  • About to adopt their first child, Rob and Marcio want to trade in their two-bedroom detached home for a more family-friendly dwelling. But after a month on the market, they’re worried the property might not sell at all. Sofie says the nearby beach and trendy neighborhood are major pluses…But the home’s clutter, unsexy master bedroom, and oddball design features are a major turnoff.
    In order to market the home to first-time buyers and urban professionals, Sofie comes up with a $4,500 plan to modernize the interiors and create a cohesive, turnkey design. After some coaching, Rob and Marcio begin to see things from a buyer’s perspective. And while Anthony and the team neutralize the paint colors and create ‘flow’, Sofie teaches the couple the finer points of making the sale.

    I adored the rainforest in the kitchen! Fresh, welcoming and healthy 😍 The skylight hack was awesome!! I really loved the yellow/green colour outside the front door and glad they left that alone. The garden front and back was gorgeous! And the impression of a hallway was excellent. Really loved this improvement - apart from the plants being removed! 😊

    It looked so much better afterward, but I hate that unsightly and unnecessary living room dividing wall. They should have just removed it. It would have made the room seem so much bigger. The little hall area could have simply been defined with furniture, which the bench more than accomplished.

    I've been binge watching this show as I am going to be selling my home in several years. It has given me a new perspective on what will be necessary. While the renovations may not reflect your personal tastes, the objective is to appeal to the widest range of the target market as possible while keeping costs low. Plus, you need to remember that this was filmed in 2016 and styles change.
    (I absolutely LOVE Jeremy.) The one question I have concerns those stairs by the living room that lead down. What is down there?

    • @calendarpage
      @calendarpage 3 роки тому +1

      Actually, it was filmed in 2008, so even more reason not to get too wrapped up in the details, but look at the big picture. I'm looking to sell in a couple of years as well. I've been decluttering, but see I can do a lot more. Even at that, I may get down to the bare bones and put things in storage. It's also good to see what a little change like paint or new bathroom lighting fixtures, can do. You don't need to spend a lot before the sale.

    I've noticed one thing though-they're very quick to paint over wood. I do agree with the bedroom where they removed the wood and repainted, but what they did to the 'office area' was a bit too much. Why not pick a brighter paint & show that wood as a 'feature' by rehabbing it a bit? They did the same thing to some gorgeous french doors in a previous episode. I kinda feel for the new owners who'd be later 'taken aback' by some of the 'cover-ups.' But to these owners, they didn't care. They painted some probably beautiful tile black. I have a problem with these 'cover-ups; they only destroy properties in the long run.

      It was ugly, and those old sofas were dire! Maybe the home was priced really competitively considering it sold over the asking price - there must have been others after it.

      It had beautiful dark trim. Wood stains come with design constraints; whoever choose that wall color failed to complement it and it came off looking old and ugly.

    Why use another dark countertop, other colors would be better tan, beige, faux marble light, etc. I would have removed the 1/2 wall by door, unnecessary. The removal of the collections was key, and move them to new house. I brought a house was Chuck full of furniture, collections, old wallpaper, terrible kitchen and bath. We did all the work and we got a bargain.

    Oh dear. The large established back garden, the entertaining hub of any house and unique wow factor selling point, was left with all its untidy clutter untouched, why? So many of the indoor plants, all real and a wow decor choice, were removed. The vintage kitchen hardwood floor (major selling point) was painted instead of sanded back, losing the trendy timber effect. The weird half walls inserted into the loungeroom shrank the space and made the entry look like the inside of a bank. And why move the lounge to block the picture window, ( which was rightly the main focal point of the room); and why no TV in the loungeroom? so many questions.....

    id open that bathroom upstairs, with that little room, make it a real spa like bathroom, for a real contemporary look, do the railings to the basement, with black rod iron/steel & plexiglass walls, very chic, & you can see right into the kitchen, absolutely NO NOT like that pony wall, when you come into the house, looks tacky as does the basement one.

    The first show house was horrible like someone's grandmother lives there. The second show house was much better. I like the remodel/upgrade except for the weird wall. should have removed he wall entirely. Also, the bench in the hall would have looked better if it was darker color and fit in more with the color scheme in the front room. All that white didn't look very good to me. Kitchen counter was a great improvement and really inexpensive. Loved both the front & back gardens.

    First I have to say that the suggestions of some bigots here that gay people should not be able to adopt says more about THEM than about gay people, who are usually exceptionally caring human beings. I would balk at allowing bigots, racists and homophobes access to ANY children - they breed more of the same. By the way, I'm a married woman with three kids. Re the house - I have to say I loved the kitchen, with its greenery and wonderful distressed floor and winced when he said he'd paint it. However, it did look good afterwards - the whole house did. I would have liked more of a divider directly inside the front door though - just open struts, light, airy but a tad more private. Lovely makeover, lovely couple - I hope they get to adopt soon.
