1999 Michigan 500 weekend. I was wearing my Greg Moore shirt and standing outside his trailer between practice sessions. I stood there about an hour wanting to meet him and get an autograph. Finally, someone came out of the truck and came over to me and asked if I was waiting to meet Greg and I said yes. This person (I think it was a team member, but honestly don't remember) went in the truck, and they both came out and Greg talked to me for about five minutes about racing and hockey. Very similar to the story Hinch told about the steering wheel. Just shows what kind of person he was.

That is brought tears to my eyes. I was a huge Greg Moore fan back in the day. So sad that his life was cut short. Thank you for sharing this tribute to a great racer.

I got to talk to Gregg in the Houston race, he was very nice and didn’t mind answering any questions. He was no hurried in any way. He even offered to let me come and see his car that he was going to race the next day. I didn’t think that in October he would be gone! Such a sad thing for him to loose his life as he was such a talented and kind person!

I got to meet him at Nazareth in '98 during the rain out, the team set up a little canopy and he was signing autographs and taking pictures with fans, he was just so nice, like I remember he helped my father with the disposable camera, like he was just a genuine and down to earth dude

I was 13 that day... A weired german Kid watching CART on Eurosport at 10pm german time, everyone was in bed already just me and the TV showing this spectacle. When i fall asleep, before the annoincement that Greg passed away I was still hoping Greg is OK... on next morning I tried to find out about Gregs status but it was hard without internet and before school. But after all they showed it in the News, and that Greg is gone.... They never showed anything about CART or NASCAR in Germany at all these days, but when something shocking happens ... they are there....
It was symply hard for a Kid swallow that pill... RIP Greg

Same here just that I was 15 around that time and was watching the whole race up until the announcement came in. Didn't care at all who is going to win the race or the Championship that night. All what mattered to me was if Greg is going to be okay and when the announcement was made by Dr. Olvey I immediately turned off the TV. Never watched CART again and it was up until Hinchcliffes arrival in IndyCar when I found my way back to US Openwheel racing.

Just awful how he was taken from us much too soon. Wish we could have seen him race with Penske. I love to see Hinch paying tribute to his hero

I always felt that Greg had the potential to reach F1 if he'd wanted to go there.

@@twillis449 I heard somewhere that if he hadn’t died sometime in the early 2000’s Williams would have given him an F1 test

Saddest irony of Moore's death is that it came on the very kind of super speedway he specialised at.
