There's a more realistic, albeit rare, explanation to Matt Murdoch's condition: he developed synesthesia after his eyes were exposed to said chemicals. He may be "clinically blind", but he is still able to see. Meaning, that chemical exposure might have rewired his optical nerves with his auditory nerves.
Echolocation is a big part of his abilities but without the superhearing and Heightened senses, he'd be nowhere near as good.
Super hearing is a large part of him, hearing heartbeats, hearing conversations, tracking with super smell, his sense of touch and balance as well.
The synesthesia would be cool for another character but the Echolocation and super hearing is already the explanation for him and is a large part of the comics.

I'm legally blind, but you'd never know it if you see me fight. I can feel people around me, I can feel where they are and I can feel when they're about to take a swing on me. I can't really see anything more than blurry shspes, but that feeling I get is way better than vision, I think it's that feeling you're describing, it's awesome.

I have great night vision and even though I will never be as in tune with my non vision senses as a true blind person I feel like echolocation will add to my abilities and make me more versatile
I knew all of this already. When you loose a sense your other senses are able to make up for the one that you lost. One of the biggest issues I find that a lot of people had with the movie is that Dare Devil is able to see despite being blind. But no he can't see, the visuals you are seeing as the audience is just how they show sighted people how his other senses are creating a picture in his mind. It's a trick that both the comics and cartoons used as well but a lot of people miss interpret this as actual sight.
Whenever ur blind,ur other senses make up for it only if u want it to and only if u start using the other senses to the max,if u be like I can't see, I'll hear like a normal person,taste like a normal person,feel like a normal person,those senses won't work to the fullest
When he started talking about the "pressure" on your face when walking around your house with your eyes closed, I was floored.
I often get home late, and don't want to wake my parents up by turning the lights on, so I navigate my dark ass house all the time, and I can FEEL this pressure on me when I move around.

I actually didn't and thought it was hilarious.
This video made me realize something. Everyone loves this show, because it teaches us science in a way we are actually interested, because it aproaches themes we care, like pop culture. School should do this more often, like teach science using pop culture as an example, that way the kids would be much more interested.
I'm testing that out with my hand right now, I close my eyes and wave my hand over my face. I can definitely feel something and I think it's the combination of the light coming from my phone's screen that gets covered by my hand and the heat coming from my phone and my hand.
I'm suprised you didn't mention Ralf Mackel. He was born blind but he can somewhat distinguish light and dark. He is a racedriver. He can't though not participate at competitions since he has to be alone on the track, otherwise the additional motorsounds would trouble his echolocation. He drives sportscars, motorbikes and quads. He has participated at an event of the DTM (kind of Nascar but with rightturns too) and has a contract with Kawasaki. He is not only able to drive whole laps, his times are actually so good that professional racedrivers claimed that he would be a very serious opponent if they could race together. To prove he is not an impostor, Ralf has been dragged to different ophthalmologists confirming that he has an ability of sight around 0,5%.
+Joel Shinoda i mean theres people that have perfectly good working eyes but they cant see because the nerves connecting his eyes to the brain dont work. they can tell then theres something in front of them like a wall or stairs but they cant see it. is he like that?
+Juan Alejos No. They did count the photoreceptors in his eyes. While he has no color-sensitive cones, he has a very limited number of photosensitive rod cells. His eyes also don't show any reacton when you shine with a flashlight into them.

As shown in several episodes, Daredevil has heightened hearing, which allows him to hear everything, and home in on a voice he recognizes as being threatening, or a gunshot and then the screech of a cars tires. It's basically what you were saying; It's as though he's listening to the radio and getting twenty to forty stations at a time, only he can tune all the others out until he gets everything he needs from just the one
as an experiment, i started walking towards a wall with my eyes closed. i could feel something tingling in front of me as i seemingly got closer. one second later i hit the wall. humans are very strange creatures.

Practice. Even with eyes you can practice and at least know where the walls are in a room by clicking your tongue. It's pitch. The closer you are to a wall, the higher the pitch and vice versa. I thought it was crap... it's not. Just use a blindfold.

