Filmed August 1967. Satire starring Christopher Jones. At the time the US voting age was 21, and the politician here played by Hal Holbrook wanted to make it 18, which it did in 1971. The song here refers to making it 14.

I have had this song in my head since I first saw this movie. I was 14 in 1968 and it was relevant. How silly it looks now. Can that really be Richard Pryor on drums?

Trivia: Christopher Jones's singing voice was dubbed in by a singer named Harley Hatcher, who wasn't included in the movie's credits (see IMDb).

I know I’m a few years late, but Chris Jones actually did do the singing for most of the movie. (I read an interview with him a while back.) The only song I am pretty sure that he didn’t sing was The Shape of Things To Come and he didn’t sing on the album that was later released, either.

Shelley Winters was amazing and so was Ed Begley Sr. (and how ironic it was, by the end of the movie, that the only happy senior citizen was Senator Amos Allbright-who, in the beginning, called Max a “shaggy little monster” and referred to his followers as “filthy rabble.” Hee-hee, Senator Allbright LIKED tripping 😳😱😮) So perfect 👍 👏👍

The movie was hilarious in places but ultimately very depressing. Prophetic in the sense that if the Democrats get their way we are doomed. I was 18 when this movie came out and I am glad I eventually woke up as to who were the good guys and who were the bad. I dodged a bullet with the Vietnam War which was started over bold-faced lies by President Johnson.
