All that beautiful wood painted over. What a shame. Now all that trim work and moldings looks like the fake white stuff they use is so many of the newer character-less McMansions.
I never like when someone comes in and sees beautiful woodwork and immediately want to paint over it. I spent a lot of time in my first 1930's home stripping paint from beautiful mahogany. Does 'modern' mean 'paint everything white or pastel'?
Expensive & beautiful mahogany is VERY different from Cheap & poor people Pine. It needed to be painted over. That's the whole point in Pine you paint over it because you're too poor or just don't want to pay for a nicer wood.
Real wood work is SO EXPENSIVE!! I genuinely had to stop watching when I realized they were going to paint over it. Removing paint after the fact is NOT reasonable. I still can't believe people would appreciate composite, or pressed board whitewash look, over real wood. I don't even care that it's not your arbitrary "mahogany." The only reason you appreciate it more is marketing. Someone told you "red tones are better" at some point, and you believed it. Before mahogany, it was "heartwood." Someone always wants to sell you something for a premium. Some people like wood. Period. Pine. Cedar. Oak. Teak. Walnut. Cherry. Maple. Birch. Cypress. Ipe. This was pure vandalism. The fireplace was an improvement but cheap but I suppose they were happy not to be too much out of pocket.
According to the realtor, about 100 folks went through the house when it had dark woodwork, but no one made an offer. The woodwork may not be the primary reason, but people who do like original woodwork and fireplaces didn’t buy the house. So the wood was painted, like the sample house that did sell. We all know that buyers want things in move-in condition, and now this house is ready. Want a Craftsman house with dark wood? Buy one. Want a house with painted wood? Buy this one. Sophie’s betting that there are more buyers who want the house the way she redid it.
I don’t understand the obsession with painting those wooden trims white. The natural wood varnish gives the house more character & history. Changing to a lighter colored furniture is more than enough solution to brighten the space.

Why does "a million dollars" equal "need lots of bedrooms"? Millionaires don't necessarily have more children. I don't think they have their inlaws living with them either. I thought people with lots of money might want a nice office, a hobby room, space for whatever they collect?
There is a clip of the dinning room where there is shoe molding missing. 😱 I noticed the heaters were not covered upstairs, even in the baby's room. 'Hot' comes to mind if I had a little one now. 💌
Well today I am unsubscribing from the show. Painting this paneling in a house this gorgeous that is only been on the market for 3 weeks is a travesty. So I'm done I am never watching this again. Take out the Western motif change up some paint colors rearrange some furniture or replace it. That's all this place needs.
All the natural beauty gone. Its what would have sold the house. A crying shame. The house has been homogenized. I'm glad others agree. I still can't watch this show any longer
The house could have sold but not for what they wanted for it. It doesn't look like a 1mil house. I don't know what area this is but honestly looks like a 200K house here.
Sad to see the colourful rug moved out the living room the fire place tiles on floor did not go in the room and with the floors etc sad to see the change I would have left the bright carpets etc and added a few things
None of the labour is counted in with the renovations. Also they did the cheapest work possible, painting those doors and covering the fireplace... It’s still interesting to see what you can do with a small amount of money and lots and lots of hours of work.
Sandra Westley UK, I don’t understand the hideous trim in the first place, it’s just awful, it’s in nearly every house I see, we have nothing like dark trim or wood in our houses since 30 or 40 years ago. We don’t put it round our windows or doors or anything.
Yea, panicking when your house hasn't sold in 3 weeks seems a bit pre-emptive. I think they should have decluttered the south western stuff and fitted out the house in more modern decor. Maybe refresh the paint but I think styling it to a wider audience was more savy than painting otiginal wood features.
Im sorry i didnt like the blue- when wood is coloured white it pairs well with dark colours and also bounces of light- maybe it looks good in person but even a light dark blue wouldve looked loads better?
When I was looking at houses I was more concerned with Mechanicals knowing that I was going to put my touch on the inside. I'm sure it did sell quicker, because people have no imagination or appreciation for period details, but it would NOT have sold to me!
Sad to see all the beautiful wood trim painted over. It would have looked amazing with the other changes.
I noticed the heaters were not covered upstairs, even in the baby's room. 'Hot' comes to mind if I had a little one now. 💌
They are water filled radiators they don’t get very hot
Love Anthony's t shirt😍
Painting all that beautiful wood panels is crimimal! Painting the walls was enough and maybe the windows
Gorgeous!
I liked the brickwork around the fireplace, they destroyed it.
I totally agree. This house was absolutely fine and making some minor changes would have been enough.
Exactly!!! They could have rented this one out.
I don't understand why owners care so much about making the changes. They hopefully won't be living in the house very long anyways!
Sad to see the colourful rug moved out the living room the fire place tiles on floor did not go in the room and with the floors etc sad to see the change I would have left the bright carpets etc and added a few things
The kitchen needed work
The blue in that front room was questionable
God I hope they changed the doorbell too!
I blame the doorbell!
Love these shows!
I am most surprised at how little the costs of the contractor are, so cheap for that work! Not like the UK.
None of the labour is counted in with the renovations. Also they did the cheapest work possible, painting those doors and covering the fireplace... It’s still interesting to see what you can do with a small amount of money and lots and lots of hours of work.
For $1M the location better be amazing!
Sandra Westley UK, I don’t understand the hideous trim in the first place, it’s just awful, it’s in nearly every house I see, we have nothing like dark trim or wood in our houses since 30 or 40 years ago. We don’t put it round our windows or doors or anything.
It looks nice, but I hate to see all that beautiful wood covered up
What did they do with the bathrooms? It looks great, but bathrooms, are like kitchens, can really sell a house.
Geeee, poor planning at its finest! I love the after
The fireplace!!!!😖
Painting all that lovely, historic, beautiful oak should be illegal
This is ridiculous, there is nothing wrong with this house. I don't believe that people don't buy it.
Start with the sound house and make it your own who needs a decorator to tell you what to do? I watch these shows for ideas only, ideas that fit my personality.hate what they did with the fireplace.
Painting All that wood is a crime! God that is disgusting. I had to strip 30 years of paint off of beautiful wood trim in my house tons of work! Don't paint beautiful old wood!
