope my vlog offers a little of that for you. Hugs. 🤗

@@patsgwpsYou're absolutely right. It's sad that they use this channel for political purposes. USA is a beautiful country. I love it.
Bonjour
I wonder if $750k Canadian is enough to live in France
It's bizarre that you need 16" of insulation in the roof!...In the US an R30 only takes up 8"....that insulation must have a crappy R value.
We went with an environmentally sustainable solution. There's always trade offs.
Probably a better environmental approach rather than the usual USA approach of plastic, plastic and other harmful materials. I know some people don’t care about that which is obvious from the recent election but others choose to have some regard for the facts.

Wow! Really? FYI Abby has been arranging retreats for numerous topics for 2 years now. Grow up and if you don’t like it just don’t watch! No need for all this political garbage to destroy something not inherently political! Go back to your numerous right wing blogs and declare your love of your master and leave the rest of us be.
