So Gregory wants to escape his reality of the gregory house, and so imagines leaving on a train. He imagines, or maybe inserts memories of when he first met a lot of the guests, into his fantasy. I guess really he's just having an existential crisis. I just find that really weird because he wasn't even the one shown to be playing with the train at the time all of this went on. Unless he's created some kind of tiny alternate reality playing on loop to watch and live vicariously. Idk. I'm gonna stop thinking about this now.
It seems even dubious entities that prey on people’s need to escape the hardships of reality, need a form of escapism of their own every once in a while.
An interesting thing to note. Gregory imagines escaping Gregory House, and when he does so he imagines himself being a much nicer person (although still a grouchy oldster), helping people and encouraging them. Generally being kinder. People use fantasy to escape reality and be and do things they never can for real. This indicates, somewhere within Gregory there actually IS a kind person and an earnest desire to help people, but he suppresses it, and only lets it out in his imaginary escapes. That he desperately wants to leave but for some reason can't. This is likely Mama's doing: It is more than likely that Gregory isn't really a willing participant in all this (hence his desire to escape) and is actually much kinder by nature than he seems (hence how he acts in his imaginary journey, where he can act however he wants) but his Mama keeps him here and forces him to be a part of her soulstealing hell hotel scheme and help break wandering souls and drive them mad to trap them. So to cope, he has wrapped himself in layer after layer of callous cruelty and jerkishness so he won't feel sorry for his victims or guilt for his actions anymore (which probably isn't working) and imagines escaping all the time, because he knows he's too terrified of his Mama to EVER actually defy her or actually leave. This makes me feel sorry for Gregory. He's a decent person trapped and forced into a hellish role, and it definitely tortures him. He's as much of a victim as any of his guests, and just like them there will NEVER be any end to it while Mama still lives. And since the whole point to all of it is keeping Mama alive... it's his eternal hell.
After watching the entire series, the game and the manga, I can say that The Last Train has the happiest ending; mainly it shows Gregory having the healthiest mindset out of all of the main characters. Yes, one of the main themes of Gregory Horror Show is that being stuck in your own fantasy is completely unhealthy. At the same time though, being in reality or constantly not giving breaks for oneself is why the guests became desperate enough for Gregory House in the first place. The 1st guest overworked himself, to the point of mental exhaustion. He was a 'workaholic', and he just snapped from the pressure. The 2nd guest felt like everything was an 'all or nothing' type of deal in terms of relationships. They focused and exhausted themselves to the brink of insanity. Gregory may be the only character that is able to make a healthy connection between reality and fiction. Yes, he acknowledges and accepts that he needs to stay in his reality as that is his role. He also accepts that he is pretty much sharing his house with his terrible mom and terrible grandson. At the same time, he knows that it is okay to just have a mental break. Have some time to yourself in your dream land to recharge and face reality again. Fiction allows us to accept reality, it gives us the hope and happiness to face the dreariness of the real world. Just don't stay in it too long or it becomes a nightmare. Long story short, Last Train is about Gregory getting a mental vacation to realign himself. Depression is a serious concern and doesn't make you a bad person for admitting you need time off. Just don't go to the point where snap.
People talk about how Gregory is a good person in Volume 3, but they seem to forget it was all his fantasy. It's just like Judgment Boy's tests: Gregory *imagines* & pretends he'd do nice kind things, but in reality Gregory would never act so decently!
Right! Also, he's not all good; examples: he eats the pig-man with no remorse; he encourages the fat chicken to pursue the job that he knows will get him killed; he manipulates the mouse traps to sit closer to each other; and these are just the worst things he did, in other smaller moments he's still kind of a jerk! I think people just look at the contrast between this volume and the previous ones and mistake the fact that he's comparatively nicer as him actually being a good person.
The fact that Gregory chooses to escape his reality by imagining being a much nicer person to people, tells you outright that there actually IS a nicer person somewhere inside him, but he feels he has to SUPPRESS it... that he can't BE that nicer person, so he can only imagine it. Which is probably Mama's doing; it is possible that she is MAKING him be a part of this soul-stealing horror hell, and just to cope he's buried himself in protective layers of callous cruelty to remain functional because he's too terrified of her to defy her, no matter HOW MUCH he wants to.
Well, at least _better_ than his real life counterpart. Remember, he did eat that that pig guy, as well as had no remorse for the fat chicken; but still, he is noticeably nicer. I'd like to think this is a version of Gregory that was suppressed long ago. Perhaps Gregory longs to go back to who he used to be before opening his little hotel of horrors. But who knows, really.
If there was another season. I would like to find out if the next guest goes to heaven or hell. Or a different ending because it could become over predictable if the same ending happens over and over again.
I would love a series that had episodes with longer runtimes. Not even necessarily a full 20 minutes, but like 5 to 10 minutes or something like that. It would allow for some of their mini story ideas to feel more fleshed out.
With this, I have watched all seasons of the Gregory Horror Show. Thanks to Mr Enter for reccomending this. And I know there is one more season, but everybody knows how bad that one is. But I will be back, sometime in the future.
This was probably my favourite season. It just gives me the fuzzies. It also shows that Greg's actually a good person, mouse, whatever. (Which I had suspected from the beginning.)
Well, not exactly. I think it shows that he has good qualities buried deep inside, but he still _chooses_ to be a bad person. I don't think being good "deep down" really justifies intentionally hurting others.
this was a good season it had some great episodes like the one with the bandit it had a great moral however one thing I have to take away is judgement boy was barely in it he is the best character hands down
Thanks for sharing volumes 1, 2, and 3 of the Gregory Horror Show. I never heard of the series or the game until a UA-cam mentioned that he would do a review on a couple of the episodes. I must say, this is a very weird show.
Um.... What!? So the train was James' toy the whole time? But the things that happened on the train happened for real? What? What? And what? Anyway, good volume overall. It really showed you a very different side of Gregory. A more pleasant and, dare I say, helpful side of him. It also show his descent into the madness we know today and how he ends up in Gregory house. I think. I dunno. This last ep was a complete and total mindfuck. I don't really know what, if anything, actually happened. I guess I'll spend the rest of my life pondering over the nature of Gregory and the world he resides in. What the actual fuck.
I agree. The first two were more focused on the psychological horror and escaping from the hotel. This one focuses more on the comedy and Gregory doing stuff. But it's still good.
Ok so he’s using the train to escape his reality, and the past couple of episodes were him overdoing it and realizing that he has to get back to reality. Really ties this in with the past 2 seasons!
So this entire time everything that happened didn't happen and we just experienced Gregory wigging the fuck out. Thats what i'm telling myself so I don't have to think about where this volume fits on the timeline and give myself a headache.
after watching all this om 1st volume to 3rd i gottta wonder a little is gregory really the bad in the whole thing or is he just a misunderstod good guy or maybe neither one this show as some very interesting moral and storys and is always going to be one of fave shows all time thank you for up loading it all
Gregory is not bad, he is a good person but his destination was this, he couldn't choose his path unless he tried to change the things or escape, he couldn't, he is trapped there because that's the unique thing he can do, obey his mama, or maybe not... If there was a new volume it will be only to show the real happy end of this terrible story. He is kust playing with the train that's why all the people of the train are the guests of the hotel (inclusive the protagonist of the first volume but i think that was a real memory).
This is very interesting indeed. The whole series looks like some parody of Silent Hill - very similar ideas (illusions, suffering, etc.), and usually the episodes are symbolic in some way. You could even trace some references to Buddhism, although I may be imagining thigs here. Because of the rather aphoristical nature of the entire series, it's hard to say something for certain, but I noticed that characters in the Last Train usually represent human weaknesses, people in vicious cycle.

