RIGHT its so stupid that a poor woman spends the whole movie Fighting to have one of the most widespread jobs ever??? its like the woke culture that tells you to stay in the norms while convincing you it's revolutionary
Why can't she just marry him and then when they become rulers, have him make a rule that says she can open a dress store. Like, you're the King. You can do whatever the hell you want
Im assuming its not that simple, kings still had procedures and stuff they had to go through before making rules, and if the rules are unpopular with the public you could risk revolutions
No can do. The people would rise up against this horrible idea. A kings brother or someone like that would claim the king has gone mad and collect an army and overthrow the king and the king would be executed. All because his wife wanted a dress shop.
@@botanicalitus4194 But the king ended up putting his daughter on the throne, which was wildly unconventional, even more so when you consider that women couldn't own businesses, so I think in this universe it's not a completely hopeless notion
It's honestly exhausting that basically every Cinderella movie that's coming out is an "omg girlboss" remake. Like I'm as feminist as they come but I feel like these remakes miss the point of the original Cinderella, which is about an abused girl who breaks the cycle of abuse by staying kind and compassionate to those around her and is rewarded for it. Cinderella isn't weak or "not feminist" for not being a girlboss or whatever, she's a good person who chooses kindness and optimism even when it's hard. And her story was never about sitting around waiting for a man to rescue her; she literally went to the ball because she wanted a fun night out away from her abusive family and just so happened to meet the prince who fell in love with her. There's nothing inherently bad with these girlboss remakes but it feels kind of insulting when that's ALL that ever comes back, like the original Cinderella is something that needs to be "fixed."
I disagree. The original Cinderella reinforces the idea that women need to endure their abuse. They need to smile through the pain. Not speak up and wait for things to change. That message does need to be fixed. Women are taught to endure and sacrifice. Glorified for it even. Which is what Cinderella does. Men and society benefit from women enduring and sacrificing. The optimism in original Cinderella is misplaced. And I find it to be gaslighting as well. Oh, you are abused? You can feel bad about that. Why don't you try smiling and look for the silver lining. I personally love the girlboss version of Cinderalla even though it's a little in your face and not subtle because it's ultimately a very good message for girls. Build your future, dream and chase after your goals. Can't see anything wrong with this message!
@@ArathiNayak See, you are doing the exact thing OP was irritated over. Cinderella doesn't teach girls or women to tolerate abuse but not to let the abuse to destroy who you are. Not all girls or women can escape their abusive situation. Some are raised like Cinderella, abused in the own home with the only option to get away being homelessness (care isn't an option because that can be as equally bad or be sent back regardless). People like her sisters and step mother are spiteful, envious, and callous and that attitude could have easily made Cinderella as equally awful. But she chose to stay kind, to appreciate the things she had and to not let their nasty behaviour turn her into them. She may have needed help to physically get out of that situation (many abused people do, most of the time you can't just leave) but she mentally kept herself sound and happy in the face of adversity. And she was rewarded with freedom for it. That is something I would want to teach my daughter. To keep true to herself in the face of adversity and not let the cruelty of others make her cruel too. The thing about Girl Boss Cinderella is, not only is it often written by old men who don't have clue about women's struggles, but it has the unfortunate effect of telling young girls "if you're not ambitious or have high aspirations, then you're a failure of a woman." Not all girls are like this version of Cinderella. Not all girls want to be corporate giants or open a business. It pits women against each other if they don't conform to this ideal. Where to the quiet and demure girls fit here? What about the people who would genuinely enjoy being housewives or mothers? Why is that looked down? Hell, the whole girl boss thing is rooted in masculinity anyway. It's being a female version of the male standard. That's not progressive to me.
If this Cinderella really exist in a medieval era the story would be "Cinderella couldn't see through the crowd. Cinderella is too short. Cinderella climbed up the deceased King statue. Cinderella were caught by the royal guards. King punished Cinderella because she disrespect a late King. Cinderella got executed. The end."
I feel like the problem with this kind of feminist plot is that it says that stereotypical women’s roles like getting married and staying home are BAD, and only working/having a career is feminist. Both options need to be acknowledged as valid! The point is that the woman decides what she wants
"I wasn't gonna watch it because Brandy's Cinderella exists" EXACTLY KENNIE. BRANDY'S CINDERELLA GAVE ME WHITNEY AND BRANDY VOCALS, GAVE BLACK MOM WHITE DAD FILIPINO PRINCE. THAT IS DISNEY'S CINDERELLA EXCELLENCE.
Is it just me but camillas voice really doesn't fit musicals. It's not that she's a bad singer but it just sounded...off. Also enough with the same cinderella remake it's been done 100 times before and we didn't need another one. There are so many stories from different countries that had a different telling of cinderella that they couldve chosen. The storyline failed, the dialouge sucked, the costumes were a mess, casting was questionable and this was just another jukebox musical. It should've stayed as an idea and never made imo.
@Anne Day it wasn’t even that she didn’t adapt I don’t think she can 😅😅 her basic vocal technique doesn’t seem strong enough to adapt in the first place.
Yeah no, same. I'd be feeling the songs until she joins in and then no. I low-key felt like a hater for not enjoying her vocals but glad I'm not alone.
They absolutely should have casted someone who can sing well for CINDERELLA THE MUSICAL. I truly don’t get why the industry is trying to force her onto us…she’s, at best, mediocre, and very unappealing to watch as an actor, physical form, etc
The Prince character is so underdeveloped. He’s whiny in the beginning and childish, but at the end he decides to follow Ella like a lost puppy? Like what if he was really into shoe making?? That could have been a power couple moment

