Months ago, Putin said "In the coming weeks, we will be exporting gas/fuel half the of our current exporting quantity but I can assure you, our profit will be increased by few fold". Many thought Putin must be crazy.
They increase their gas/fuel export to certain countries for instance india and saudi arabia...russia isnt going to make big losses, and their financial sector is just going to adapt to the current situation while europe will be on the frying pan.
And looking at the prices now, its clear to everyone why it was crazy. You can only be unreliable once, after that people learn the lesson.
Being a European - I feel that these sanctions punish us more than Russia. It's time to end the sanctions and turn to normal lives. Our politicians must find other ways to negotiate with Russia. As long as the EU and the US supply Ukraine with military equipment, they will prolong the conflict and exclude peace negotiations

Russia's entire economy is based on the export of fairly uncomplicated resources, meaning that they need foreign currency to buy stuff from other countries with. No money, no currency reserves, no stuff, no economy. Every time they shut off the gas taps they lose money, and they don't have anywhere near enough coming back in to replace what they've either spent or had frozen.

At the COP21 convention in Glasgow. It was decided to reduce the use of Gas due to the emissions from burning it. Russia did not attend or agree on cutting emissions. Russia doesn't want to stop using Gas, as it knows that if the use of Gas on the World Market is reduced then so is their income.
Germany took some measures to reduce gasconsumption already. I'm still waiting for my government to do the same.
But many households are already reducing energy consumption because prices went up.

Without more pipelines he can sell his gas to no one. And pipelines he can't build on his own. He needs western or chinese expertise to do that and even then it would take yrs. So far the Chinese still refuse to build more pipelines. Without western technologies this might be even impossible for China.

And how is it going to get there? There are no pipelines. Russia's open ports can't handle a supertanker. So It's got one sitting out in the middle of the Atlantic and they are shuttling oil from smaller tankers to it. Pretty expensive transport and one hit on any of them and insurance policies are through the roof or won't insure them at all. The LNG terminals are already operating at full capacity.

The problem with green energy in Europe is that there’s no wind and no sun (compare to places like US southwest). And even though it’s cheaper to maintain, the cost to install solar panel farms is much higher than a drilling site.
I fully support nuclear. it's the greenest option available that's ready to go at scale and is reliable regardless of the weather. It's always there. In an ice storm, in a record heat wave. In the middle of the night. and the waste it produces is used in medicine. I firmly believe, providing an adequate waste storage solution is the biggest cost. Finland's electricity is mostly nuclear. And they have a storage solution drilling into the bedrock. Canada his a similar bedrock type that would lend itself to N. American storage solution. And Canada already mines nuclear fuel. Canada is building a Hydrogen port on the east coast to bring Hydrogen to Germany, created by windfarm energy. I think Germany's nuclear plants could power Hydrogen generation on their own, and use the Hydrogen to power their manufacturing. Meanwhile the citizens can use the nuclear generated constant power for their homes/cars.

Nordstream 2 was abolished only after RuZZia invaded Ukraine, US had little to do with that decision. RuZZian gas was not even much cheaper than gas from other suppliers would have been. RuZZia corrupted german politicians to get its way. But this is over now and Germany will find replacement suppliers. There still aregas fields in Europe which are unexplored yet but will be opened within the next yrs. Turkish gas fields, romanian gas fields, greek gas fields.

Firm where i work had to double increse price of goods by 30% loosing almost 35% of customers: EU firms defaulted/reduced own production and half of them outside of eu went to cheaper competition.
