I wish I had found you sooner. The dagger scabbard making video blew my mind - I previously only knew how to make them with welts.

"Upside down horn is a sign of distress," was a nice touch. No need to explain that one 😆

Well done on committing to a costume change while starting off. It definitely made me start paying attention that you look like the folks I want to emulate at my LARP. I also never thought of wear to place it on my belt. Very nice video, sharing to my page. Thank you for making this

Another great video Chuck! I make frogs already and I still learned a bit from this. I love the touch of the peace tie too! Your energy is great and the video made me smile. Thanks again!

Wow. I found this interesting. I am relatively new to leather crafting and come to this channel to learn - wallets, bags and such. I’m not at all into any of this, BUT the video was still interesting and enjoyable to watch. Thanks Chuck.

Ah the first couple frogs I bought had such a big angle that I hit everyone, basically got into leather working so I could make one that had a much smaller angle 😅 love that you mentioned that

You keep knocking the videos out of the park Chuck! This was very interesting and informative. Love the costume.
If you haven't already done a video on sharpening edgers, I'd appreciate seeing one.

I am working on a pirate costume with a baldric and a separate waist belt.
i carry my dagger across the back of my waist belt that is two widths, outside is 3" and ends short of the 1 1/2" belt. the scabbard is a simple wrap with lace than I laced the scabbard to the 3" belt placing the holes 1/2 under the thinner belt. added the peace tie to secure it.
the baldric i bought but unhappy with the bright modern look of it and the way the sword frog was designed, so am disassembling it and reworking it. I am thinking of using your design for the sword frog but without the belt loops. will attach to the baldric at a much less severe angle it currently has.
my costume is not going to an elaborate captain's outfit, mine will be more of an actual period piece and less hollywood. lol
i learn quite a bit from your videos and love that you are a ren fairer

Very good tut.👍 I'm in the process of making the sword one. Printed to 100% cut out card stock, then cut the leather and the holes but the holes don't match up. In fact they're way off. Should have checked the holes on paper before punching the leather. Now I will punch new holes and the cinch will cover up all the holes. Thought you should know.

      Hi Erik,
We checked on this and it seems to be matching on our end. You'll want to make sure you print "actual size".

@@WeaverLeatherSupply I absolutely did and on my prints the frog rivet holes center to to center are 3.35cm apart on the cinch they're 4.2cm. Are they not supposed to be equal distance?

Very nice video and first rate craftsmanship. Got a glimpse of the sword scabbard, I like it. I guess it's built just like the dagger...I watched that video. So with the frogs, does one size for dagger fit most daggers? Does the pattern contain different measurements for different size scabbards/daggers? Be really nice is this was a pre-cut kit one could order. Thanks.

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Dean,
Most daggers are different sized so it's hard to create a one size fits all kit. If you follow these instructions though, you can adjust the measurements to fit whatever you need.

This is a fantastic tutorial, however, the digital pattern is incorrect. The holes to rivet the cinch onto the frog backs do not match up. I thankful caught the error before I punched into any leather, but it was really disappointing that I had to make so much modification on what I thought would be a very quick project.

Hey, I love you videos and they were a big part of what inspired me to get into leather working, and I was just curious if there is are any differences in making the other style of dagger frog shown? I think I like the style of the one with two straps as opposed to the full frog, and I’m just curious if the measurements would be vastly different, and also, would that style work for a sword as well? Anyway, thanks for all the great videos!

Most medieval swords did not utilize a frog. The scabbard had belts attached to it and the main sword belt that was separate from your primary belt that held your cote in place.

Another fantastic video, Sir. One question: When you mentioned the suede, is that on the outside of the scabbard/sheath to provide friction against the frog, or the inside of the scabbard/sheath to provide friction against the blade?

Peace tying is an odd concept, from an Australian perspective. We wear all manner of weaponry at medieval events over here and no one bats an eyelid nor tries to hit anyone else, at least outside of the tourney field.