Fun fact: In one of the really old versions of Cinderella, Cinderella "losing her shoe" was actually the prince smearing tar on the steps at the third night of the ball to try to capture her and the reason why the prince uses her shoe to find her was because she was part fairy and she had abnormally small "fairy feet".
Also, her step-sisters cut their feet to fit into the glass slippers. As a child, I was very disappointed when Disney didn't add that fact to the movie. I also really wanted Ariel to die.
@@danicleckley5404 The Little Mermaid original story isn't dark or edgier that the Disney movie. It's literally just depression wrapped in fantasy. At least Greek tragedies had some engaging drama.
@@ScionStorm1 It literally is darker than the Disney version and it’s not edgy it’s more realistic. Not everyone you fall in love with will fall back in love with you.
There's a channel on youtube that does that. They've done the little mermaid and several others. Tales from the crypt or Crypt tales? Something like that. My brain handles horror in a way that means I can't get away with watching a lot of it, but the two I risked were really good.
“I don’t like her voice. Maybe it’s just a me thing.” I had to pause this video after you said that. It’s NOT just a you thing. It’s one of the main reasons CC is so polarizing.
Fun fact: In the Grimm fairy tale of Cinderella, the ball lasted for three days and the prince and Cinderella met for three days, but on the third day, when she tried to escape, the prince put tar on the stairs so that she wouldn't leave, but she managed to get out of the trap, but is forced to leave her shoe(which was golden) on the stairwell. Disney did the same thing, expect they omitted the tar trap. So in a way Kendall is right. It doesn't make sense, in the Disney movie at least.
What I hated about this movie is the inconsistency of time. Sometimes it's really medieval, she can't have her business cause she's a woman, the princesses opinion is not heard cause she's a woman, Camila has to get married to a man she doesn't love because of financial reasons. But sometimes it's really modern-like, they don't put labels on their relationship, he wears a fuckin piercing, the princess thinks about ecology. Like, are we doing a modern spin-off or historically accurate film?
They where trying to blend modern aspects and traditional fairytale aspects together on purpose, other versions of "Cinderella" have done that before , however in their case it felt flat, because everything is just all over the place.
@@sweetbunnybun People forget just how much power women could have back in the day. Some of the most powerful people in the French Court, for instance, were the King's mistresses, especially during Louix XIV's reign.
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one LIVING for the Indian(?) woman and the darkskin woman in green. And Queen Tatiana sealed the deal. I did not care for any of the main characters. I was living through backgrounds this whole movie.
I like how Ella replies to Queen Tatiana that she made the dress. Girl, fairy magic made your dress. You just drew the sketch. Also would be better if instead of just giving her a dress and all other stuff, Godmother enchanted her sewing tools so Ella would go and make herself a new dress for the ball in like a split second. She is a talented dress maker, after all. If you wanna change the story this way, go all the way. She also should have left with Tatiana to earn her living independently. Cause by the end of the movie it was unclear if she was into making dresses at all. She just married a rich guy and they decided to travell the world. A better ending would be if Ella left with Tatiana, became prominent, famous for her designs and later in her home-country(and all over the world) her shops would appear. Another better idea is for her to go to the ball dressed in a dress just like they made for Godmother: both a suit and a dress combined, so she would show the court that women also can wear pants if they want and women can have buisnesses. And Queen Tatiana would be like: oh, I like that, I want my wardrobe like that. The movie could have been so much better. If they wanted a new(feminist or whatnot) take on Cinderella, they failed miserably. They gave her a dream of her own, and then she completely forgot about it and chose the prince anyway. They wanted to show that hard work and dedication pay off, but her best dress was made by a fairy and Ella even lied that it was made by her. She showed her work to Tatiana and never followed up with leaving with her. They didn't even show how Ella rejected Tatiana's offer. Just junk, honestly. Camilla's singing was like scratching a plate with a knife. P.S. was I the only one who noticed how prince's friend was looking at him all the time? I legit thought he was into prince and the prince was into him too or something; and that's why the prince didn't want to marry a woman(and in the end his father wouldn't understand his preferences). Cause like even by the end of the movie another friend of princes started crying(true love, bla-bla), and this firts friend looked at him with such a painful expression and then went: then we shall find her(as if he was ready to do his best and find the girl just because his love interest-prince was in love with her, to make prince happy.). Did they cut some stuff out? Did they intent to make prince gay, but then the big heads were like nono,we won't be able to sell it to russia and china this way. Such a dumpsterfire.
in the original fairytale, the shoe was enchanted to specifically only fit HER, like magic would keep it from fitting anyone else. it wasn't just a size 8 or anything like that, it was enchanted. my english teacher in high school mentioned that an old english word that eventually morphed into 'glass' meant 'magic' instead of the material, though i'm not sure if that's true.