Considering Gregory himself seems to be a manifestation of the thoughts of lost souls that in of itself is a serious mindscrew.
It seems even dubious entities that prey on people’s need to escape the hardships of reality, need a form of escapism of their own every once in a while.
...this is

and
gregory likes trains
I can see that becoming a meme

if that hotel ever enters your feild of view... you're gone.
Although everyone was focusing on how Gregory Horror Show is a inception
I'm focusing on how bonsai kabuki rolled down the stairs like freaking sanic

Gregory is a legit good guy on the train, shame it isn't, like, real.
Hey, fancy seeing a comment from you here! I see you on a lot of GameGrumps compilation videos.
Well, at least _better_ than his real life counterpart. Remember, he did eat that that pig guy, as well as had no remorse for the fat chicken; but still, he is noticeably nicer.

This is a great show. I wish they would have made more seasons.
Indeed, GHS is a very interesting and fun show, but I think that it was ended because of the lack of fans or it didn't go far on TV or the game.
If there was another season. I would like to find out if the next guest goes to heaven or hell. Or a different ending because it could become over predictable if the same ending happens over and over again.
There was a mobile gacha game for it, but it was only available in Japan. It's called GHS: The Lost Qualia.

@@OldTimeyDragonWith the Internet, anything's possible, I'm sure!
Gregory is now in the matrix

I enjoyed watching these. Thanks for uploading ChocolateHills!

I know I've said it a billion times already but..... my thoughts exactly
Endings where the bad guy wins always screw me up. I wanted Gregory to be brought to justice in both Volume 1 and Volume 2.
i don't know why i have been told this isn't as great at the first 2 parts? this is actually pretty damn amazing if you ask me
Ok so he’s using the train to escape his reality, and the past couple of episodes were him overdoing it and realizing that he has to get back to reality. Really ties this in with the past 2 seasons!
Trainception, MsChocolateHills?
hmm actually aside from the Cat, the Bonsai is also harmless showing someone their desires is not that harmful ...embarrassing as all hell though ....
Did the show just come full circle?
1:37 Oh, Catherine...that was bad timing at that episode....
Neat. Can't say I fully get it but I think I will eventually.
Hey, welcome back! Did you have a nice trip, Gregory?

Wait has anyone acknowledged that fact that the front of the train is shaped like a mouse!
I guess Volume 4 wasn't even real. Just a fucking train James was playing with.
Gregory is not bad, he is a good person but his destination was this, he couldn't choose his path unless he tried to change the things or escape, he couldn't, he is trapped there because that's the unique thing he can do, obey his mama, or maybe not... The only truth: nobody gets aqay fron gregory house. There was never another option.

That music at the beginning, why was it so awesome?
So this volume was based on James just playing with a toy train
did you upload 27?
Very good.
James is in this episode? Weak!
I didn't completely understood this one!
Wow.
This is too sad
Will there be a vol 4?
There is a vol 4 called The Bloody Karte which stars Catharine.
+TheDewottGamer got a link?
Wat
series 3 was disappointing
was this the last season?
The last full season, at least. I've heard that there was a lackluster half season after this one.
This is the last full season, there is Volume 4 (Known as The Bloody Karte Case, which goes through Catherine's view) but it only has 12 nights in it.
