    I’ve got the same exact tried and true set up. You might try a step aider under the bottom stick to gain a few more feet. I just girth hitch a SRD (suspension relief device which is an adjustable, looped strap) around my boot. The adjustable buckle makes it easier to get my boot up high on the step so I can basically hang my bottom stick almost as high as I can reach.

    Another buckle silencing trick is athletic wrist sweatbands. Easy on and very quiet.

    This might not be the right place to ask, but have you been doing any more scouting for Iowa. My brother and I will be hunting north east corner also and don't have much time to get out there. We are going out the second weekend of October for scouting/trophy doe hunt. Then back out at the end of the month for rut hunt. Any info you can pass along would be awesome, and we will do the same.

      BlueWidow2010 I haven’t been back since Spring. Not sure I’ll be back at all before mid or late October.

    I was about to say check out Tethrd Versa Strap. Those are some awesome straps. But i’m sure LW wouldn’t be happy about that lol

      I've used Verastrap-style straps or ropes in the past, and the issue I always had was getting them around trees that are too big for me to reach my arms around. The added weight of the buckle makes it easy to toss the strap to yourself. Without that weight, I always seemed to struggle to get the strap around the tree.

      Been there and done that. Not only what Justin said, but they’re slower to install and less secure.

    You should look into using a aider to space your sticks out 7 feet. You can achieve 21 feet to the top of your third stick.

    • @justinzarr7877
      @justinzarr7877 5 років тому

      You mean 7 feet in between sticks? Seems like a lot, even with an aider.

      With 32” Lone Wolf staggered step sticks, (which I have gone back to from Hawk Helium’s) a step aider is really only worth the trouble at ground level. It’s because you really have to stretch to reach to hang the next stick high enough to make the aider of any use. I’ve found them to more for getting higher with mini sticks, and the double steps really helps to reach higher as well. Just more monkey business to slow you down and more fatiguing, though, because you’re leaning back into a linesman belt the whole time with the double steps.

    Maybe an odd question but why not just use a climber? Like I have 2 lock on I leave in the woods and then have a Summit climber for any type of run and gun setup or areas I scout during season where I dont want to make alot of disturbances by setting up a lock on during bow season

    • @midwest8six607

      Robert Walters might be because of limitations. I was torn between getting a climber, and hang on. I went with gang on for more flexibility.

      @@midwest8six607 I can understand that, sometimes finding the right tree to climb is a bit of a hassle

    • @midwest8six607
      @midwest8six607 5 років тому

      Robert Walters yeah, i was about to get a Xop climber. Then i got to thinking. To me a climber wouldn’t be as flexible lol
      I had a summit viper for awhile. That thing was so damn comfy. If there was any wind. I’d get rocked to sleep like a baby lol

      Here in IL where I hunt maybe 10-20% of the trees I hunt from are climber friendly. We just don’t have many straight, limbless trees around.

    What do you do with the tree stand straps ?

    • @bowhuntordie
      @bowhuntordie  4 роки тому +1

      I wrap the buckles with the same material that I use on the sticks. Outside of that, you don't need to do anything else to the straps.

    • @ironmen23
      @ironmen23 4 роки тому

    • @bowhuntordie
      @bowhuntordie  4 роки тому +1

      @@ironmen23 You can see how they're attached to the sticks right here at 6:06. They're basically attached to the versa button and wrapped around one end of the stick.
