@@tabletopskirmishgames Thanks! I intend to apply Dungeon Universalis combat system to Warcry. I will keep the Warcry compendium stats for the models. What was stumping me was how many actions to assign. I do not like the standard Warcry rules of 2 actions per activitation. Actions should be variable depending on each model. I like your notion of tying actions to armour. Good stuff!

Weekend Warriors seems like a good game system, and very thoughtfully laid out. I'll certainly consider it as a gift for my son and his siblings. But I find that computer games seem to have spoilt children: so easy to play without having to refer to templates and rules lists. I bought Kill Team: Octarius to introduce my son to the hobby, but he found a basic First Strike introduction game a little overwhelming (although my lack of game playing could have made the game appear too clunky!). So, now I've shelved the Octarius boxset and have decided to try Burrows and Badgers. Hopefully that will be a little more child friendly...
That's great, thank you. The way I've written it means you can leave out bits to keep it as simple as you like, and the preparation in building a warband can be done together. Having just a few warriors is good too, and all their stats are in one place on one card each. Burrows and Badgers is a great ruleset! Still some list building but I think the way it is laid out and with the characters, it makes it more child friendly. My boy loves the Imperium magazine playthroughs, especially the early ones that have stripped the rules down to their most basic.
@@tabletopskirmishgames Excellent! I've since watched some UA-cam tutorials on how to play Burrows and Badgers which actually seem quite complex. But as with your system and Warhammer's 40K (in my case, First Strike) rules can also be made a lot simpler. When I introduced my son to table top gaming, I think it was the phases that confused him: he's not bad at chess, but in such games pieces only do one thing and they don't represent characters with special actions or other abilities. And again, computer games don't require phases, as everything happens automatically during gameplay.
In any case, I haven't given up. In fact I've only added more factions to be played in First Strike. Hopefully different play styles can be accommodated by either Marines, Deathguard, Gretchin or Orks. (Maybe not Gretchin though, as my son doesn't like losing!).
I'm hoping that the Defenders of the Riverbank may also appeal to my son's brother and sister. More the merrier!

I'll be playing with paper minis so I'm kind of concerned about line of sight. May have to use some house rules.
That's awesome, thanks so much! If you use those round plastic bases to hold the paper minis, you can imagine a cylinder coming up from it and then use that for line of sight from any angle.
Absolutely incredible Lee, how you have managed to take so much from various games, combine your wealth of knowledge, add some excellent images and come up with an absolute priceless niche that does what I've seen so many posts mention... "how to get children and family adults into wargaming", you're an absolute genius Lee.
As you know Lee I have the pdf version, but this looks so great and I want to support everything that you do, so I've also ordered the soft back version as well and when it arrives, I might also get it spiral bound

Very well done! I really like the armor vs. actions balance and how you can pair your fighters’ physical attributes with a profession. The continued support for the game is a great selling point as well!

This looks great. I can see an expansion book coming out with random bosses or traps that could jump in to torment players! A sleeping giant that gets woken up if you shoot too close to him! Great stuff. Its now on my, 'to buy' list.

This whole thing is great, but it's the armor/actions system that I like the best. It makes a big clunky orc and an elf with a rapier feel completely different even if they're both the "punisher" class.

I don't have kids but I'm buying this anyway. There's a real gap in the market for easy games anyone can play and this looks like just the ticket.

Hi Aaron, I've got plans for solo and co-op so will be releasing extra content for it. They'll be for all genres but I think solo will be awesome fun with a Zombie scenario!
