I don’t know. I have a DR650SE built and two ZX14’s. I love my ZX14’s. I guess it’s all personal preference. BTW, I am a larger man (6’4”, 285.) The 650 is a larger off-road oriented bike. And I still look like a monkey fucking a football when I ride it. It is fun though.
Best to order your fuel pump, clutch plates , barrings, and filters to have at home for quick fix/ maintenance. Sucks to be waiting on simple parts to be avaliable or shipped to the US
The display is minimalistic for experienced riders CC, mph/km, hours/miles, check engine and low fuel, you should already know your RPM and gear by sound and feel without having to think about it! If you want display heaven buy a "24 KTM 1290 Super Adventure R, it has a big screen TV mounted right to the bars stock! lol
Yeah but did you see the Ducati 698 Mono display? Wayyyyy better! However, KTM has a new SMC R for 2025. I should've waited but I couldn't pass up this deal of 2k+ off.
Do a slip on mainly to get rid of the heat coming off that stock exhaust. Then first try a fueling dongle instead of tearing into the whole bike. The fueling dongle will smooth out the throttle response and give you a nice little bump at lower rpm’s. Don’t freak out if the check engine light comes on after a few miles. It will eventually go back off after a few cycles. Been very happy with that mod on my 690 Enduro R for the last year or so.
Well man, one of the best reasons for that aftermarket exhaust. Weight loss. I would wait a bit, it would probably void warranty. Love it though, change those couple things you don’t like. Look forward to exhaust and tune.
Yes, I showed it on the highway in this video. And also, I will be doing a video solely on its highway performance. I can ride this bike to California on the highway, it is a comfortable and smooth on the highway.
ohio KTM fan boy here, good luck with the build brother, just finished my 24 500 EXCF supermoto build. she RIPS. cant wait to see how the 690 shapes up
325lbs is indeed the dry weight. I've seen it listed as the dry weight in many places, including their own website. Not sure how that google search came up saying it was the wet weight.
The rear mounted fuel tank does a nice job keeping fuel weight low on the bike which helps with that nimble handling feeling. But putting the weight near the rear of the bike can upset the handling of the bike when riding in a DS setting - the weight isn’t as centralized. Overall I think it is a good compromise
What prevented me from getting this bike is that you really need to remove all restrictions to get the bike you wanted. At that point, yes it is still a much more solidly built engine than the EXCF's, but warranty is still voided and the EXCF's are also quite good, so it is basically a heavy and more reliable EXCF. BUT a lot more powerful due to higher CC
I hope you keep this one for a long time CycleCruza, I’ve had my eye on one of these for quite awhile but I wasn’t sure about the long term reliability of them. Thanks for the upload and please keep us updated!
To fix the rear gas tank safety issue (possible leaking after looping) We replace the filler cap assembly with one from Vanasche Racing. It's billet aluminum. Also the absolute best crash bars are from T Rex industries. Crash bars with their own little crash guards. They make them in orange.
Congrats on your new bike cruza! I really thought you'd bite the bullet an grab an adventure bike but excited to see what you do with it regardless of if you outfit it for long rides or not. Keep it up with your videos man, you're of the most entertaining on yt and tell it how it is
CycleCruza, I’ve had 3 KTMS: 390 Adventure, 350 EXC-F, 500 EXC-F. I’ve modded every single one and have not had any problems. Maybe I’m lucky, but all have been fine. 2/3 have been purchased brand new and I built them to use. I used the shit out of them. The 500 EXC-F was just insane: Vortex ECU and all bolt on you would want to accommodate it. Not unit that but suspension and stuff to make it look pretty. So fast and I never had one issue. My next bike I wanted was one one these. I’m glad to see you get one and eager to watch your future reviews. You da man!
Once you get the cosmetics and mirror stuff taken care of, you will like it even more. I was on the fence when I got mine. After I got it lowered, a new seat, cosmetics, and initial mods done, I am really liking it. I'm in Ohio too. Not too many good riding days yet.