@@kosiqueensly4506 I think the idea is that making one of the few black guys gay and emasculated feels like a Hollywood thing to do. Honestly, me saying that is incorrect. There are a lot of masculine dark skin black men in Hollywood, I just think they are in action movies about violence. I just think the black gay best friend is like the black best friend, where they don't really matter to the plot. And not even embroidered tulle like the strawberry dress!!
I thought the message that girls can be ambitious and go beyond society’s limits could have been nice here if it wasn’t so completely in your face the whole time with not very much subtlety, and if the prince didn’t have to give up being the king to go with her - like what is he gonna do following her around the world for however long?? It felt kinda unfair that she was able to prioritise herself (as she should) but he wasn’t given the same luxury and had to change his entire life plan to accommodate her existence, like he also had a life before her, she doesn’t have to encompass all of it

The originals verisons of the stories were gritty and dark tho...in the original cinderella the step sisters got part of their feet chopped off and the stepmother was fitted with a pair of burning shoes that she danced around in until she died...fairy tales are dark already.
Girl boss feminism, because they adopt and commercialize woke for below mediocre crap that was cobbled together to make a buck. Then they try to weaponize feminism and slap that label on their film to make people watch it either because out of rage or because the other dumbos "want to stick it to the patriarchy." in the original fairytale, there were multiple nights of partying, so the prince had several nights to get to know Cinderella, and on the last night he puts pitch on the stairs to try and catch her when she inevitably flees at midnight
17:00 In the original fairy tale, the ball lasted 3 nights and Cinderella danced with the prince each night without telling him her name, then leaving at midnight. So on the 3rd night, the pince had tar put on the stairs of the palace, that is how her shoe got stuck. :)

