I have a '67 GMC Schoolie 34 footer that I started converting, but life got in the way. It has a 351 V-6 with oil bath air filter. Drove it from L.A. to Oregon & back. Found out it wasn't really geared for the highway. Good times.

I'm jealous. Enjoy.

Ok. I watched it again and noticed you did tap the tow truck gently. Dident hurt either!👍😀
Biggest thing killing these old buses off was the scrap metal bubble in the early 2000's, second are kids busting all the windows out.
Great find!!
My family had a converted 1962 GMC school bus when I was little. It was repowered with a 396. I believe it had a Blue Bird body on it, I was 12 when my parents sold it.
I grew up in Lima, Ohio and remember in those years Superior Coach workers would drive the truck front & bare chassis around town, sitting on a wood crate, smoking cigars; before adding the School buses body... !! ;)
Great memories! Thanks for stopping by Mr. Goodpliers!
Glad you saved her, hope she finds a caring new owner.
Neat looking bus. Growing up we had a 65 GMC bus that my step-dad converted to a camper. It had that big V6 in it and had the Carpenter bus body. We had a lot of good times in it.
I appreciate your lifestyle, being able to earn a living doing what you like.
Old cars(:
I'm happy now. I saw a 58 Buick. and about a 53 or a.54 Pontiac 2.. I used to have a 66 Pontiac Bonneville Hearse Ambulance. That was built by Superior . Ownd it 22 years.
54 Pontiac
I like it. Show's ingenuity from someone who had a vision of what this old bus could be. Hmmm.... It is nicely laid out so you could actually live in it after you fixed it up and not have to pay rent anymore. Neat.
GMC had a 6 cylinder engine that was called the Big 6. It was big. Looked like small V8. God bless you like stock. Your my hero.
GMC was the first to have a V6 it even had the V12 it was two V6 engines put together here is a video of one running ua-cam.com/video/vtfPFLQMbUM/v-deo.html
@@79tazman ... if I recall correctly that V-6 was a 348 with 2 cyls chopped off. Basically 300 cubes and maybe 200 HP, but enough torque and gears to make the thing move at least 60 mph. We had these things in my neighborhood back then.
There were lots of V6 displacements. I don't think they shared anything with the 348, you might be thinking of the small block Chevrolet V8 and the 4.3 V6
And I agree, stock stuff rules
@@dogandballproductionsgoodb7215... I stand corrected. Per a Wiki on this engine... V6 big block engines were produced in 305, 351, 401 and 478 cubic-inch... they shared many parts including a V-12 version. The last time I saw a V-12 was in a fire truck. It was a monster of a gas engine to look at!
New bus winner
Seeing ng you flat two brought back memories. My dad and I used to flat tow. Can't flat tow anymore. Illegal.
You must have a 59 El Comino out there some where. Show us that... The coolest Car/Truck ever...
None here at this time. The '59 Chevrolet was an iconic design!
I would have thought youd've ran the chain through a pipe,or put it in gear and held the clutch down. Looks like its pretty clean. I dig it!
We did, but the bus was so heavy and had enough momentum that it bent the pipe! It was unfortunately a hydraulic clutch, which, as can be imagined, was in the same condition as the hydraulic brakes after sitting all those years.
So far, so great! Fun!
Ur smart! Picking what is gonna worth big $$ down the line
It ain't so smart giving money away for sumpthin "abandoned in the woods" Musta drank outta the birdbath as a youngster That wasnt no fancy drinking fountian ...
Well thats something different/ maybe some diesel down the spark plug holes or ATF perhaps and leave a while = If Its In It run it maybe.. A few years ago i went with a neighbour to buy an old bus very much the same sized of this school bus , that too had been converted Into a motor home, been on a farm, had farmworkers living in it.. It ran powered by a 2 litre pinto engine 4 speed truck gear box, so my neighbour said I`ll drive it home, some 140 miles, so I followed in his car.. Now we were both retired he being older than me so I noticed after about 100 miles he was slowing down for round abouts really early - thought maybe he was tired.. The nearer we got to our home town he was driving a lot slower still.. We got home, he backed this big old blue bus camper in his driveway and the guy got out, shaking but laughing, so I asked Whats up bud ? - he just calmly replied - HAD NO BRAKES the last 50 or so miles so used the gears and hand brake to slow down.... LOL Yes that was my old neighbour bless him, restorer of classic cars and a few buses/ Over the next few months he done everything that needed doing to the mechanical bits, took off the very heavy tail lift (was a disabled bus) refitted the insides cleaned up the outside, a bit of fresh paint where needed, then with his wife went touring the UK and Ireland for a month or more just meeting up with his old work buddies from when they were building motorways = thus lots now living back in Ireland.. Bless him, miss the old feller always telling me funny stories of life building and sleeping on site road building.. gone to where all the old road builders go eventually.. Oh I`m 72 and he was a few years older than me.. Keep safe all no matter what you do or where you live eh - Ian -- UK.