I’m excited you bought one of these. I bought the 23 at the end of the year and just went over 300 miles cuz winter and all. Still getting used to it but it is so much fun on the twisties. Can’t wait to see what you do with it🤙
I heard that a little Xtra weight is good on the high way/freeway , they say when you ride past big semi trucks the wind doesn't blow it around as much as the lighter bike.
Ktm measures wet weight without fuel for some reason. Only include oil, coolant, and brake fluid. Again look into that fuel controller made by someone on the forums, it MAY not void warranty.
Thanks for the info! That is silly to weigh the bike with no fuel. I will likely do the full mods on the bike. I love this bike so far, I just hope it stays reliable.
I didn't hear you mention 'break in miles' but since I haven't bought a brand new bike since the 80's, what's the recommended break-in mileage? Either way, perhaps wait and see how everything does for a span before thinking about mods, especially if warranty is important. Great vid!
Its KLX , not KLR for the 300 SM and its a great bike for people just getting into Supermotos. But if you weigh over 200lbs, you will probably be disappointed in the power.
I ordered and installed the wings exhaust from their website. It comes with two different inserts, has carbon fiber and has been amazing. Also the the carbon fiber heat shield.
Def gotta get the CUMPAN display, and Rotty mods!! Wish you lived closer to MD i'd let you hop on mine and tryout all the mods lol!! Also your TC is ON in these videos which I am pretty sure limits the wheelies, or at least I think it does on 2023 (which is what mine is)!
Just a little heads up cc, the new Indian scout was just unveiled and it is amazing!!!! Trade the KTM ASAP, and be the first to navigate within this legend of a motorcycle.
It really ain't, tho. If you compare it to his YZ, which he bought brand new for, I believe around 10k, then he needed to buy a new set of wheels, which is easily 1k, buy all the electronics, etc. New seats and mods. You will get close to thay price, and then I didn't even factor in. It's a Dirtbike with Dirtbike maintenance. Which will cost you a ton also compared to the low maintenance of this bike.
I did not pay that, I got it for $12,600 OTD. I got lucky tho. All other dealerships wanted $15,500 OTD. I would say it is worth what I paid for it OTD, it has premium components and it is a street bike engine with extremely low maintenance, not a dirt bike engine like my YZ450FX supermoto. I paid about $11,500 total for the YZ supermoto build, bike was 9k OTD alone + build costs.
He paid 12.6 - that ain’t bad! Like all categories of bikes: it’s all relative! This is a bad ass supermoto ….. and if that’s your thing …. you pay up …. like anything in life. ☮️⭐️☮️
I did some more videos, you'll see me using it coming up. It shifts quick and flawlessly. I'm just so conditioned to use the clutch tho because my other bikes don't have a quick shifter.
Got all the mods, bike runs perfect, no problems , over 5000 miles. Good fuel and fresh, quality oil every 2000 miles (diy) Didn’t touch it until run in service was done (700miles)
I was never sure about KTM reliability since I've been a Yamaha hardliner most of my years riding but I've been flogging the shit out of a 1290 for the last 2 years and at 30k miles the only thing i had go wrong was a dirty fuel filter and I probably need to do fork oil sooner than later and i still use it tour around on but I'm also gonna pick up a goldwing for the even longer trips I'll be taking
dude , great video , i just got a ktm 690 , i have 300 miles on it , i did a wings slip on and rear tag and light kit and new seat and new wider pegs, new grips and new mirrors . i think the bike needs more balls on the low end , im still at break in , but who knows , and yes your yam 450 has too much balls to be a super motor , im not going there , thats crazy
Awesome to see you got one too. You right about the bottom end but that can be corrected with going up a couple teeth on the rear sprocket which I might do. Such as fun bike to ride. ISadly, O'm still waiting for my exhaust, about to cut bait and just go buy a slip on. I need sound asap!
i bought the wings slip on from over seas , nice people , and they shipped fast , i think it was $288.00 with shipping , my dealer said they could not get the wings ????? sounds great
I’ve had three of these with no reliability issues at all. No need to pay for any features with this model, everything is standard. In the UK you can buy one new for about £9k. $15k seems a lot to me.