Yes, this!
EXACTLY!!!
@@ArathiNayak Yes and we had enough Cinderella adaptations, remakes whatever like tell another story

They absolutely should have casted someone who can sing well for CINDERELLA THE MUSICAL. I truly don’t get why the industry is trying to force her onto us…she’s, at best, mediocre, and very unappealing to watch as an actor, physical form, etc

Why is EVERY other dress in this movie way, WAY nicer than the dress(es) Cinderella can make?
she was so bland while her step family outdid the entire met gala also the girls who did whatta man- they knew how to dress
Even the step sisters had lovely vibrant dresses. I specifically remember the strawberry dresses. Very cute and in with that time period
How does Cinderella even afford the materials for the dresses she makes?
Her coral dress was ugly and the two colors didn't even match. It looked like a middle school dance dress

But sometimes it's really modern-like, they don't put labels on their relationship, he wears a fuckin piercing, the princess thinks about ecology. Like, are we doing a modern spin-off or historically accurate film?
its a kids movie, so its not supposed to be historically accurate. its just supposed to be a quirky retelling of cinderella

@@metalmoth6608 Do PEOPLE not realize attractiveness/beauty is based on opinion/perspective and not fact?
Didn't the prince say he didn't want to be king? I haven't watched it but if he was also escaping from his prescribed role it's not a sacrifice
@@imsmolandangery4274 It wasn’t sincerely done. The whole point of it is Enlightened Woman Strong Need Power, Enlightened Man Not Need Power. There was literally no point in having him give it up. (Also- if you need a suggestion for another bad movie to watch- Willy’s Wonderland staring Nicholas Cage is so awful but so funny, he literally does not have a single line but is the main character)
It’s basically Five Nights at Freddie’s
@@frankieffbaby it really is but it’s so so so bad that I refuse to believe/associate the two
Something that bothers me is that Cinderella ballroom dress is so boring and she doesn't stand out at all. They don't change her hairstyle nor makeup at all. It looks like a dress-fitting.
the fact that the most memorable thing about this movie is the promotional flash mob where james corben pelvic thrusted at people in a rat suit is either the most hilarious or the most depressing thing involving this whole piece of cinema
The British won when they released him on us 😔
LET'S GET LOUD
LMAO this movie really is just "Gaslight, Gate keep, Girlboss"
"I don't care about another rendition of Cinderella because you know.... Brandy Cinderella happened, I can die happy now." My exact thoughts everytime I hear about another version of Cinderella. Brandy and Whitney did what needed to be done, y'all can stop trying.
I’m honestly a lot more interested in the movie that gave us two people of color as the love interest then one where it wants to so badly be a badass girl boss movie
🤣 when I saw the add for this movie I rolled my eyes and said it ain’t going to be better than Brandy and Whitney Cinderella
which is worse- remakes that are all girl boss femminism or remakes that are gritty and dark for no reason
gritty and dark. fake girlboss feminism is annoying as shit but at least they're not edgy, pessimistic and depressing like gritty and dark remakes
also girl boss movies like this at least are kinda funny
The originals verisons of the stories were gritty and dark tho...in the original cinderella the step sisters got part of their feet chopped off and the stepmother was fitted with a pair of burning shoes that she danced around in until she died...fairy tales are dark already.
Girl boss feminism, because they adopt and commercialize woke for below mediocre crap that was cobbled together to make a buck. Then they try to weaponize feminism and slap that label on their film to make people watch it either because out of rage or because the other dumbos "want to stick it to the patriarchy."
That's not feminism. Fuck them. Now those anits have more ammunition to rant about. Ever After was feminism without needing to tell anyone and was genuinely fun. This thing can bugger off into the next garbage bin.
Re: the shoe falling off, I believe originally (or at least in some versions of the story), the prince puts tar on the steps specifically to stop her from leaving before midnight, and she gets stuck and leaves her shoe behind so that she can get out of there.
The legacy of the girlboss had me check out the second they started the cover for Am I Wrong, yes you are wrong pack it up boss babe leave us be. 😩
😂 yes you are wrong go somewhere else to repent HUN
camila's singing had me cringing throughout the entire movie, and james corden has viscerally scarred me for life.

