What a peaceful pleasure it is to watch you build. A masterclass for some, but inspiration for all to reach higher at whatever they do. Thank you kind sir. Enjoy your summer!
"Friends, don't repeat my mistakes" is one of my favorite quotes. Dont worry about that Max, I think I need a few lifetimes of engineering and woodworking before I can make any of the same 'mistakes' you make. Legend...
From a fellow woodworker in North America, the video was wonderful, enthralling, just amazing. I can not believe what you are doing with so little tools. In North America, at our latitude, we have such a different type of forest with a mixture of just a few softwoods, but many many hardwoods. I think that we have 200 different oak species alone. We have a southern yellow pine that sometimes will become wind blown and lay on the forest floor for years with a preserved heart wood, but typically the available useful wood - even thought the tree in total might be 2 feet or more in diameter, the unrotted heart wood would be very small but thick with preserved sap and extremely aromatic- and combustible. In this sad time , I wish that we all were building beautiful boats in a peaceful spot in a beautiful locale as you are. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story.
Another great video! Im a wooden boat builder for my day job, a couple tricks I use that might help you: kerfing is a way to joint boards together with a saw, rather than a plane. You gently clamp boards edges together, then saw down the uneven gap between them, it only removes wood where the boards touch, allowing you to then push the boards closer together, and you can repeat several times if needed to get a perfectly fitted joint, and can be done when you are too exhausted to do a nice job with a jointing plane. The other tip is if you tip your plane slightly on the return stroke, your plane blade will stay sharp much longer. There is an ancient recipe for a boat finish called "boat soap" or "boat sauce" it is just pine tar, bees wax, and linseed oil. You heat it in a can inside of a pot of boiling water, you rub it on hot, let it dry for a bit, and it will seem like a sticky mess, but you polish it with a dry rag, and it brings the wax to the surface, leaving a nice surface that is as pretty as varnish, but it wont crack wnd trap water underneath, causing rot like varnish, and the pine tar is very rot preventative. If you are building a wood boat in the woods, instead of in a fancy shop with a steam box, and you worry your boards will crack when you bend them, you can pour boiling water on the most extreme bend and it will help a lot. Thanks again for making so many great videos, i like doing similar projects, and i am disabled with MS, so sometimes i feel too sick to do much, and its fun to watch someone else's projects on those days.
Wonderful to see you again. This hour spent with you was worth every second. I am always in awe of the lengths you go to to share this beautiful content. Praying you stay safe friend. ❤️
Good to see you posting again, Max. These are strange times we live in, I'm glad to see you're doing well. I hope to see many more of your sommer projects 😊
Hats off! You tell the story with the same mastery as you build things, with just enough of the soft Russian accent to make it a perfect de-stress from a hectic day in the city.
Just watching you working away in that peaceful beautiful environment is so relaxing and calming for me, so I can only imagine what it is like for you. Much respect and admiration for you my friend. I love your videos.
I'm always amazed at the projects you pull off with the tools you have out in the forest. The video quality and narration is second to none. You explain the project perfectly with just the right amount of detail. At the end of your videos I want it to continue, even after an hour long video. I can't say that about a lot videos that I've watched that were much shorter but, filled with a lot of unnecessary chatter. Thank you for sharing!
You, sir, are the most innovative, creative, intelligent, and hard-working human being I've ever encountered. To be able to make a great video is wonderful. To be able to plan and execute such a complicated task in such a primitive environment BY YOURSELF is beyond belief. The fact that one man can do both, and present this project to the world in such an interesting and informative fashion defines you as completely unique. Thank you for everything you do to bring us your treasure!
@Advoko Are you familiar with Windsor chairs? They are beautiful and strong. I recommend Curtis Buchanan's channel over other Windsor chair channels for the level of instruction. However, he uses conical tennons for legs into the seat. I recommend cylindrical. Conical makes it easier to correct the angle as the hole is being reamed but makes a connection that loosens.
Max, you are one of the very very few master craftsman alive today. Your videos are amazing and a pleasure to watch. I personally thank you for your hard work to bring such a beautiful piece of art to life. Thank you.
You're the most capable man I've seen on internet. You go every time for more ambitious projects and adding skills while perfectionating the one you already have. Keep going, we love to see your work. Also your videos are reaching a documentary quality.
It’s always a treat to see a new Advoko video. This long video was so enjoyable. Your skills, knowledge, and ingenuity, combined with your hard work ethic makes me certain that you will succeed in any project that you set your mind to. I really enjoy how you share your thought processes as you go along in each creation. Paddling off into the beautiful Lake Ladoga was the perfect ending to this video. Thank you for sharing this with us, Max. I’m glad to see that you are well.
Max, You are an amazing craftsman! It's a treat to watch you construct what you already see in your mind! I look forward to seeing you craft your Viking Longboat! Hope your Bees are still well, pollinating and giving you honey!
The time you put into these videos shows with their great quality and informative content! What a beautiful place to be... Thank you for sharing your experience!!