I saw a (dutch) guy once who could do this echo location and even know which color the object was. To me this felt like a trick, but since a color is basically absorbing and reflecting certain bits of the color spectrum, it could make sense they reflect sound differently too.

In Germany there exist multiple exhibits with blind people leading seeing people through totally darkened rooms.
Obviously absolutely NO lights are allowed inside these darkened rooms.
These exhibits are called 'Dialog im Dunkeln' / Dialogue In The Dark.
Here in Hamburg I visited the local exhibit multiple times.
During one of these visits our tour guide had just led us into the first totally darkened room.
She introduced hereself, and explained a little, but forestopped the usual explanation.
She then astonished everyone of us by saying: "Please, would the tall man in the back in the right corner step a bit closer so I don't have to talk so loud?
Don't worry, there is no one directly in front of you."
Everybody was flabberghasted, then the man in question asked: "How did you know I was tall?"
She answered: "I heard you breathing when everybody was quiet, and you have a slight headcold. I heard your breath from fairly high above the ground. I'd assume you are between 1.93 and 1.96 meters tall." (appr. 6'4" and 6'5").
Everybody could hear from his astonished "1.94" / 6'4.5" that our guide was absolutely right.
No, they don't pull that stunt as a show effect, as in no other of my multiple visits did they do this, before or after.
So, yes, blind people do develope an amazing set of 'extra' senses.
Our brains are absolutely astonishing sets of senses linked into our neuroplasticity.

Thank you so much for calling him "The man without Fear" because it has been so long since I've heard that spoken (the MCU kinda steers clear of all the sometimes goofy nicknames their heroes have as DC leans into it ala the Dark Knight and Man of Steel.) that it gave me a strong dopamine hit that soothed my Tourettes and gave me those chills you get when listening to good music. My theory is that he has honed the senses that he does have and had a dormant case of synesthesia that wasn't active because of visual data input. This would allow him to actually blend his remaining senses in his head and produce an actual "image" from the data.

Next time you are walking on a clear night after a warm day, close your eyes and hold out your hand - you can feel how close you are to buildings via thermo-ception from several feet away.
You can also feel the heat radiating when someone or something is close to you. And you could possibly sense the change in air pressure when something comes in close proximity.
Then... Daredevil could be a real superhero?!
After watching Daredevil and some videos of Daniel Kish, I've been training myself how to echo locate, even though I can see.
One thing I did notice whilst holding my hand front of my face was I could feel the heat radiating off it from a lot further away than I would of guessed. It is amazing what you notice sense wise if you "look" for it.
the only ability i would like to have is the healing factor. thats all i need.

I think that this is hitting the nail on the head as the saying goes. Daredevil brain has simply learned to process the information that it receives from external stimuli.
@nerdist I like how you mentioned the sixth sense but with enough training on it you would actually develop something like an amplification on your other five senses and it is a very powerful thing to have but mastering it is completely rewarding

I know, it's kind of late, but: some weeks ago I had to go through a MRT. You know, you stay in that tube and don't see a thing. At one point one of the nurses came into the room and the only thing that stopped me from being scared when she touched ME was feeling the change of air-pressure when she opened the door. So actually my legs told me that someone entered the room. Call me Daredevil ^^