Welldone mate!👍
Thanks! 👍
Rode a 1960 Chevy Wayne bus to school when I was a kid
Awesome!
Great find guys!
We had a 64 Ford Superior coach bus for 11 years which we made into a camper. Since then we've had 2 motorhomes and a travel trailer and guess what. . . The bus had the only roof that never leaked! Cool video!
Straight 6 or V8?
@@bobbyheffley4955 292 V8. It got 10 mpg which was better than my family car (a 350 Chevy Blazer). It was also fun to drive - good times!
Good job
Thanks, it was a fun little adventure!
The rust bunny loves the hoods on those old Chevy 🚛🚒 trucks !
I think that's a 305 V6. They ran pretty good. My dad had one. Built for low end power.
Yeah its crazy they put a 5 liter v6 in something like that.hills have to be fun😁
I was 14 or 15 raced my buddy had an old Ford with a 390 all stock engines. He could only beat me by 1 car length! That was 40yrs ago! My dad would shoot me if he knew that, ha!
Cue partridge family intro
I'll admit it did play in my head the first time I saw this bus!
@@mr.goodpliers6988 wood be so cool to recreate that paint scene modeled after some pop artist from 60s
The Partridge Family bus was a 1957 Chevrolet, and I have a model of it. I read that the actual bus still exists today.
I wonder if that bus made it to Woodstock with all the hippies lol
Is that danny bonafuce and shirley jones????
Another awesome Vid
Man ,If that bus could talk. :)Keep the curtains and TV
I'm surprised you didn't try to buy that '48 International school bus that was customized from Silas for $1500. If I had known about it, I would have gone 1,300 miles there to get it.
Fun time 🍺👍🏼
thanks for the video was interesting hope somebody buys that bus and fixes it up..
hey at least the bedroom in the back has a balcony! i'm sure this entire thing will clean up nicely with enough effort.
I agree, it's a good solid bus that will be a unique vehicle to rehab so it can see the road again!
It needs a good wash, and interior vacc as well as a good soak with bad odor remover. Remove all the glass, fixtures, steering wheel and seats. Remove, and wash all the light panels, plastic and "leather" seats or whatever they are made of. Air-blast and clean those appliance-fixtures, as well. The fridge [ may need a cylinder / compressor check ] and stove will need the heating element, electricals and fuse box-wiring checked.
From . Idaho never saw one like this. ..land bus.hara
If that was in Newfoundland I would live in it.
I know where there's a 61 with a super nice looking 70s era conversion in it, sitting in the woods... 400$.
Cool!
@@mr.goodpliers6988 Would have cost me 2K in towing so let it pass. Probably would have been worth it even with the towing.
Partridge family
I thought that exact same thing the first time I saw this bus!
Wow! Where do I start, with 30 years in the R.V. business I've worked on or modified old busses. You got a good project there, it would be some work. It's no longer original so drop in a 454 with automatic transmission, you will be miles ahead for reliability and maintenance. Go with desert radiator and transmission and engine oil coolers with twin electric fans.👍❤🇺🇸
There's a good chance this bus could see the road again. For now it is resting at the Rust Ranch, waiting for that time...
Cool
I would love to have that bus I would make it go again if it is not too much
As of now, it is still available as far as I know. I didn't add Joe's email address to this video, but it is in the "Rust Ranch" videos at 0:42
You need to run your chain thru a length of pipe and fasten it tight, Then as long as you keep the pipe relatively straight you wil not run into the tow vehicle.
We did that but our pipe was better suited to a car, not a bus. Bent in half on the first turn unfortunately
That thing is cool as hell! The inside could be cleaned out real good, replace the paneling by the driver, counter tops, curtains and carpets and you've got a cool camper, The toilet and stove and any other appliances would be an issue I'm sure. As far as the drive train goes the possibilities are endless!, Did you buy the truck with the cab removed from it? It looked to be the same basic truck that the bus was built out of only shorter.
Good luck! Been there, done that day it won’t happen again. Ours was a bit better and a fairly recent conversion even 60 Chevy, 44 passenger (maybe a little shorter than this one). Blue and silver. Put less than 5,000mi on it with some sort of problem every time out. Brakes were the last straw. It’s permanently parked beside the Alabama river now.
