Hi Gem! Thank you so much for creating this wonderful coloring video of the Great Horned Owl from my coloring book "Intricate Ink Animals in Detail Volume 1" You do amazing work and it's an honor to have you share you inspiring grayscale colorings with everyone. Grayscale is so easy to do once people give it a try, and it's nice to see you inspiring others to do it. My motto is "Once you start coloring grayscale, you won't be able to stop!" I'm looking forward to watching many more creative and beautiful coloring on your channel!
Hello Tim, and welcome to the Cave! Overjoyed to have you saunter in and leave a comment - we'll convert all of our colourists to grayscale eventually 😉
This is a wonderful video and colouring of the Great Horned Owl from Intricate Ink and love watching it! Thanks so much for joining Tim Jeffs colouring group too!!
I LOVE my black widows! So much that after trying them, I ordered them all. AND they have a new set coming out! I love that book as well! What an amazing artist, Thank you Gem, great video as always! And hitting the like button is the first thing I do after clicking the video so I never forget! Hugs from NS 💖
He is absolutely gorgeous! Love the colours on this owl :) and... I actually pick my colouring books the same way. If I like the pictures inside I can always imagine myself colouring them and so I get the book. I also own a couple of colouring magazines because they have really beautiful images inside. Sadly I know I can't get them all, because I'd be drowing in stuff to colour and I'll never actually colour all of it in, haha! But... I think I'll get out my trusted Polychromos and start something today, too. I just feel like it. Also very interested in getting the Black Widow pencils myself... but I have so much art stuff already! xD I drew a Bald Eagle for my ScrawlrChallenge and I find they look just as angry as owls! I think that look is a bird thing :)
Lovely truly lovely! I seem to be reminded every time you start a new coloring page of my cousins, they would visit in the summertime down from Oregon and they brought very fancy books and crayons and color pencils, botanical drawings and fantasy drawings that I know their mom got them from the “art shops” she frequented. I usually just had crayola and superhero coloring books. The quality of their pictures were so far above my pages! I will say my jealousy fueled my artistic drive and I worked so much more to try to make my pictures better! You are truly a wonderful artist and talented person. Thank you for sharing your art journey with us.
Big fan of Black Widow pencils, especially the skin tone sets, can't wait to get my hands on the new Monarch set when it comes out later this month, looks like it has some gorgeous pastels in it. Fab colouring as ever, not a book I'd have looked at before but I might now be tempted as I loved the quick peek through as you found the owl! Also yes to the pencil case storage! Mine are also still in set order not colour order 😁 Also, like you, I have to like the artwork to want to colour it in. One of the reasons why I like the Colouring Heaven magazine is that it's introducing me to loads of new artists that I might not have picked up before.
Wonderful! Thank you! I've not ever tried grey scale. I don't know why, but it intimidates me a wee bit. I enjoyed watching you do it tho! Blessings xo
Good Morning Gem, my husband and I have watched your latest video 📹 of you colouring the wise old owl and we loved the colours you used, the owl looked very life like, Thank you Gem for another fantastic video From Kate in the south East of England x
I just found your profile and I’m so intrigued! I love Tim Jeff’s artistry and just got the latest 48 collection of Black Widow pencils to complete my set. And to ramble on, I always always start with the eyes on every picture, and if it’s just floral I start with the yellow centres and then working into the flowers. Just going to enjoy your artistry and thankful I found you! ❤️🎨❤️
Welcome! There are well over 300 videos on the channel now, although not all colouring-related, but hopefully you will find some of them helpful and fun. Thanks for stopping by to comment 😊
🦉🦉🦉 I pick coloring books the same way. Always lead by my heart! This book is now on my shopping list. Beautiful! Have all those pencils in my cart on Amazon. Plus about $ 1000 dollars worth of other art supplies. My husband is starting to give me the hairy eyeball. Since February I've probably spent about a thousand bucks. Jeeeeez!
Loving the owl, beautifully done. Thank you for introducing me to Tim's wonderful work too Gem. I have gotten into greyscale more and more since I coloured in some drawings of Emmanuelle Colin and just bought some works by Anastasia Elly Koldareva. You can put your heart and soul into a greyscale drawing and get such stunning results. I must admit, I agree it's more about the art work than the fact you can just colour in a page in a book. Been a artist all my life, but due to illness, I don't have the stammering to do 10+ hour stints anymore, like I used to do LOL. I would like to try inktense on the greyscale drawings, just got into inktense and LOVING THEM. Going to go look at more videos :) Thanks Gem xXx
Love your "huhuuuu". I do love Tim Jeffs books. And its more because of the art, then the need to color every page. I'm just stunned by the details and the art really. I'v also used them for watercoloring and as refrence's for my own drawings. (Or attempt on drawings) For me, I think Black Widow pencils are good allround pencils. They seam to work on most papers. :D