Like I said I’ve had three with no issues at all. I’ve had 5 KTM’s in all with no problems. I’ve also had loads of other bikes from various manufacturers. I’ve personally found the kTM’s no less reliable than any other bike I’ve owned.
In 2022 I attempted a YZ450FX Supermoto Build. I got it headlights, signals and brake lights, horn and plated but could never get the batteries to hold power. It would die during the ride and not restart. I gave up and sold it and later found out I needed a bigger stator. I ended up replacing that bike with a rebuilt 2003 Honda XR650L. With a lightened flywheel it’s a fun bike. Similar in size but maybe a little lighter than the KTM 690. I’m happy with it and still saving to supermoto it. It’s a Big Red Pig.
mystical 16 my name is dave im torn between the xr650L and the 690smcr. if i get the xr is it going to be fun enough or am i gonna be wishen i spent the xtra 5k+ on the 690?
Hi Dave, I can’t speak for the 690SM as I’ve never ridden one. Looks like a fun bike. I imagine it’ll have way more power than the XR650L. The XR’s are known for their reliability and being bullet proof when being maintained. After market parts for decades to come. The biggest difference is if you want fuel injected or carbureted. Both weigh close to the same.
@@Sinister_fartbox yea for riding around calmly using the clutch feels good but a for a fast take off 0-80mph i love the quickshifter on this bike. It feels bad ass.
I know but my mind is conditioned to use the clutch without thinking because my other bikes don't have a qs, hard habit to break but the more I ride this bike the less I use the clutch.
That KTM 690 you have is a Monster, hooligan bike!!!! Super Moto is a class of bikes meant for balls to the wall sh!t Wheelies/Stopies . It’s OK cycle cruiser , Clutching the bike up into a wheelie takes time to learn. Having that YZ 450 is a no effort bike. But It takes skill to stunt like a PRO Keep up the good work
Trust me, you wanna do it on the cheap lithium battery slip on Up 1 the back and down one in the front sprocket!!and a $39 fuel dongle you’ll save 20 pounds and get all the grunt you ever dreamed of
I didn't even watch the video yet but I got yer five. 1 it rocks 2 it doesn't suck 3 orange 4 fast (hate that) 5 homeruns are for suckers Ok now I watch the video. How did I do?
Honestly, I think *it's better he starts A NEW channel, and rides the 200mph babies again* , on this Channel, cause the cops caught him to court, they got his eyes on him in THAT STATE, right? Bro had an E scooter arc Bicycle arc Wannabe off roader went into a dip in tall grass and needed surgery, then he shut up about off roading Bro, start new 🤣💨💨💨
CC check out Rade Garage for their Carbon Rally Tower and their airbox/filter with the under seat storage tray! Looks/works great on my 2021 SMC R. 👍🏻💯🌶️
You need to mods to get rid of all the weight. I'd rather have that YZ weighing so much less. Get on a trackday with either of them, sumo are really fast on small tracks.
Two different bikes. the 690 is versatile, can make a great lightwright ADV bike but yet you can take it to the track and ride it off-road, not perfect at any one thing but can do a lot. I love it. The YZ is my dessert bike. With the 690 I don't have to think about oil changes like the YZ.
CC, I might be imagining it, but I hear some regret in your tone. You just love that YZF too much. You’ve already had The Best, so it’s hard to love the rest…. Ride on. 🤘🏻
I know it's all subjective CC but I had a 690 Enduro and was never impressed with the power myself and the seat height was ridiculous and I am 6'2".... Don't get me going on the uncomfortable seat ! Lol... Had buyers remorse and ended up selling it.
