This was a very interesting server to learn about! It's always sad to hear when a new private server doesn't make it due to internal problems or not having enough support from the community. I still think all the concepts were really good. I also think there's always the possibility of certain assets coming to another server or project in the future someday, but I think the project was really good though.
The amount of work that could be done just by having everyone from these different servers working on Rewritten or even Clash, though I never bothered playing it, would just be incredible.
IMO, people shouldn’t even try to create their own TT servers. I feel like you’re wasting precious talent that could be spent either joining TTCC or TTR (pick which one based on whether you wanna work on more unique and innovative stuff vs more classic/traditional stuff). Chances are that your server will probably never even launch, and if it does, it will die quickly. The TT community is wayyy too small to have all the dev talent be split up into so many different servers.
True, Event Horizon is definitely going to have trouble getting players when people have either settled into Clash or Rewritten respectively. Tooniversal, ODS, and Fellowship are essentially dead but still online for some reason
Let people do whatever they want. I promise people have said that (and still do) about CC before people even gave it a chance And then we would’ve never had it if CC took this advice
I think having multiple servers doing projects encourages others to also innovate. like imagine if clash never came out, TTR would probably still not have finished field offices
I think the idea of an area where there's the unused cog body part factories is really neat! I'd love to see what gear grind would *maybe eventually* do with it!
Really some good concepts here! Though, a lot seems to be implemented in either Rewritten or Clash already. And the community already demands so much from those two, that it's pretty much a guarantee that any other up-and-coming sever would be consigned to oblivion. And it is a shame that so many of these passion projects receive that treatment. The best thing I could think of would be proposing some ideas to Clash. Cause if the community can push for Toon-O as hard as they did, then I suppose anything is possible. But, who knows?
Very interesting video. Watched the entire video without stopping it (which very rarely happens lol!) Every time I think I know everything about the "private server iceberg", I'm proven very wrong. Wow. Anyway, I think you died to overscoping here (trying to fit too many unrelated features into the same game). Definitely would recommend designing with better cohesion if you wanted to return the project (or work on some other game, as well) - like instead of doing "buildings, 32 cog redesigns, 16 new cogs, glove colors, weird battle mechanics, daily fish" pick a few categories you want to expand on and go all out. And yeah, having 4 ppl on the team is definitely an issue. In general though, it looks like a lot of those new projects have the same issues of "having a small team, but scope of an AAA project" (TTG died partially due to that, as well) 7:50 I don't think "releasing another Hires and Heroes update" would be bad. A lot of the time creators think "my thing is just worse than this one" mentioning something of a very high quality and you can make something slightly worse and still be it good enough a lot of the time, people play Hires and Heroes to this point still and chances are they would play your game as well, and doing nothing is worse than doing something here (at least in my opinion), although you definitely should answer the question of "why TTGG" while designing stuff P.s. really shows that you need to work on a project like this to see how hard toontown development is 😊😊😊😊 -Wizz
My advice is to sketech out what you want, first think of stuff of what gonna be the main taskline, than work on the cog buildings stuff and update task line that require to do the underground buildings, I think the new cogs should have been 1 update at time similar to coprate clash you need to drip feed due to being an online game but not for to long at least 1 cog update per year along with whatever you want to add
The with the buildings I can see if there were 2 cog types one type is up the elevator, while the other is down Perhaps before going to the final battle at the top or bottom you could back track and go thru the other path
I honestly dont see a problem with the private servers that want to preserve ToonTown updating their models. Those model updates look really good and I feel like that was something that should have been the main focus for the server. I would love to see those models in the other bigger TT servers. That was a pretty cool idea with the new cogs and everything.
I tried offering that, mostly a redesigned page to have all of the cogs featured and cleaning up that section of the page or even at the very least a second page containing them but it just never happened. I had like a rough sketch of how I’d want it to look but no official work was done on it.

Easier said than done. People use Toontown's Panda3D source code stuff because it's infinitely easier than rebuilding an entire MMO from scratch, which is notoriously difficult if all of the countless failed Kickstarter MMO projects are any indication (especially since all Toontown fangames are required to be nonprofit, asking people to rebuild the entire game in another engine is just way too big of an ask for people who aren't paid)