There was that one boy who had his eyes removed due to a type of cancer. He could echolocate SUPER well. He'd click his tongue and several scientists would observe him. He'd ride bikes and play video games... even basket ball just like any other kid. His mom and his doctor felt that he should still walk with a stick but he felt it made him appear and get treated like he had a disability. Medically it would be safer for him to have the stick as his echolocation could not let him see potholes in the ground... just bump ups. They were worried he might walk into a manhole or into something. Unfortunately, the cancer returned and he passed away.
This is one of my favorite things. I work with disabled children, and one of them is blind (also non-verbal, to explain why I can't just ask him these things - he's 5). He often will bang on things around him, and I've always thought it was for this reason. It's very interesting, I don't think I've seen him bump into anything...just bang on anything in arm's reach.
A dolphin's teeth are off set from each other from the left side to the right. Scientists theorize this feature causes their snouts to receive the incoming (returning echo) sound with stereo precision. Think of a triangle, and how much information can be gathered from it; the teeth on the left side of the mouth are one corner of the triangle, the teeth on the right side of the mouth are the second corner of the triangle, and the object in front of them is the third corner of the triangle
Wow this was an awesome video. I actually have a character in a story of mine that has stronger than normal senses, and this just helped me really get a more concrete idea of how his powers would work. Thank you

Out of a curiosity from seeing some specials about blind people echolocating and bats, I have tried to teach myself echolocation. Via clicks, I can tell basic things like the distance to a wall or the general scale of the environment I'm in. I can navigate certain areas just fine with my eyes closed (barring things like uneven terrain that I trip on). With dedication, anyone can learn this.

He doesn't see. His sense of 'sight' is a combination of all of his remaining senses working perfectly together. His skin feels all the sounds bouncing off of every object around him and combined with his hearing he creates a perfect mental image of what's going on around him.

The parts of the brain that were solely dedicated to processing visual signals from the eyes are now used to process data from the other senses. Daredevil's sense has morphed into a type of synesthesia, where everything comes together as a mental image.

We'll when I was studying matial arts I would close my eyes and listen to sound and sometimes see a shadow of movement of objects moving in front of me.
Eco location is alot like sight ,light bounces of objects into our eyes we create a image,sound bounces of objects into our ears and we create a image

daredevil is one of my favorite superheroes in the marvel comic universe and I have seen all episodes of the marvel Netflix show of daredevil. It is recommended by me to every single one of the people that have posted a comment on this vid
So, I have a dysautonomic condition, meaning that my autonomic nervous system doesn't work right. The autonomic nervous system is what controls sense, including proprioception (as well as pretty much everything else that keeps you alive lol).
Y'know that moment when you go to pick up an opaque water bottle, thinking it's full, but it's mostly empty, so you use way too much strength and your arm kinda goes flying upward with the bottle? That is how I move through the world. I know where I want to go, and I move with intention; my body just tends to end up slightly off where I meant to. I bump into corners a lot, put my cups down unevenly onto surfaces, and am a general klutz.
Some days are worse than others - fatigue and pain affect it the most - but it takes a lot more concentration than for others.
All this to say, I'd make a really, REALLY bad blind person. Thank science for glasses that fix astigmatism as well....

so basicly every time someone "visualizes" seen without sight (benaffleck daredevil, tophs earthbending etc etc ) then its somewhat realistic since our visual nerves are reacting too.
I have a little of echolocation too, I'm not blind but I can fell things close to me, like like one time a friend threw at me the top of a bottle from the back, and I manage to dodge it.
Kyle, I was with the handicapped groups in since grammar school and could tell you a lot about the blind, deaf and mentally impaired.
A high powered frequency sound weapon, like an L-Rad would incapacitate him, overloading his super hearing and disorienting him.

A thought's just occurred to me; in order for him to be able to see & pinpoint exactly where objects in a room are, wouldn't he have to be constantly making noise himself in order for the echoes to bounce back to his ears for him to gauge the distance? Just receiving wild background noise doesn't precisely tell you the source.

well, actually in the comic books daredevil uses sonar, they just didn’t include it in the show. Probably, they thought that it would sound unrealistic. Who knew, who knew.
its also how you can tell someone is behind you. you're brain sences air being displaced. and very quiet sounds you dont even notice.
Daredevil has batman's sonar eyes without even having to tap into every phone in the city

ancient proverb states " when one sense is out of commission the others are highten superhuman levels. "
The closing your eyes and guessing where your hand is an inaccurate example of that sense. We can tell where our hand is relative to our face because it is part of our body, and we are consciously aware of what we are doing and where our limbs are.