I just bought my first polychromos pencils because of your influence. Buying the red backs would have been potentially cheaper as they are an Australian brand but I decided against them as they are only readily available on Amazon, which was disappointing. So the polychromos and Derwent Artists will be used with my watercolours and inks. Cheers
I was thinking he was looking over his shoulder too. You're converting me to trying greyscale colouring as well...I've always avoided it but you're right - you get a great result! And the tip about the brush...cool! I also choose colouring books that I like to look at - I've been given a couple by a friend which I've found it hard to get going with, and that may be because I didn't choose them. I think I'll use them as experiments for learning techniques, and then it doesn't matter as much if I mess them up...
Yay! Glad it was helpful - I do have a few videos colouring greyscale, this one might be helpful too, as I do more explaining in it: ua-cam.com/video/DzZlFVcxO6k/v-deo.html
Stumbled upon your video when searching for coloring videos using Black Widows, as they're my favorite pencil. 5 minutes into watching you color, and I was hooked. I hit that subscribe button, and will watch others on your channel eagerly! Just lovely work!
Love it, I have one of his books on my wish list, where I’ve been sooo tired and stagnant lately with my fibromyalgia I’m putting off buying more until I get some more pictures done or at least one in each book I own before I allow myself to buy more books lol
This is beautiful Gem my take on the picture is the bit to the right side is his tummy , it’s hard to tell.but it doesn’t really matter does it your so cleaver he is such a handsome boy.
A warm welcome! I may treat myself to another volume if I finish the first. A lot of books seem to be out of stock at the moment. Hopefully it will become available again soon. Have you got volume 5?
@@TheColourCave oh my gosh I didn't know hes done a fifth one. I'll have to check it out. I haven't actually coloured any of these pictures in yet. I'm abit nervous, I've never done a grey scale picture before. That's why I'm so happy I found you
So regal! Owls are amazing...no unnecessary movement, piercing eyes, and beauty. What's not to love? What was the story behind the tractor fire? Did you find the worker okay?
He is beautiful! I have a non-related question for you. In the comments on one of your videos you talked about all the animals that have a 4 chamber stomach, don’t deer have a 4 chamber stomach as well? Just curious, thanks.....😊
Deer do indeed. There are plenty of animals that have the same digestive tract, I just didn't list them all I don't think (I only vaguely remember that conversation!)
Hard to believe how quickly that came together. I think that if you draw back from the owl that it's sitting right wing forward and that part at the right is his breast. But that doesn't quite work either. Still turned out lovely. BTW you didn't tell us about the shed fire result! Is everything OK?
I still can't figure out which way he's facing.... he looks ok though! The fire... yes, the machinery that caught is an insurance write off, there's nothing left of it - no other problems - the shed is fine and said employee is unscathed, just a little rattled. The fire service were awesome.
He is magnificent💕 Does anyone else kinda lose their "arting" mojo? And if so how does it come back? It's making me more depressed that I can't color beautiful pages. Sigh!
I lose it too, and I’ve learnt not to force myself as it just gets my anxieties up. So, I just take it in stride, spend my time either just binge watching a tv show or playing on the iPad with the pigment app and Apple Pencil to try and just keep my brain in the “colour world”. And sometimes even just flipping through Pinterest or Instagram sometimes something will catch my eye and give me inspiration. Just go with the flow and your artistic mind will bring you back when it’s ready. 🥰🎨🥰

I have this book ordered. Owls r my fav so thank you for doing this. Won me over.
I’d love to hear Mama Gem and Nana Gem chatting 😘
Beautiful colouring too xo

So realistic! It seems like the owl's head is turned about 160 degrees around, so her belly is on the left

That's gorgeous. I'm so 'type A' I'd colour in every individual white space, though. 😂
I always love all your videos. This coloring was great. I would be interested to see you color an image from the book with markers.
Wow! This turned out owlmazing haha okay I’ll stop now 😅 these coloured pencils look like they’d be super fun to use. Another awesome video gem 💕☺️
Beautiful! I am very new and bought my first coloring book which I now know is grayscale. I was wondering how to do it. Thank you, learned a lot!

I absolutely love these books. I have volumes 1, 2 & 3. Can't seem to get volume 4 in the UK anymore.

Go for it, it's some of the easiest and most pleasurable colouring you can have!

Kendra Iacouzze I have the same problem right now, I wish I knew how to get it back.....😔
You just have to start a new picture! You might not like it nor the end result but eventually you begin to enjoy creating again!
So, Go Do!
I'm having the same problem too. Been like it for 4 months now
