    The wood transom you pulled out--the splitting is in the layers of wood that had the grain perpendicular to the water. Picture each layer as a stack of straws all pointing the same way (and 90 degrees to the neighboring layer): the layers with end grain into the water pull the water up and split; the layers parallel to the water don't pull the water in as well.

    One tip with aluminum is to spray it with wd-40. Its soft stuff so when doing fitup or wedging it in etc...a little lube goes a long way. Also when you cutting plate with a metal circ saw, spray some wd 40 on the fence and see how much easier it is to cut.

    Been building my boat with suplies from your website...the new aluminum transom wasnt an option when i was doing mine, wish it was but missed it by a month...anyway, you used fiberglass resin on your wood transom rite? I bought west marine epoxy resin and did three coats on it. I purchased the plywood alil under size and made up the difference with the epoxy...i wish this was a option then but i think i should be ok. Thanks for what you do!

      @@TinyBoatNation I know lol. I just think it would be funny to see a really small boat throwing a rooster tail. But it wouldn’t be safe for me or the boat. My 15 horse gets me where I need to go fast enough. How long is your boat you put the 60 on?

    what are peoples thoughts if a guy was to make a simular aluminum sandwich filled with pour in transom then cut to fit . still no wood inside to rot but making the surface 100% solid from edge to edge.

    I wanna get aluminum trans for my starcraft boat and cause I want to recover my boat with four stroke with Same amount of horses but would be little more heavier than my 93 110 hp johnson outboard motor it's great motor bjt I noticed it using a bit more fuel than my brother boat and he has 40 more horses and his more boat weighs more

    I had no idea they even made all aluminum transoms. I am currently in the process of making my own all aluminum transom for my boat and ran across your video. I was looking at seacast to just pour mine in bc it would be so much quicker, but my boat doesn't have an inner and outer transom skin .
    Just curious, what company makes those all aluminum transom ?

  • @logan2244

    Did you put transom on backwards?? It said front in marker on the rear facing side??

  • @tripplebeards3427

    The wood was rotting from being wet. If you would have spent $20 on fiberglass resin and applied a couple coats over the wood it would have lasted for decades.

    • @TinyBoatNation
      @TinyBoatNation  8 місяців тому

      No, it won’t. Resin cracks and degrades with wave shutter. Resin coating wood doesn’t make it any better, it just makes it less prone to corroding the aluminum and will increase the life of the transom, but the transom will eventually go, because what is organically prone to degrade.

      @@TinyBoatNation then how did mine that I did with wood and fiberglass resin in 1991 last till this past fall? I put my boat in every spring and leave it docked in the water till fall...lasted 32 years. Probably would have lasted longer if my automatic bulge pump failed. It sat submerged for a week a couple times.

    You work hard, but learn from your previous mistakes and get away from drilling so many holes and using all the rivets and screws. They weaken and leak like hell. What happened to that welder a subscriber gave you a while back?