That's the way it goes sometimes, you start out with good intentions and end up down a rabbit hole. I guess that's why some of these guys like putting them on modern frames, but that can breed its own set of headaches too...
Man I would so live in that of course after a good cleaning
Ok, I'm really confused. I believe you pulled it with a chain. With no transmission or brakes, how in the world did you manage to keep from plowing in to the tow truck when ever it stopped or slowed!!?? Was there a towbar I dident see? You guys were moving along at a pretty good clip!🤯😮
I bet it will really shine after a pressure washer clean up
Not only is it a crowned steel roof, but galvanized steel in the bargain if im not mistaken
I would believe that. The entire bus has a look of quality construction to it.
You should do some cleaning up on it
That would of been the time to see kids waiting for the bus for school then stop. 😆
HAHAHAHA!!
LOL 😆🤣
Que hermosura de bus , los americanos tienen buen gusto
I like my stuff stock to
It's not the only way, but it is the best way!
Looks like a bit of cedar paneling inside.
The engine may have originally been mounted in the rear access panel, unless it's been welded or bolted shut.
That in texas looks just like one I seen forsale
Hopefully the guy paid him to take it .cause the buildings inspector won't be laughing when he sees THAT .🤗🌟
Love your videos! What did you do with the power wagon tow truck?
A friend of mine bought it. He plans to get it running, keep it in his collection and use it around his property. Thanks for stopping by Mr. Goodpliers!
Nice save! Did you find any Partridge Family records in it?
they should restore it
Are you going to get it started?
There's ghost in the bus😆
I think brakes were optional that year
That front clip is worth more than the whole bus
what did the mustang bring at the sale??
This could only work in "flat" Kansas!
Swap in 3t0 4 speed trans and hydrovac brakes
First vid I’ve seen. How much effort will you put into this before you flip it. It’s kinda cool project.
Thanks for stopping by Mr. Goodpliers! We do general cleanup, and occasionally attempt to start them if the engine is free. And, if they need it, free stuck brakes and put on tires that hold air.
@@mr.goodpliers6988 : Hell you practically rebuild it. Thanks for your answer.
Where's the bus now?
It's at Joe's Rust Ranch. You can reach him at rustranchkansas@gmail.com
Ware r yall located I am looking for a few things
We are near Wichita Kansas. I just completed a series of four "Rust Ranch" videos that show each vehicle in the group of cars and trucks you see at the end of that video!
Ok
What size V6 is that? They came in 305 on up
Yup. With the old oil bath air filters that year, I think
It looks like the Grateful Dead" bus, that RRR of Gas monkey SOLD for $50K......
1960 bus now but nice 🙂👍🏻 free?
He bid for it on an estate auction
He Man steering
Update..Where's the bus?
GMC create motor jegs cut back off inverter
If it was in fact “abandoned” how come you had to pay somebody??
It could have been abandoned on someone’s land and they sold it or it could also mean the owner parked it and left it and eventually sold it
I think they bought it at an estate auction
Wasn't there a door on the bus at first
Yes, it broke apart so we removed it for travel.
Do you have any 1067 Plymouth belvedere 2dr part's car's
Only a 1967 Coronet at this time.
What kind of shape is it in
What the price of it
Ls swaped school bus
You didn't have to pay anything for it did you?
It was bought at auction the weekend prior. Everything on the place was sold and dispersed to new owners!
Why?
60 year old bus... obviously not for everyone, but it has survived long enough in rebuildable condition that someone is going to want it!
Almost got tossed of my old parts tractor. Old ford. Flat spot pretty bad
I can imagine... a truck or bus has some give to the suspension, but a tractor is just limited to what the tires will absorb.
Needs body work, needs frame work, needs engine repairs, just about everything it needs
That bus is solid!
No phone
Is that legal to tow like that ? cops there dont care ?
Um yea...lol!!What cops?Lol
If you bought it...it wasn't Abandoned.
Yeah, the "A" word is not a perfect term, but it is the most commonly searchable word for something of this type, so even though not perfect, it is a preferable term. Everything is owned by someone, somewhere. In this case the vehicle was sold by the heirs at an estate auction, where we purchased it.
Needs a bath
That's on the list one day, to have a power washer out at the Rust Ranch!
I will give you 100 bucks if you tow it you my house
If you're within 20 miles we can do that LOL
So,as per thumb nail,if the bus is abandoned in the woods...why do you need to buy it ?????????
We purchased it at an estate auction.
Abandoned is probably more of a keyword/search term, not necessarily a purely descriptive word
Cool