Brilliant, love the vid and the fact that you speak all the way through, I turn off vids with no talking. Superb build and very well filmed and explained vid, thank you.
There is something very inspiring in watching you fabricate things, such as this pirogue, from lumber that you hewed and milled yourself using, in large part, tools that you also fabricated, and power tools that are powered by power generation and storage systems that you also fabricated. I have great admiration for you, your resourcefulness and your craftsmanship.
You are one amazing man, when the world comes to an end... everyone will love to know a man like you! I think im handy around the house, but after watching you i realize i buy my wood, tools, hardware, and only do a fraction of the work you do - i can only imagine the feeling of accomplishment when you do everything from scratch like this. You sir are an inspiration to millions - keep it up!
Man you're a talented Bushcrafter. I'm glad I found your channel. Pirogue's are one of my favorite boats. And yours is a really fine example of one. Thanks for the chainsaw mill idea as well. Please keep up the excellent work.
I'm 4 months late but I watched the whole video. I fully enjoyed not only the actual boat building but all of the preparation work from finding and cutting the planks through the boat building jig and more. For anyone that enjoys wood crafting I think that they would find the same enjoyment from this video. I also found your informative voice over to add a lot to more fully understanding the various processes and thinking. Just first class all around !
Max, I'm sure most of us wonder how you manage to build these projects in such a short time frame, and let us not forget you're slowing yourself right down self-filming. I hope you find a good hiding place for this baby, and let good people make good pirogues!
Having Karelian roots, this makes me more than happy. The meditative story telling and the information you deliver is exellent. And thanks for not using annoying music.
Wow! Your craftsmanship is impressive and the fact that you documented this so well is exceptional. Your channel is unparalleled; it always makes my day when you release a new episode. Thank you.
You're a absolute master craftsman! Seeing all you do and the degree of fine detailing and just pure ingenuity always leaves me in complete awe! Thank you good Sir for sharing this with us!🙏🏻 Warm greetings from Sweden🙂
Max, my whole family loves your videos. Since I introduced you to them, they have become big fans. You are such a great advocate for the Russian people. Your work is incredible and your videos are mesmerizing. Thank you for sharing with us.
I love your calming tone and your smooth, elegant delivery, it makes me able to digest the content no matter what it may actually be, amazing work my friend !
I think the bottom looked like a leaf. Many times during your video, I was unsure of the terms used, but kept watching to see what you meant. So much work appeared a pleasure from the way you enjoyed the process. It was like witnessing craftsmanship being born into a practical (yet beautiful) result. Thank you for not covering up your mistakes or I would believe you to be a super hero. As a man you are charming. Nice to see your efforts turned out successfully. Great job! ❤️👍🥰💯 I look forward to the next one. I bless thee. Congratulations Max..
Mesmerising, Such an adept man at bushcraft. Thank you so much for posting this wonderful content for the world to learn from. Advoko you are a true inspiration and a true gentleman. You have such a calming voice and gentle manner. I know what I will be binge watching for the next however long. 🙏
My man you are a treasure. Literally. Your diy sawmill alone should be tought on a global scale. I would love to have a tea in the forest with you and contemplate life.
Your time in making the video is not wasted. I watch your videos with my children. You are not just entertaining me as a man but educating my children. My children appreciate the amount of effort and planning it takes to make things the way you do. Many thanks from my family.
I was spellbound while watching this 1 hour video. With each episode, I am more impressed by your knowledge, presentation skills and kind heartedness. The world is a much better place because of you! Your production efforts are definitely appreciated! I am very happy that you “Let good people watch good videos”! Thank you from Ottawa, Canada. 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
Thank you for putting in the extra effort to record your free time project, edit it, and provide many helpful comments, all to share it with the world.
Hey Max I love your content. Not just because your projects are interesting, but you are so down to earth and human. It is rare to see on the internet these days unfortunately.
You gave me an hour of absolute peace and serenity. What price can one put on that. I admire your skills, patience, stamina and attention to detail. You delivered your journey in so gentle and unassuming manner that it provided the illusion of ease in fabrication of your product. I wish you well in all your endeavors. -- Steve McKinstry -- MSgt of Marines, Retired
I'm not always in to comment videos, but when I do, it will be remembered for the rest of my life. Thank you Max Egorov from St. Petersburg, Russia. I also will let other good people to watch your good videos dear sir.