MT-09 can't go off-road like this bike can, I enjoy this bike more than I did my MT-09 and I might even sell my mt-07 because I'll probably be riding this bike more. I love it so far.
@@Broken-six I live in South Afrika. They made the DT 175 street legal here until about 2015 when our regulations kicked in. Can still buy it brand new today here for about usd 3000 but cant register on the road anymore
yeah, screw that, I built one, with all the Rottwiler and PC everything, cost me 17,000 dollars, exhaust, etc, could of bought a MT-10 for the price and be way faster. My only complaint, was the gears suck and you will never find nuetral at a red light....Buy a MT-10 instead, trust me....
It is not about going faster, but even if it was, faster where? And what about the supermoto fun part. Anyways, i would compare the 690 to MT-09 SP, not the 10.

It would be cool if you get a set of 21' front and 18' rear wheel for off road if you decide to do the TAT or serious dirt.
Hey, I’m looking for advice, me and myself, I own 690 and am wondering if the mirrors are removable because I have my own to place in any advice?
Yes they are
Lol wyd with em? I looped mine last year and need some stockies I miss them dearly.

Nah not for the price of this bike, it’s unacceptable in 2024
Like the new MT-07s? They literally turned a tablet sideways and bolted it in...looks absolutely terrible

Should I change the header too? Or keep the stock header?
@@CycleCruza Change to the Tekmo Ti. huge difference. I'm runnin the Arrow silencer (DB delete).
Have you had it on the highway yet? Unfortunately nothing but highways where I live
Yes, I showed it on the highway in this video. And also, I will be doing a video solely on its highway performance. I can ride this bike to California on the highway, it is a comfortable and smooth on the highway.
@@CycleCruza Except when a Tractor Trailer passes you and blows you around !.... . 😬
ohio KTM fan boy here, good luck with the build brother, just finished my 24 500 EXCF supermoto build. she RIPS. cant wait to see how the 690 shapes up
325lbs is indeed the dry weight. I've seen it listed as the dry weight in many places, including their own website. Not sure how that google search came up saying it was the wet weight.
Makes sense. It doesn't feel heavy riding it tho.
@@CycleCruza Nah not at all. Feels great.
Hey man, that does not look like a Hypermotard 698, you said you are going to buy the Ducati :P
I hope you keep this one for a long time CycleCruza, I’ve had my eye on one of these for quite awhile but I wasn’t sure about the long term reliability of them. Thanks for the upload and please keep us updated!
To fix the rear gas tank safety issue (possible leaking after looping)
We replace the filler cap assembly with one from Vanasche Racing.
It's billet aluminum.
Also the absolute best crash bars are from T Rex industries.
Crash bars with their own little crash guards.
They make them in orange.
Are you using quick shifter
Yes, more so in the other videos I did that will be coming up. It shift flawlessly and fast! I love it!
@@CycleCruza i was wondering about that,
please tell me where u got this bike for 10,999?
How does she shift though Cyclcrzr? Over @ Spite’s chanel, he said his was annoying how the shift feel was
Shifts smooth and fast with that QS. No issues for me yet. You'll see in coming videos.
Get the Rottweiler QUICK FLIP MIRROR MOUNT KIT (ARROW KIT) and the arrow mirrors. I bought them for my smcr and love them.
I’m excited you bought one of these. I bought the 23 at the end of the year and just went over 300 miles cuz winter and all. Still getting used to it but it is so much fun on the twisties. Can’t wait to see what you do with it🤙
idk if u already bought a set of shinko 705's but maybe try getting a more street focused adv tire like the Dunlop Mutants
The shinko 705 are bullet proof (I rode over shards of glass!) and good on the road. Those mutants don't look to good for off-roading.
705’s off road aren’t very good. The front tire washes out bad in gravel, be warned.
Dang CycleCruza, you should have just waited till 2025 for the release of the brand new Suzuki RM600 SM, look it up.
Is it confirmed ??
really?, I already have an erection man........
