    I had the same code for 2 months, the problem was a faulty crankshaft sensor !
    P0420 doesnt always mean you have a bad cat or a bad oxygen sensor.

      Dont just replace parts, you must first verify it. i knew it had to do with my crankshaftsensor, because the car would make little misfires under idle, and it had some extended cranks when engine was warm.

    Ive had the same issue for about a year on my ford focus ecoboost 2014 the check engine light comes on and off every couple of weeks, i have had it in to a mechanic, he cleared the codes, asked me a few questions like do i only drive it locally ect, is the car using alot more fuel than normal egg type smell coming from the exhaust, i said no, that had him stumped and he is a really good mechanic. When i first got the car the check engine light came on within about 10 mins after purchase, said it was a sensor and was fixed free of charge that was back in 2017, now i have just recently purchased cataclean, i put it in when i only had like maybe 16 miles of fuel left not sure what that is in gallons, but my fuel light was on so it was pretty close to empty, poured it in went about a 16 mile drive then filled up my car to quarter of a tank, drove to work the next day it might be a placebo but my car did feel like it a fresher responsiveness too it 🤔

    I am currently having the same code, have also used cataclean. The light has been going off, on for a few months now. I bought another one to see if it can permanently clean it with another application. Note that i recently changed my spark plugs, found one with some oil on it. I used Stp high mileage oil treatment + stop leak. I believe the oil is contaminating the cat through the valve cover gasket. We shall see. I will keep you updated brother whenever i finally do get the light to go away.

      Most likely your cat is/was shot

    Dustin do you know how to read? I watched this and literally the directions state the complete opposite of what you did. Secondly I think to complete a battery cycle a cold start is required. That is why after you left your vehicle sit for 8 hours then “cold started” it your check engine light came on. How do you expect this product to work when you literally put an 8 ounce bottle of the product in a massive tank of gasoline it was so diluted that it didn’t even probably sense it. You have to put it in probably an eighth of a tank because your gas tank in your Sequoia is twice as large as a regular car so I would suggest reading the directions.

    Instruction says when you have 1/4 tank of gas, add cataclean. Then drive 15 miles, and add fuel. Did you add cataclean too early?

      As mentioned in the video, I was leaving for a work trip and had filled up the day prior. I didn’t have time to wait to get to 1/4 tank. Turns out I had a bad rear o2 sensor that was causing the engine code

      I have a 2008, how did you figure out the downstream o2 was bad? Was it just a guess? Did a new o2 sensor fix the problem?

    • @DustinRogersinMO

      @@Theocdrepairman new o2 sensor fixed the problem. CEL has been off for several hundred miles now. I decided to replace the o2 sensor based on countless posts in various forums indicating that the catalytic converter rarely need to be replaced on the sequoias.

      Couldn't you see the sensor was bad using live data? Can the sensor be bad and show proper outputs

    Well it probably didn't really work that well because you didn't put it in when the tank was almost empty like you're supposed to do

      Follow-up vid posted a long time ago. It was a bad O2 sensor that no amount of additives would have fixed.

      Great. Mine was a faulty o2 sensor, so no matter how closely the directions were followed, it wouldn’t have fixed my o2 sensor

  • @timmusician5060

    You did it wrong. It was too diluted. You should have waited until you were just below 1/4 tank

    • @DustinRogersinMO
      @DustinRogersinMO  Рік тому

      Well, it was a bad o2 sensor anyway, so I could have ran it undiluted and it wouldn’t have fixed it.

      Downstream (after cat)

    • @derekgardin1512
      @derekgardin1512 3 місяці тому +1

      Sensor 2 is the one that checks the efficiency fmof the catalytic converter. One way to trick it is to buy a spacer (called a spark plug non fouler) find the thread type your O2 sensor has and buy one that matches. Remover after cat sensor, put on spacer, put sensor back on. This moves the sensor further out of the exhaust stream so it will read less. Often it's enough to keep the light off. I've even done this on a car that had an off road test pipe in place of the cat and it still kept the check engine light off.

      @@DustinRogersinMO I've got P0420 on my Honda Civic. Only done 50000 miles and 5 years old. The dealer says it needs a new cat but I'm doubtful because it doesn't seem old enough. £2300 for a new cat here in the UK. I'm shocked at that price. Maybe need to drive car that I can afford to maintain.... like a Ferrari

      @@paull544 the various brands of cleaning solutions are cheap enough to give it a try. Even if it doesn’t work, I’d rather lose $30 than spend $2300. I’ve seen other vids that had success with it, which is why I tried it. Unfortunately the root cause of my error was a faulty downstream oxygen sensor.

      Well it wasn’t a test. I was legitimately trying to get rid of the error. The issue ended up being a faulty rear 02 sensor. I replaced it and the code hasn’t come back.
