I have a 1984 xr 250r. I'm looking to put a shineray 250cc in it. These Chinese honda cb/xl 250 clones are a great simple reliable engine and parts are cheap and readily available.
Hopefully your project goes well. I am almost done with this I just need to make some time to finish it. Yeah the engines are reliable but also cheaper than any rebuilt cost on a Japanese.
Did you ever end up putting the motor in your 84 xr250? I have a 85 xr 250 and am looking for a chinese clone to drop in it soon. Any suggestions to the best match?
@@DJ-hy8wf yeah mate I have tried mocking it up and the Chinese clones are easy to fit in. You might have to make up some engine mount brackets. But should be an easy fit. These motors don't go as good as the XR'S so ideally fixing your xr 250r motor is the way to go. But if you can pick up a cheap pit bike with a clone in it you can try a cheap optional fix. Good luck
@@ItsCheechFool it wasn't hard. I did have to make two small brackets to mount in the bottom holes. The rest of the mounts align. It works even better on xr200 frame.
Currently I just see the 4 speed with reverse but keep looking at eBay they will pop up but sell out first. I also have the 4 speed with reverse and they are the same size as the one on this bike. www.ebay.com/itm/284803499196?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=elbwN2YER4K&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=UknEfie7Tty&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

@@diysideI'm thinking about getting one to put on my old xr200 do they perform well?
@@--________________________-- they are reliable. They have been cloned for years and tested for a long time esp outside the US.