That display may as well be made by Casio. Lol
If it was. you wouldn't have to worry about it ever breaking in a hundred years
I heard that a little Xtra weight is good on the high way/freeway , they say when you ride past big semi trucks the wind doesn't blow it around as much as the lighter bike.
Order a set of throttle spacers. Way to much slop in the throttle. Well worth the $30
Congrats on the new bike!! If you compare it to cars it'd be a stock Mustang but the YZ is like NASCAR LOL!
I agree with you about the headlight.. it should be something like the Duke.
Is it easy to find neutral on the bike. I know the KTM dirt bikes this is an issue.
it's easy to get used too , takes a light touch
Whats the break in procedure on the KTM?
Great vid!
How is the Kawasaki KLX 300 supermoto? Have you tried that one?
Its KLX , not KLR for the 300 SM and its a great bike for people just getting into Supermotos. But if you weigh over 200lbs, you will probably be disappointed in the power.
@@spartanx169x thanks
I'm sorry, but the fact you think paying 15k for a supermoto is a deal is massive copium. In no way is any supermoto worth 15k. 10k tops.

20,000 in nz $36,000 for the superduke 1290
I notice that you are not using the quick shifter, why?
I did some more videos, you'll see me using it coming up. It shifts quick and flawlessly. I'm just so conditioned to use the clutch tho because my other bikes don't have a quick shifter.
All say put a 14T front sprocket that the Enduro has and you will take the grunt that you are missing, without extra mods. SMCR has 15T. Same chain.
I love the zeta hand guards
Same here!
@CycleCruza Looking forward to see all your mods on the bike, comfort seat i can see for sure
Got all the mods, bike runs perfect, no problems , over 5000 miles. Good fuel and fresh, quality oil every 2000 miles (diy)
Didn’t touch it until run in service was done (700miles)
Check your foot shifter lever/rear brake lever screws before every ride.. vibration from that 690 likes to wiggle everything loose.
I prefer Halogen bulbs over LED on my motorcycle. At night the white/bluish look doesn't cut through those dark areas. I love my OSRAM bulbs.
dude , great video , i just got a ktm 690 , i have 300 miles on it , i did a wings slip on and rear tag and light kit and new seat and new wider pegs, new grips and new mirrors . i think the bike needs more balls on the low end , im still at break in , but who knows , and yes your yam 450 has too much balls to be a super motor , im not going there , thats crazy
Awesome to see you got one too. You right about the bottom end but that can be corrected with going up a couple teeth on the rear sprocket which I might do. Such as fun bike to ride. ISadly, O'm still waiting for my exhaust, about to cut bait and just go buy a slip on. I need sound asap!
i bought the wings slip on from over seas , nice people , and they shipped fast , i think it was $288.00 with shipping , my dealer said they could not get the wings ????? sounds great
I'd still bet the YZ450 will be miles more reliable than the KTM. Plus paying to unlock features already on the bike will always rub me the wrong way.
I’ve had three of these with no reliability issues at all. No need to pay for any features with this model, everything is standard. In the UK you can buy one new for about £9k. $15k seems a lot to me.
the yamaha will be more reliable. I own a tracer 700 and a ktm 690 and I had to replace the engine on the ktm, unreliable engine
Like I said I’ve had three with no issues at all. I’ve had 5 KTM’s in all with no problems. I’ve also had loads of other bikes from various manufacturers. I’ve personally found the kTM’s no less reliable than any other bike I’ve owned.
Yeah. It's having multiple hands in your pocket robbery.
I don't know, only time will tell. It depends also on how you treat the bike. I will have a master KTM mechanic maintain it.
@@-mystical-16 I just bought a 2023 690smc-r lol

You can update the dash with the Cumpan dash. It adds, tach, gear indicator, temperatures etc and is pretty reasonably priced.
