Yeah, ... thing is, she died on Thursday and I could really use some kind words from friendly people, that I can share this Akhaten-connection with. She also loved this episode... I just hope, you still get notifications from such old ass comments.
I'm way way late to the party but I didn't see this .mentioned in the comments but during his regeneration the music playing in the background is "The Long Song" from this speech. Still hurts my soul.
I don't think you should be looking for a reason for Clara's love for children and her ability to deal with them; its just the way it is as with anyone in the real world. But I want to point out that her first incarnation in the asylum of the Daleks she is very nanny-like too, maybe not motherly, but she has those qualities like trying to be fun in the face of danger, guiding people through rough times, being compassionate and helping them in sort of indirect ways; which I think is all very good for dealing with kids. She is just very brainy and selfless and really understands people.
As of now, there's three episodes I hope you'll be reacting to; 7 : 13 "The Name of the Doctor" and the two specials "The Day of the Doctor" (50th anniversery episode) and "The Time of the Doctor". I love seeing your reactions to Doctor Who, it reminds me so much of how I felt the first time I watched this awesome show :)
This episode I think is a fan favorite. I liked it because I feel like you rarely get these off world/alien experiences. And we get these usually on the companions first picks. Like Rose with the end of the world show. And then Amy with the space whale. That's why I kind of liked the Donna episode where they went to that diamond planet. It was a trip for fun and relaxation. I like to see stuff like that without having to always be running from something.
Wow - I hope you're getting a lot of good advice on what to react to, because there's a ton of stuff between season 8 and 9 which are outside of the main set of episodes which are definitely required viewing: The TV Movie, Night of the Doctor, An Adventure in Space and Time. etc. they're all, in their own way, essential to the ongoing plot
1:50 - "Pancake Tuesday... That's what I love about Doctor Who - all those weird, nonsensical, throwaway lines!" "No, that ... that's a real British thing."
Okay then. That’s what I’ll do. I’ll tell you a story. Can you hear them? All these people who lived in terror of you and your judgment. All these people whose ancestors devoted themselves, sacrificed themselves to you. Can you hear them singing? Oh you like to think you’re a god. But you’re not a god. You’re just a parasite, eaten out with jealousy and envy and longing for the lives of others. You feed on them. On the memory of love and loss and birth and death and joy and sorrow, so… so come on then. Take mine. Take my memories. But I hope you’ve got a big a big appetite. Because I’ve lived a long life. And I’ve seen a few things. I walked away from the last great Time War. I marked the passing of the Time Lords. I saw the birth of the universe and watched as time ran out, moment by moment, until nothing remained. No time, no space. Just me! I walked in universes where the laws of physics were devised by the mind of a madman! And I watched universes freeze and creations burn! I have seen things you wouldn’t believe! I have lost things you will never understand! And I know things, secrets that must never be told, knowledge that must never be spoken! Knowledge that will make parasite gods blaze! So come on then! Take it! Take it all, baby! Have it! You have it all! *goosebumps*

The one criticism I have with this episode is I think that the doctors memories should have been enough to defeat the "planet thing". I know that Claras thing with the leaf was really sweet however I feel that the doctors emotions of love and loss and hope and sorrow that he has felt throughout his lifetime should have been enough. I know that Clara did need to contribute to the story however I feel that this should have been a Doctor moment and just a Doctor moment.
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS Shayla don't read this The thing about Clara is that her "Impossible Girl" shtick, for every incarnation of The Doctor, there would be several Clara echoes which that doctor encounters. So you have the millions and millions of echoes each with their own individual lifetimes which would be comparable to the thousands of years of experience The Doctor has lived. But on TOP OF THAT, Clara is responsible for The Doctor's all other regenerations after 11, as he would have died fighting in Trenzalore without her. So that tiny leaf is not only responsible for the millions of lives of all the echoes but also for the billions of years 12 spent in the confession dial (which, ironically, he only did to get to the ones who got Clara killed).
agreed, Matt's heartbroken fury is still regarded as one of the best speeches in new who, and this was the beginning of my hatred of IT this should have been the doctors moment not IT. It is also a good excuse for later when he forgets things. Who knows what damage is done by a sun eating your memories? Bound to leave holes.
