Look at the paper cups. You can see oil absorbed into the paper taking away part of the oils. The koi is adorable.

Well I think it is because she mixed the smaller ones by hand after adding the colors. The bigger ones she used a blender

    • @nekograce7914

Also maybe bc the larger ones were covered by plastic wrap and not an actual lid? Idk

The entire little thing of Katie talking to herself/us about how it was ok that she didn't do a perfect job and with her acknowledging her strengths and weaknesses in a healthy or positive way made my night. I just finished a really hard lab report that I had been crying about the night before and now here she is, being so okay with failure and so ok with acknowledging the fact that she could and would grow as a soap maker and it feels like shes talking to me. It feels like she's telling me that I can mess up and still be fine. It just made me really happy.

Hey, your lab report will never be perfect, and that's ok. Take it from a fellow scientist - there will always be flaws. We do the best that we can with the tools that we can, and you emotionally murdering yourself over it does nothing good for you or your science.

OMG! Thank you so much 🙈 I really appreciate all your kind words! I have noticed that the color does indeed affect the texture of the soap; reds/oranges cause a more soft, pliable result. Side note: If it's crumbly when you start to knead it it should be fine. Continue mashing it as much as you can, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and give it a few more hours to over night - it will soften up or at least it does for me 😄 I absolutely LOVE the soap you made!! Gorgeous!

Yes, the paper cup storage was a big issue, and I’m sure all colorants could behave differently, but I’m surprised no one mentioned that she also used popsicle sticks to mix the smaller ones and the stick blender for the big ones. That could have accelerated trace and contributed to it as well...

If something doesn't work then way one feels it should, take a step back, think about what you did then think about ways to improve and make it better! O...M...G... It's like you designed this soap just for me! I LOVE Koi fish. We used to have a koi pond in our backyard, I miss that house! I don't think I could make such a pretty soap if you gave me a week! Just lovely!