Hey Max! I was stunned to discover this video was so long, but I only noticed by accident after half an hour because I got a notification that distracted me for a second, but I was entranced the whole time. I am not easy to entertain either, which is proof that your efforts in videography are paying off. Your videos and ingenuity have been captivating me deeply. Today I learned something that’s making me rack my brains to understand - to take such hard working vacations. In our society we’re told that vacations are for laying down sunbathing or the likes, but I have been going against the current by using such time for bicycle touring and such, and recently added woodworking to my hobbies. You have introduced me to the idea of secluded hard working vacations. Bushcraft is not new to me, yet the amount of quality work you’ve been showing in your videos are sort of a revolutionary idea to me. You make it clear that, as we say in Portuguese, ‘those who DO for/with pleasure don’t tire easily’. The partition of your life you’re sharing with the world is a testament to the old adage ‘do what you love and you won’t work a day in your life’. Instead of actually working hard at a job one dislikes, earn money to buy a soulless boat, you take your effort and put it towards yourself. You make not only useful things but works of art, with blood sweat and tears put in. Working hard for oneself is never wasted, and your passion for the crafts shows. TYSM for taking along for this fascinating boat ride. I can honestly say I now look forward to your upcoming content, and that I look to you with the admiration and love a student does to their master and mentor.
It’s great to see you posting a video again, I’ve missed your high quality productions. Your ability to turn your hand to so many endeavours is absolutely amazing. Well done and it’s always a pleasure to watch.
Max, well done...your project and video were both very interesting, educational, creative, skilled, entertaining and enjoyable. You are a very intelligent, knowledgeable, capable, perfectionist...everything you design, build, adapt and improve is quality and serves it's function well.
Excellent video, my friend. Also shows many of us new techniques to use if we ever need to work off grid. Here in the US I have always had the luxury of using factory made equipment, but your application of hand made clamping procedures are quite informative. I know mankind has used these techniques for centuries, but modern conveniences have caused us to forget many time-tested applications. Thanks again - enjoy life!
It's been some time since I've enjoyed one of your videos, to see how you adapt a traditional African boat, using native European wood has been more than educational. Your self taught wood working techniques certainly get results. I'm addicted to a world wide phenomenon television series called Alone where contestants are sent into the wilderness with 10 items for survival and the last remaining wins. Only 3 have made boats, which helped them to harvest fish. You would do well at this. Keep up the good work.
It's a joy to watch you work. Your videos are fantastic, the amazing pieces and projects, the soft-spoken commentary, and the sheer work ethic. And this is your vaction!? Well done, sir.
@@Advoko Also, there is absolutely no need to apologize for showing us some of your "personal" time! You are, as the comments show - an interesting person with a wealth of knowledge and skills. I am sure I am not alone when I say - please do show us more! When you pulled out that sauna, I genuinely thought - "Is there nothing this man can't do or MacGyver himself?!". Your free-hand milling technique (as well as the cord/string cutting jig) has been such a useful thing for me, and I'd imagine for many others - so thank YOU, Max!
THANK you for this sentence. It sums up the video for me, it also allows me to notice similar moments I experience in my life, and to add higher quality and value to them. Very important to stand by our sense of satisfaction when we feel it. "Sitting on a warm rock, near the largest lake in Europe, listening to the splash of the surf, looking at the product of my efforts. It's almost insane to wish for anything else. If I were to describe this moment in one word; then I would chose the word 'appeasement'." Again, thank you for this video! I loved it.
i love your videos. When I see a new one in my feed I feel so happy. I simply love the quality and pride you put into your work and the relaxing tranquil nature of your videos. You are one of my favorite UA-cams Max, and you are appreciated.
Great video Max! Good to hear from you again. I've built a couple of smallcraft over the years, and yours looks pretty darn good. Being an old sailor I can tell you, maintainence is even more work than building. But you probably knew that already. Already looking forward to your next video.
Woodworking out in the wild, how lovely! Thank you for this excellent entertainment and education. I thought its especially interesting that milling the lumber took more than half of the video. I think when we go to the lumber store and buy some nice, straight, dried and planed boards it is easy to take the raw material for granted! Your boat really looks great! Have fun using it. Greetings and kind regards!
Max from the very beginning it was very intertening. thank you so much for sharing it with and looking forward to seeing your next video. take care and god bless.
Soaking the dowels in water for 12-24 hours works great. If you take them straight from soaking in water they have expanded and after you pound them into the holes they will hold very tight and strong. You could also make pine tar by rendering and or do both, soak in water and use tree resin. You can steam boards to bend then better.
Я очень рад снова видеть что-то замечательное от вас и приветствовать вас со Средиземного моря на юге Франции. Всего наилучшего и спасибо за вдохновение 🤝👁️🔥👁️
Hi Max. I just discovered your channel because of this video and I congratulate you both for the quality of the footage and the beauty of the story describing the realization of a dream in a beautiful place and finally for your narration in a language that is not your mother tongue perfectly understandable and correct. Thank you for making and publishing it. And good luck in these trying times.
The wait is always worth it when it comes to your videos! Thank you for what you do and i look forward to the next one! Stay safe and in good health my friend!
Have been wondering about you with all that is going on in your part of the world. So glad to see you are well and still producing magic in the wilderness!
Max, don't ever think that your videos are underrated....not at all, you can make a 10 hour video, and every minute would be supreme, my friend!
Should ABSOLUTELY try a live stream sometime!!
Max is supreme, a real go getter, a master.
Amen! ❤ 👏👏👏👍👍👍