With his experience he should already be familiar with rpms...thats week one of learning. Gear indicators are ok, but not that big of a deal
could you do a review of your airbag vest

Remember that bike has a quick shifter. Just hold open the throttle and slap up the gears. No clutch. It feels even quicker when ridden like that.
Nice to use the clutch sometimes, especially on a bike like this
@@Sinister_fartbox yea for riding around calmly using the clutch feels good but a for a fast take off 0-80mph i love the quickshifter on this bike. It feels bad ass.
That sounds like it's really cool
I know but my mind is conditioned to use the clutch without thinking because my other bikes don't have a qs, hard habit to break but the more I ride this bike the less I use the clutch.
That KTM 690 you have is a Monster, hooligan bike!!!! Super Moto is a class of bikes meant for balls to the wall sh!t Wheelies/Stopies . It’s OK cycle cruiser , Clutching the bike up into a wheelie takes time to learn. Having that YZ 450 is a no effort bike. But It takes skill to stunt like a PRO
Keep up the good work
Trust me, you wanna do it on the cheap lithium battery slip on Up 1 the back and down one in the front sprocket!!and a $39 fuel dongle you’ll save 20 pounds and get all the grunt you ever dreamed of
I had my husky 701sm stolen recently. Be careful. These bikes are very sought after by theifs
I never park mine and leave it, I go ride and bring it back home. However, motorcycle thefts are not a big problem here except for dirt bikes.
I didn't even watch the video yet but I got yer five.
1 it rocks
2 it doesn't suck
3 orange
4 fast (hate that)
5 homeruns are for suckers
Ok now I watch the video. How did I do?
Hey bro there is a guy named Alex the car Doctor that sounds just like you I thought he was you for sure
I agree with you. It’s a nice bike, but the prices too damn high.
Not doing wheelies on a KTM 690 is a crime 😄
2019 seat sponge is worst then the 2024.
Keep the MT 07 this will probably cost when the maintenance and spares start coming in
Take your time to learn to ride it in stock trim to your and the bike's max ability.
Then decide what mods would allow more control or enjoyment.
I told you in the last video you wouldn't like the display! 😆 Did you find the hidden tool pouch?

You need to mods to get rid of all the weight. I'd rather have that YZ weighing so much less. Get on a trackday with either of them, sumo are really fast on small tracks.
Two different bikes. the 690 is versatile, can make a great lightwright ADV bike but yet you can take it to the track and ride it off-road, not perfect at any one thing but can do a lot. I love it. The YZ is my dessert bike. With the 690 I don't have to think about oil changes like the YZ.
I first guess without watching that you are going to complain about the weight of the bike. 😂
Just change the front sprocket. It’s less then 100$ and you’ll get way more then all the other mods
If this is a brand new 690, it's still restricted until you break it in and they release break in restrictions
I see why you got it. It's looks cooler than the 450.
Eh both are great to me in different ways. I want to start a supermoto collection. 2 stroke supermoto next....
you must switch off the tc, if you want to do some wheelies.
Bro? Did you say Bamboozled? 😅
CC, I might be imagining it, but I hear some regret in your tone. You just love that YZF too much. You’ve already had The Best, so it’s hard to love the rest…. Ride on. 🤘🏻
Wings tailpipe (titanium/carbon, no cat) & Lithium battery will knock a good 20lb off alone
I ride a cbr1000rr and am kinda bored of it going fast isint all that I just want a sumo so bad 😂
Hahaha idk man you don’t sound in love with it like you’re with your other bikes
I know it's all subjective CC but I had a 690 Enduro and was never impressed with the power myself and the seat height was ridiculous and I am 6'2".... Don't get me going on the uncomfortable seat ! Lol... Had buyers remorse and ended up selling it.
Saying the 690 dont have the grunt of the 450 is just dumb. That thing has a good bit more grunt than the 450.
You need to turn off TC if you want the full power. its going to hold back a little.

You got a great deal on that bike man!!
For the money I would take an MT09 SP... I know different bike but I dont care
