My metalhead musician son introduced me to Sleep Token almost 2 years ago. We got into a discussion about my dislike of masked metal bands. He showed me the live 2022 Blue Ridge festival video of them playing Alkaline. At first I laughed but then I listened to the lyrics and Vessel’s vocals (I’m a singer and writer so that’s my jam) and I was intrigued. My ADHD brain had me doing a deep dive and I devoured everything I could listen to. Songs like Take Aim, The Offering, Mine, Atlantic, and Euclid really solidified my love for Sleep Token. Interestingly, I later found 2 songs from Vessels older project in one of my ancient playlist on Spotify.
I’m so excited that you’re starting from the beginning. A lot of their later songs will have call backs to these earlier ones. Vessel was quite young during EPs One and Two. He was so talented even back then. Can’t wait for your reaction to EP Two.

I heard the single Jaws first, then the cover of outcast’s Hey Ya, then I went to the EP’s. Just keep listening to these songs. The more you listen the more they will actually become your favorite sleep token songs. It’s because they are different and a little more out of the box and more creative that makes it strange at first, but then you love it in the end. Thread the Needle is actually one of my Favs. The Two EP is just as good!

I found Sleep Token during the beginning of last year, before Take Me Back To Eden came out. There are days I'm bummed I didn't hear of them sooner but I'm 100% certain that I personally found them at the right time, when I needed their music most. My first introduction to Sleep Token came about by accident. I was decorating my son's bedroom in the winter of 2018 and had left UA-cam on autoplay. About an hour into the decorating, a song started to play which literally stopped me in my tracks and kind of mesmerised me. That song was Jaws. Unfortunately, I didn't make a note of either the song or the group. Which meant that by the time I finished decorating, I'd forgotten the name to both! For the next couple of months I had the synth line for the song playing on repeat in my head with no recourse to finding out what and who I had heard. A little while later, I came across The Offering while browsing through UA-cam and was blown away. I then looked for more songs and came across Higher and then rediscovered Jaws! Been obsessed by Sleep Token ever since. My only drawback is I have never seen them live, but I am remedying that this November when I finally get to see them live in London. Really enjoy your reactions to Sleep Token and looking forward to you discovering their complete discography. Stay safe 🤘 ✌️

Cool thing to wake up to in the morning 😊
Someone really likes progressive metal....I mean Vessel. I think One stands out because it was still a “bedroom project” back then. And also the drummer ii was not there yet. He makes everything sound so different. On the second EP he was already there and the sound is already a lot closer to what they sound now. At least in my opinion.
Vessel learned piano first. I really do think of him as a pianist. But he can also play guitar.
The symbol on the first mask always reminds me of the “Tree of Life” or “ Yggdrasil”.
The most crushing line of this whole EP is “you don't really love you just hate to be alone”. Would be interesting to know the perspective of this. If he said this to someone or if someone said this to him.
When did I hear about Sleep Token. It was a video from Kmac2021 (he is a youtuber) and he named his fave albums of 2019 and Sleep Token was one of those. I listened to a few songs from Sundowning when I saw that video. But: I did not know what to do with it. I was confused by the lyrics and also right in the beginning I did not even like it that much. Around two years ago I “rediscovered” them again and I've been obsessed ever since 😅

Fun fact about II during the recording process of "When the Bough Breaks."
II's drums were recorded in a different room, which takes influence from John Bonham of Led Zeppelin in their song "When the Levee Breaks" recording their drums in a different space and gives it that natural reverberance/echo you can't replicate with effects.
    It's super smart and creative