I don’t understand why you don’t have a sponsor yet you look like you have enough subscribers to get one and you’ll get money off of it.
Have a great video ❤❤❤❤❤

Thank you for such a high praise!
Excellent! I watched every second. You are brilliantly talented.
As a retired Carpenter I can really enjoy these videos. Thank you. You are very talented.

Max, don't ever think your videos are a waste of time. What you create always seems wonderful.
What a peaceful pleasure it is to watch you build. A masterclass for some, but inspiration for all to reach higher at whatever they do. Thank you kind sir. Enjoy your summer!
It is isn't it... deeply therapeutic
Thank you for the info!
Hell, that was a bunch of useful info for the rest of us as well, thanks man, that was some excellent information.

Just watching you working away in that peaceful beautiful environment is so relaxing and calming for me, so I can only imagine what it is like for you. Much respect and admiration for you my friend. I love your videos.
Thank you for your kind words and support
Thank you, your videos always bring peace, relaxation, and inspiration! 👏👏👏
Thank you for your kind words!

Are you familiar with Windsor chairs? They are beautiful and strong. I recommend Curtis Buchanan's channel over other Windsor chair channels for the level of instruction.
However, he uses conical tennons for legs into the seat. I recommend cylindrical. Conical makes it easier to correct the angle as the hole is being reamed but makes a connection that loosens.
the hardest part is finding that primitive environment where you can do that without being arrested by the npc agents of governments
As a woodworker myself, I really appreciate your skills and use of mostly traditional tools. Love the boat!

Thank you for the feedback and your story!

It's been some time since I've enjoyed one of your videos, to see how you adapt a traditional African boat, using native European wood has been more than
educational.

If I were to describe this moment in one word; then I would chose the word 'appeasement'."