“The group Normani escaped from”
“Stop singing over Idina!”
Mispronunciation of Camila chupacabras last name…
SHEER COMEDY GOLD 🎭 😂✌🏼
what pissed me off most is how they switched between present words (like how people talk now??) and... I don't even want to call it historical talk because it felt like a wattpad writer who tried to write a book in "Victorian Language" or what they felt like would "fit"
😭😭😭
The only good thing about 2021's Cinderella is that it reminded me that 2004's Ella Enchanted was 1. Better and 2. A camp classic 🤣
Yes enchanted is even more adorable
Somebody to Love was so good in Ella Enchanted!
They also didn't ruined Somebody to Love for a terrible musical number, Anne Hathaway really snapped with that one
@@CursedCatTruffa yeah she did!
Truth
For a movie that tries so hard for that girlboss rep, they really gave her no agency in this mess. Like, she's a designer and she didn't even make the dress she went to the ball in? What?
(Yes, I know it came from one of her drawings, but execution is half the battle.)
My Godmother starred as Queen Tatiana and tbh for her first onscreen role I was so so proud of her!! The rest of the movie I zoned out of tbh cause growing up and having kids I’ve seen the many versions of cinderella so many times due to my little girl
Well please tell her (as I'm sure she knows) that she came, ate, and left no crumbs.👏👏👏
@@alistairmooncrest5018 gladly!! I can’t wait to see her in the London West End production of The Drifters.
@@lexmc8419 Glad to hear her career is taking off!!🚀
@@alistairmooncrest5018 her music career had always been top notch (UK Queen of soul) for the past 20+ years, moving to the stage as well as staying with the mic has just pushed her further 👏🏾👏🏾
@@lexmc8419 Ahhh, I see. Well, will definitely check out some of her work. Don't want to confine her to a box in my brain; clearly she sounds and, based on what I saw, seems like a hard worker taking her many roles VERY seriously. "Queen of Soul?" Not an easy title to obtain.👏
One of the very few things that brought a smile to my face while watching this video is realizing that the queen in this movie also played Ella‘s aunt from Ella Enchanted
“Camilla Kuwabara” SENT me because YYH Of all things omg
Kenny: *gives shout out to Indian princess*
Me: *takes it personally and glows with pride*
She was one of the most beautiful. Along with the dark skinned girl. 🙂
She was gorgeous and so are you :)
@ Jay B: Yes---Asian pride y'all. I wish they had a Chinese princess there too though.
@@Official_Meshay She was one of my favorites.
The fact that she is wearing wedding dress... who knows if the prince changes the mind and would go after the Indian one 🤡
I wanna know WHO thought it was a good idea to cast Camilla alongside Broadway legends Idina Menzel and Billy Porter. They truly set her up for failure and didn’t bother to use auto tune or any kind of audio programs to fix her voice. It sounds so bad.😬
Ummm honey they used a lot of auto tune for Cameltoe. She is just a bad singer compared to these Broadway legends. It feels like the sound producer guy gave up on her
@@ΕλένηΑνδρονικάκη Cameltoe 💀💀💀
I feel like they wanted Lea Michele and got the wrong singer
My thoughts: He wants to use her for her looks and she can use him for his money.
Kennie a second later: Why not do both?
I know, if she was queen people would know who she is.
This is the oldest arrangement known to man. Why are they acting like this wasn’t the way of things? It still is the way of things.
I love how she exposed her PR XD
Oh kennie… you not liking her voice is not just a “you” thing lmao
I guess my name is Kennie too.
Well , guess my name is Kennie too
glad to see happy feet still stands on top as the best cover musical ever
The fact that Amazon reached out to you let's me know they knew what sht they bought but they knew it was going to be popular
I’m in law school. I haven’t had a good nights sleep in 3 weeks. If a rich man comes into my life and pays my bills I’m marrying him. I don’t care lol.
Exactly... like what kind of crap is this?!!
“She was in that one group Normani escaped from” 😭😭😭
It's sad that Cinderella's dress at the ball is actually my least favorite gown there.
17:12 in the original story she goes to the first ball, meets the prince and he falls in love and then there is a second ball where the prince puts tar on the stairs to keep her from leaving at midnight and her shoe gets stuck there which makes more sense then it slipping off
Tag yourself, I’m Kennie being absolutely and thoroughly PISSED at Camel Cabbage singing over Idina Menzel
I’m Kennie talking about Canilla Wafers stiff-jawed runs
I'm the dark-skinned woman on the right's dress.
I'm kennie fawning over the dark skin and the Indian girl's dresses and the queens