Fun fact as Clara’s mum died in 2005 which is when doctor who came back we can assume that Clara’s mum died due to what happened in the first episodes of doctor who
The first Doctor had three companions: His granddaughter, who was posing as a student on Earth in the 60s, and two of her teachers.
he had rather more than that, but they were the FIRST three
I love the Doctor's speech in this one. I think I've said it before, but he gets some truly epic ones during his run. :)
The Doctor's granddaughter, Susan Foreman, was the first Doctor's first companion in 1963. He ran away from Gallifrey with her in a stolen TARDIS.
You become a companion when you step up to support the child/person in danger, when you loose yourself from the Doctor and stand on your own
yeah the granddaughter was a reference to susan, she traveled with the 1st doctor. As always great reaction.
Whatever you do, before you watch the 50th anniversary, watch "an adventure in space and time" it was a special written for the 50th anniversary year telling the story of how who started in 1963 and is amazing (and relates to something later on) also if you get the chance, watch "the 5 doctors ish" again a special for the 50th and very funny with lots of special guests!!
Yay!
Edit: absolutely one of the best speeches of who!
Yep! With the Zygon speech close number two!
@@chanceneck8072 for sure!
@@chanceneck8072 No spoilers
Moffatt's era and generally Moffatt himself really has the best speeches for the Doctor.
Hey guys, I know it´s been a while, I´m just searching for a few of my old comments or for the people from the community, like Torchwood Boy or Liam Catterson, whom I´ve been following this journey along with.
More specifically (ha, pulled a little "WhatTravisSays" right there!) I am looking for the people, who I´ve told, that I use to rewatch this episode every year on christmas with my mom.
Yeah, ... thing is, she died on Thursday and I could really use some kind words from friendly people, that I can share this Akhaten-connection with.
She is just very brainy and selfless and really understands people.
completely agree. it's obvious that clara is just kind by nature, and it's just one of the things that make her such a lovely character.
One of my favourite 11th Doctor moments and of course I had to get that song.
As of now, there's three episodes I hope you'll be reacting to; 7 : 13 "The Name of the Doctor"
and the two specials "The Day of the Doctor" (50th anniversery episode) and "The Time of the Doctor".
I love seeing your reactions to Doctor Who, it reminds me so much of how I felt the first time I watched this awesome show :)
1:41 Yeah, the grandaughter reference caught a lot of people off guard. Honestly weird they haven't done more with that.
Susan is his granddaughter. She was in the 60s with him, where all of these adventures began.
Now ..... I just want to see her react to Heaven Sent...............
Yup. muahahaha!
*between Series 7 and 8
@@Kasterborous1963 Doh! You're quite right!
If you watch the first ever episode of Doctor Who you'd know he has a Granddaughter.
His Granddaughter Susan was the Doctor's first ever companion in the classic series :)
The Doctors first companion was his granddaughter, Susan. The Doctor left her to go live a normal life and never seen her again.
1:50 - "Pancake Tuesday... That's what I love about Doctor Who - all those weird, nonsensical, throwaway lines!"
"No, that ... that's a real British thing."

You say you’ll be on season eight by the time this video is up? Well I hope reactions are upcoming for A Nightmare in Silver and The Centre of the Tardis. And of course the name of the doctor and the 50th anniversary.
His granddaughter Susan was his first companion. They stole the TARDIS and ran away. It’s worth watching the pilot episode, “an unearthly child”. I really enjoyed this reaction but it’s “the day of the doctor” I am most excited about
The day Clara's mum died was around the same time as Season 1 Episode 1 Rose, the shop dummy invasion? Interesting theory :)
I just freaking LOVE this episode!! Ever since it aired, I watch it EVERY YEAR with my mom on Christmas......

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS Shayla don't read this
The thing about Clara is that her "Impossible Girl" shtick, for every incarnation of The Doctor, there would be several Clara echoes which that doctor encounters.
