As somone with actual experience in fluid dynamics, there is no way in hell that the air intake is anywhere near adequate for air intake and for cooling your compressor. Don't be surprised when your compressor dies on you much much much earlier than you expected

    Great video! 👍😃 I love it!! 🤩
I'm looking to do the same basic thing except that I want the boxes to be built into a new wall I'm adding in the garage.
I have a basic idea of what I'm getting myself into but probably not entirely... I've decided that the empty space in the garage that tends to get stuff stacked & packed and then forgotten, needs to be sectioned off as it's own room with a specific purpose to keep clutter & disorganization to a minimum.
I'm designing an "Ebay room" (could be turned into a nursery if necessary?) in the garage. But my husband's large tools, like the air compressorS (and accessories) and the generator, need a permanent home where they're also still conveniently useful and easily accessible.
My solution is to build a wall beside the space where the car gets parked with built-in cabinets to hide his oversized tools. It'll consume some of my "Ebay room's" space to do this but it'll be worth it to provide a solution to multiple problems - the need to declutter, find a permanent home for his large tools where they're most useful anyhow, hide the large tools in plain sight, and the need for a raised "desk" work space in my area so this should work for both of us perfectly, in theory anyhow.... I hope... 🤞🤞 Nah, I'm certain it'll be better than what we've currently got going on in the garage! 🤣😉
I'm certainly open to suggestions here. Watching a few similar videos, I came across a retractable air hose contraption that I think I'll add into my plans but wait to give it to him as a Christmas gift. I didn't know something like that existed! He'll love that too!

Nice.. im in the middle of watching it.. like your editing skills and to the point,.. Do you have a cut list, or part list, in the video or u can post, like material type, est. costs. etc.... Is using screws and metal a good idea or can you get by with an adhesive...? Solid work though.. ALSO I DID SEE another construction with the same crazy zig zag air lids like the others but his main difference was he removed the feet grommets and used bungee cords and heavy duty nylon straps weaving it underneath to have the unit suspended supposedly that was one of the biggest reductions. Thanks for taking the time to post your workflow though. Cheers.

Hi did you use insulation foam? Inside the box? If not and you cant find you can use old egg boxes and stick them in the inside of the box that will Lower the sound alot but make sure that there is enough circulation inside to keep it from over heating place a fan inside the box directly towards the generator and make smaller holes on the side for the air to keep circulating. And then get a rubber matt the length of the generstor id say atleast 6mm thick and place it underneath the generator and one underneath the box this will stop alot of vibration which will also lower the sound.

☝️But you have to pay attention to one thing! Heat can cause fires! Your workshop can be reduced to ashes! Why not use lime or gypsum blocks !? The best way is to use aluminum plates for framing, with a strong cooling system, arrange it inside with gypsum or lime blocks, from the outside as under the roof, insulate it with fiberglass, two channels Dig the vent on it, one on the left and one on the right, the channels must be at least 2 meters high, you can even equip it with a car cooling system. But ventilation ducts are very important. Strictly avoid wood and plastic incendiary materials! Safety is the first important issue in technique!🤔

If it’s not overheating there is no issue. I’d be more concerned about air compressors exploding in general. That’s why my build has a cage inside. Every workshop should have a fire extinguisher as a rule anyway. More chance of a grinder starting a fire than an air compressor

cheap? that looks like most of a sheet of 3/4" MDF and idk what the foam is. what are the material costs?

Hey Garreth, a feq Qs. Where did you buy the upholstery foam? Is your compressor sitting on foam directly? Did you ever consider soundproofing materials like those used for homes - or somehow you found out this foam works wonders?

No probs. 👌👌 Found the foam at a lockal supply warehouse. And i used rubber underneath to minimize the vibration.

I've watched about 15 of these "silent compressor box" videos and yours is by far the quietest. Which is odd because in several other videos where they test the effectiveness of sound proofing material, the foam ranks pretty low (common bathroom towels score really well actually). Could you link the exact type of sponge material you used? Thanks!

Could just buy a new compressor. Modern high quality compressors arent too loud and one with a large tank so its not turning on as much
