If you think about argentina as a team compared on a generational level, i think you really need to consider the style, not just the trophies. Argentina are really hard to beat, particularly the 2022 Argentina. The press was relentless. The counter attack was brutal. The mind set to win is amongst the best (penalty shoot outs). They play latin football style against European teams, which is extremely physical and tough. They have game changers and play makers in mid field who can defend as well as attack. They don't hold the ball longer than necessary. They had messi, di Maria. This Argentina team might not be like Brazil 2002, Spain 2008-2012, Brazil 1970 or france 1998, but what they do have is this incredible system which allows for pressing, all out defence, counter attacks and possession style, penetrative play which any team would struggle to play against. Not to mention the bench which under Scaloni can come on to change the game. Certainly in there for discussion.
Lisandro Martinez was mocked for his height in the PL. He and Romero is an impossible duo to break and even if you do, you have Dibu Martinez in the back. And then there is the monster De Paul running tirelessly to clear up anything that goes to the defence. Very good midfield, attack and bench and obviously Messi. This team has everything.

They have a world cup runner finish in Brazil along with two other copa America runners up finish. That is very hard to do. But there's loads of stats that prove the brilliance of that Spain team. Spain went 35 games unbeaten during this period and won 15 games in a row, both all time records. In the KO Stages of the 3 tournaments they kept clean sheets in every single game. 10 games 10 clean sheets. Only 6 goals conceded in all 19 tournament games. Argentina conceded 12 in 20. 7 in 10 KO games. They had some of the best players that ever played the game in most positions, even on the bench. And they had an all time great goalkeeper who made big pen saves as well.

They allowed only one goal in this Copa tournament. When they had offensive minded coaches who wanted pretty football (Basile, Bielsa, Pekerman) they never achieved anything. But Sabella's defense first approach took them to the World Cup Final in 2014 and also Scaloni's "defense first" approach to all these new trophies. It's not pretty to watch but the results are quite amazing. Sure back in Menotti's days they played offensive football but the 70's football was completely different.

They're up there now for sure but id say Spain 2008-2012 was the best team. I'd say the Euros are a harder competition to win(not by as much as people think though, Copas brutal lol) and that team was just absolute class all over the pitch, particularly that ridiculous midfield. Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Alonso, Fabregas, Silva. Villa up front as well, wow. Great defence amd GK as well.
Argentina obv have the Messi factor, and the way he's inspired those guys to play for him is absolutely amazing, and the Dibu factor as well, and theyve proven really adaptable and resilient. But I'd say Spain would win 7/10 times head to head.
Pretty biased opinion. No stats or numbers to back up your claim. Do your research and see if Spain could have matches this: 2 losses in 62 matches. Since 2019. 18 gls conceded in their last 45 matches, with 33 clean sheets in that span. Nobody can score on them. They allowed (1) gl in Copa America, and it was a fluke. Plus, defenders are bigger, stronger, and faster today. Not even close dude. You can't argue numbers. Not to mention the best player of all time, and the best international keeper in the past 5 yrs.....

In the KO Stages of the 3 tournaments they kept clean sheets in every single game. 10 games 10 clean sheets. Only 6 goals conceded in all 19 tournament games. Argentina conceded 12 in 20. 7 in 10 KO games.
They had some of the best players that ever played the game in most positions, even on the bench. And they had an all time great goalkeeper who made big pen saves as well.

Argentina is a weird team. As you correcly said... most of the time they look like they play like sh*t but they still win the games. All the talk is about Messi and their clinical strikers but this is very, very defensive minded team. Much like Carlos Bilardo's Argentina in the 80's and 90's. They allowed only one goal in this Copa tournament. When they had offensive minded coaches who wanted pretty football (Basile, Bielsa, Pekerman) they never achieved anything. But Sabella's defense first approach took them to the World Cup Final in 2014 and also Scaloni's "defense first" approach to all these new trophies. It's not pretty to watch but the results are quite amazing. Sure back in Menotti's days they played offensive football but the 70's football was completely different.

They have grown balls. Any team would lose against Colombia. How Argentina soaked in the pressure and ended up winning is underrated. Colombia was a perfect team - pace, physicality, technique. They had it all.