@@laracameron9876 Exactly, that was my take on this.
agreed, Matt's heartbroken fury is still regarded as one of the best speeches in new who, and this was the beginning of my hatred of IT this should have been the doctors moment not IT.
It was orginally interesting that this girl keeps on turning up in his life, is it the same one or not, but once it turned into a 21st century english girl it started to become "the latest companion saving the doctors butt and proving how clever they are!!!"
Do you not know about Susan, the Doctor’s granddaughter? Understandable, she’s never been mentioned before. In the older series, Susan was the Doctor’s very first companion, along with two of her Earth teachers.
You can see The Doctor as Clara arrive still crying in pain on the ground, he really never talked all that out loud in a while...
Clara’s mum died on 9th March 2005 the day new Doctor who s1 e1 (Rose) first aired so the theory is that she died in the auton attack on London
I love seeing all this theorizing. Also, that speech is still so good.
4:06 I was actually a bit pissed he did not give the glasses.
2005, was when Series 1 started with Rose and 9TH Doctor.
thank you for reacting to this :D
Though I still refuse outright that a LEAF represents infinite possibilities more than The Doctor and the TARDIS
When you said by the time we see this you'll be done with the season and into 8 at least, then all I want to send along is the best wishes and lots of hugs Shayla. Us crazy fans are here with you.
The Doctor's granddaughter Susan was his very first companion when he set out from Gallifrey. A big wink to classic who fans with that mention.
Also that speech gets me every. single. time. Onwards and upwards, eh?
Now is the time to watch the mini-sode "Clara and the Tardis"
i love this episode so much i feel like it’s so underrated and that speech.... amazing!
just wondering what your next three reactions will be and what season are you on now, and do you need me to give you another list for the next season yet? xoxo
ps love your reactions, in case i didn’t mention that already :)
A season 9 list would be appreciated now :)

9x2
9x6 (maybe)
9x7
9x8
9x9
9x11
9x12
9x13
9x14 (christmas special)
hope this helps x
I love watching Americans get confused about “Pancake Tuesday”
9:20 Don't you mean, when she stepped into the snog-box ;).
Yes!!!! Rings of Ahkaten!! With one of the best speeches ever in Doctor Who!!!
Hey shayla if u look at the date on the grave stone it's the same date as the doctor met Rose 🌹 that would mean Clara mum died by the autons,
Just don't miss the 50th anniversary episode! I'm not exactly sure where in the episode line up it aired but I think it's around the end of the season. Try to get your friend to set it up for you because even the clips, trailers and poster to it have a lot of spoilers.
Seriously… even if you type the title into google or you tube you're going to get major spoilers instantly. You'll want to go in blind like you do on everything.
BTW the car that almost hit clara's dad is the same car that kills rose's dad
9:24 my season 11 reaction
Christ this episode chokes me up. The whole scene with the Doctor and the God just gets me every time.
You should do a mini reaction video of just the speech part, I would really enjoy that.😀
11:41 plus he was her ride home
I always figured the TARDIS doesn't like Clara because, like the Doctor, it can't work out who or what she is just yet.
Such a beautiful song.. and speech
so if she gave the leaf away how dose he have it later?
Caught up with Blind Wave now
Oh, so by now you've definitely reached season 8? Episodes 8 and 9 are a must! Also 11 and 12 are a two-part story.
I hope you choose Episode 8, "Cold War". It reintroduces us to one of the classic monsters from the Second Doctor's adventures! Also, Episodes 11 & 13 are worth a look!
Amazing reaction. I love that speech. This speech and the Pandorica one are just great. I listened to various of the previous actors that played as The Doctor doing both speeches and it is always great.
Will you react to Adventures in Space and Time and to The Day of the Doctor?
Also, will you react to the short Night of the Doctor?
Sure she said night of the Doctor is getting a reaction
it's the absolutely best song track to Doctor Who ever made
That speech....take it, take it all baby!!!
His granddaughter was called Susan Foreman.
wasn't the speech great? which wisdom the doctor has. i know you will like the clara story