having you recreate how camilla sings, took me OUT .OMG that shit had me ded.
"Marry a rich man who will buy you a dress shop" no no no cause we gotta have the whole message of "you have to get things for yourself" even though the Fairy Godmother conjured that dress that got her a queen's attention
Okay. As a longtime fan of Idina Menzel, since my humble age of 10, first discovering Wicked...
T.T Thank you for your love and commentary about Camilla Cablahblah not needing to sing with her, because Idina is a true treasure. XD
Will any of these Cinderella's be brave enough to show us the actual Cinderella story when they were slicing meat off their feet trying to fit it into a glass slipper. Don't read the original fairy tales after you see them being Disneyfied because you will be scarred for life.
Yes this is the version we truly need
Jennyfer Donnely's Stepsister didi it. So if one day it is put on screen, so there we are.
Referring to the brothers Grimm version? I have watched nearly all the cinderella remakes there are to see. There is actually a Cinderella movie that sticks relatively close to the Brothers Grimm version. Story line is near exact except there being one step sister and the end less horrific on the side of eyes being gouged out. If you're specifically looking for the slice of feet moment then the german version of cinderella (2010) has that scene. Actually i think most of the german versions has the scenes lol
I used to amuse myself by telling the unaware how the original Little Mermaid ended. I was a mean person in the ‘90s.
One of my biggest issues with the movie is they put that foine ass man in as the farm boy, who I recognised to be one of the dancers in the magic mike live london shows, only for him to do a backflip where a backflip was not needed and then never to be seen again
Listen, he got his check and bounced

Camila’s singing voice triggers a guttural response in my body. It makes me want to choose violence. Every time. I cannot stand it. I physically could not watch this movie even if I wanted to.
I only heard part of one song from the musical, but it sounded heavily auto-tuned and I was NOT into it. 😬
Maximum jaw movement intensifies. I don't get why they casted her in a musical. Her voice is so unsuitable for that job. Maybe it's because she has a fanbase attached to her name.
But yeah... ugh... I don't like her voice at all and I literally heard her name for the first time. And only because I heard that there was a shitty new Cinderella remake available.
in the original fairytale, there were multiple nights of partying, so the prince had several nights to get to know Cinderella, and on the last night he puts pitch on the stairs to try and catch her when she inevitably flees at midnight
“Like if Cinderella joined an MLM” Not me audibly cackling in my kitchen 😂😂😂
They need to give it up. Nothing will ever top Roger’s and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, that prince was half y’all’s romantic awakenings😩
Seriously, I was in love with that prince for so long
not you calling me out like that 😩🤚🏾 that prince was CHARMING i’ll tell you that
Fun fact: Here in Brazil we call her Camila Hair because "cabelo" means hair alreadyd
Kennie needs to pin this comment😭😂😂
17:00 In the original fairy tale, the ball lasted 3 nights and Cinderella danced with the prince each night without telling him her name, then leaving at midnight. So on the 3rd night, the pince had tar put on the stairs of the palace, that is how her shoe got stuck. :)
It's actually weird most adaptations don't include that they actually had three days to get to know each other instead of one night. It's still pretty quick for a relationship leading to marriage, but people make it even shorter for some reason.
Watching Kennie and Dylan's video about this awful movie back to back brings me so much joy! 💖
Proud to be a home skillet biscuit and a troublemaker
Kennie: it's a kid's movie, so is it fair to expect it to be at the same quality to be enjoyed by adults?
Pixar: am I a joke to you?
