    I installed one in my DIY crawl, which has a lot of gravel/concrete on the floor. Makes it much easier on knees to get around and allowed me to use the crawl for storage.

    I have used concrobium mold control lots. But not in things like crawlspaces. Just on things inside the main living part of the house, where things are dry. I have had good success removing mold, and it has allowed me to safely scrub the mold off, without spreading spores and with some molds, mycotoxins, around.

    I installed it near the crawl door and on service pathways, and it works great.
    You need to assure however that water flows underneath it, rather getting on top of it and pooled under vapor barrier. I had to redo the VB overlap coming from our uphill foundation wall to go underneath the drainage mat instead of underneath the main floor VB.

      Absolutely. This is one reason why we like the landscaping fabric, but we understand both underlayment options have their positives and negatives depending on the situation. Thanks for watching!

    I'm kicking myself for spending a little more and having them do the underlayment. Had to have a load of plumbing work done less than a year after having my crawlspace encapsulated and they punctured my vapor barrier in about a dozen places. Fortunately my encapsulation came with a five year annual servicing benefit and they sealed the rips with tape, but still... if I could do it again, I'd get the mats.

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  Рік тому

      I am so sorry to hear that, the mats do a good job at protecting the plastic. Did the plumbers offer any reimbursement?

    • @poshko41
      @poshko41 Рік тому

      @@CrawlSpaceNinja No, but then again I didn't push the issue. Luckily we had our annual crawlspace inspection just a few months later and they patched the holes with sealing tape. :)

    Couple questions: what is the installation instructions for the drainage mat? Overlap? Landscaping pins? Tape? Or just lay it down and put the vapor barrier over it?

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  10 місяців тому

      Just lay down and put vapor barrier on but if it won't lay flat you can use landscape pins to help. Thanks for watching.

    With this dimple mat, if you lay it down then are crawling on top of it wont it push down into the clay and close those channels made for the water to channel through? I am leaning toward using it but do not want to push it into the clay when I go to lay down the vapor barrier.

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  4 місяці тому +1

      If the clay is that damp then you likely would want a waterproofing system installed under the dimple first but in our experience using the dimple with the Hydraway installed at the proper depth (about 9-inches) with sump pumps will get the surface water away so the clay can harden up enough so what you described doesn't happen. I hope that helps. Here is a link to Hydraway - diy.crawlspaceninja.com/hydraway-strip-drain/

    I got quoted for a drainage mat with no 12mil vapor barrier or vapor barrier of any kind. Is drainage mat alone good for anything? They said they would put it up the wall like they would with a vapor barrier.

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  5 місяців тому

      A Drainage matt typically has no vapor barrier qualities to act as a barrier to prevent moisture/humidity coming through

  • @gmoneycash7456
    @gmoneycash7456 10 місяців тому

    would you install the drainage mat, then the vapor barrier over top of it, under the dehumidifier or would you install it around the dehumidifier platform?

    I just had a drainage mat and the vapor barrier installed, now i have terrible odors in the house, very bad smell; do you know why this is occurring? I did not encapsulate, my crawl is dirt and is only 16 inches deep, I am concerned about the smell because it is horrible and it has been 6 days now, any ideas?

  • @poshko41

    I'm in the camp of people who DID NOT spend a little extra to get the underlayment. Can you put mats on top of the plastic to make it easier to move around in there and prevent damage? I don't store anything in my crawlspace, but I do have to access it from time to time to do wiring and such. What about some inexpensive interlocking tiles? Could those prevent less damage to the plastic while crawling around in there?

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  Рік тому

      Yes the mats can certainly help prevent damage if you were unable to do an underlayment.

    • @poshko41
      @poshko41 Рік тому

      @@CrawlSpaceNinja Is there any downside you can think of to having interlocking tiles on the vapor barrier? It wouldn't interfere with the effectiveness of the system in any way? Thank you so much for your videos - this is a fantastic channel!

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  Рік тому

      @@poshko41 Thank you, I appreciate you watching. The only downside could be moisture getting trapped if you get water on the vapor barrier also, sometimes they have a decent odor depending on what they are made of but I am not sure of any other downsides.

    Do you know if I can add a hardwood floor over a crawl space?

    • @CrawlSpaceNinja
      @CrawlSpaceNinja  2 роки тому

      Installing a hardwood floor directly over a crawlspace exposes the wood to moisture from the ground and from the air in the crawlspace. Even if you install a moisture barrier, this moisture can seep upward and warp the boards.
